Hi Sharon - do you ever havee the fabric pulling away from the zig zag invisibile thread stitching on the top side? I did a Patchwork Barn quilt and Edyta Sitar uses the same method to applique her shapes down. So I tried it. This quilt has been washed a few times now as my dog had dental work, lost 9 teeth that time. Had not oozed any blood until the middle of the night on my quilt. I discovered this dark brown stain a few days later and finally ammonia soak took it out. Now I'm seeing the fabric is pulling away and I will need to just do a straight stitch around all the appliques I think next. I could send pics if I email you from your website. thanks.
Hello Sylvia thank you for your comment. I do not know much about how Edyta Sitar does her applique but from what I have seen she uses raw edge and fusible techniques. Her zig-zag stitch is very large compared to mine and maybe this is why you have had problems. The method I use is completely different. It is turned edge applique and when it is finished it looks like hand-done needle turn applique. I use a very fine zig-zag stitch and the fabric has never pulled away as the edge is turned under before stitching and the stitching is very secure. You can look at more of my video tutorials to see how I turn my edges before stitching the applique in place. @@SharonKeightleyQuilts Yes thank you, it does help. And yes Edyta uses precut prefused raw edge applique - rarely a chance to turn any applique. NOW I can envision the method I used makes more sense why it was pulling away. Yours is turned under - DUH!! That makes total sense as well~ i will look at a few other videos of yours. I've seen Edyta's applqiue done in a very fine zig zag, but haven't seen it after washing or whatever!
