This has always been one of my favorite songs of theirs... I was obSESSed with this band in the 2nd half of the 80s and - thank god - I actually managed to see them in concert around 1989, even though I didn't have a lot of money back then. But they were amazing, as good as you would want a band to be when seeing them live in concert.
Fell in love with INXS in 1982 with their release of the iconic album Shabooh Shoobah - two tracks you really need to react to are Don’t Change, and The One Thing. Those are the first two hits of theirs; they put out two albums - the phenomenal The Swing (my fave album of theirs) and Listen Like Thieves - before they released Kick, which launched them into the stratosphere. About the production quality of this song, that’s the magic of Nile Rogers. Oh, and lastly, it’s pronounced inexCESS (emphasis on third syllable rather than the second.
INXS was literally one of the top 3 bands in the world in the late 80s/early 90s. They had hit song after hit song, non-stop. Their videos were on MTV 24/7 & they were an exceptional live band, as shown in their Wembley Stadium show that was filmed for a long form live DVD (VHS at the time, lol). Their music was primarily upbeat and faster, Never Tear Us Apart was a huge hit but one of their only real slow songs. You'd love New Sensation, it's so energetic, just magical and incredible.
Kick is one of their best albums but I fell in love when I first saw the “Don’t Change” video in the early 80s. Me and my friend use to wear out “The Swing” album in her car the summer before jr year. My favorite band! Michael was incredibly talented. Gone too soon!
I was able to see them in concert in the 90s and got to give Michael a "low 5" as he ran into the audience. Then a month or 2 later he was dead. My friends and I cried.
Can you imagine if Michael was still alive??? He left us too soon (at the age of 37)... one of the biggest losses in Music ...... He was a poet and the Soul of INXS ... almost all the lyrics were written by him, some in 15/20 minutes ... he just listened the music Andrew was working and bang ... a masterpiece came out . Andrew Farris (the one at the piano) said that Mistify has brilliant lyrics, beautiful words that became immortal in this song. Rest in Peace POET MICHAEL 🙏🖤 Thank you so much for this reaction. Greetings from Portugal 🤗😊
INXS is a live band. INXS always keeps you wanting more, and it always makes you feel good!!! You have 10 studio albums, soundtracks, tons of live performances, the MAX Q project and The Loved One, Michaels independent projects. There is an endless supply of timeless music! Please go nuts!
1 record label, Atlantic, 17 yrs and 27 videos. What a catalog! Try "TIME", hard rocking early 90s, "Taste it" funky sexy (banned from MTV) and "These are the Times/Strangest Party" wild futuristic from mid 90s
LOVE INXS! Have all of their records! SO GOOD! Best 80’s artist hands down! Even strong through the 2000’s. Yes, most of their songs have a solid drum beat and groove. Very tight, groovy sound. That’s the main part of why I love them so much. Excellent vocalist too!
The entire band was brilliant. Michael, despite their success, was never satisfied. He had the talent and charisma of Bono, Hendrix, or even Elvis. He left this world way too soon.
They are all such good musicians , then you add Micharel as the front man with his charisma . They are one of the best ever funk, pop, rock bands ever. There are so many great songs they have . Suicide blond at Wembley, The gift , Burn for you , Original sin , I could go on .
I remember buying their “Kick” album on cassette in 1987, I was just mesmerized. Top songs, top album. Still love it thirty six years later! “Mistily” is one of my faves for sure.
KICK is a solid album through and through. CALLING ALL NATIONS is the tune that I think 'kick's the most on that one. Please add your comments about various songs from this album. All pretty decent in my humble opinion.
Sounds like you're saying IN EXes. It's IN EXCESS. To see that Michael Hutchence charisma...watch "Suicide Blonde" live at Wembley Stadium in 1991. So good.
Great song 🎵. Michael was so very talented. So sad that he died so young. I enjoyed watching ROCK STAR INXS on TV in 2005 where JD. FORTUNE won the contest to become their new singer.
What's great about the video that goes with this song is the start really does lay the foundation for what is a ripper song. Thanks for the great reaction & analysis.
My fave INXS song. I've always loved this video for the start in rehearsal and then the smooth switch to the recording version. So glad to see they're being (re)discovered / appreciated again so many years later byt the younger generations.
Fantastic song and band, love how it starts as a workshop. Shoutout to Parkway Drive, great Aussie band! Fairy obscure for a USA guy 🙏👍😝 Lol no hired guns, all SIX of them brilliant 🤣
Dear Anton welcome to the great journey of INXS I remember seeing them when they first started at a concert in Brisbane with about 20 other screaming girls. Have some great photos of Michael front row. Very sexy man.
Thank you, I am watching now the Wembley Stadium, best live ever, there is a playlist, the song who put me up is New Sensation, I cannot pic on as fave, I can say I listen more What you need, Original Sin and Beautiful girl, he was very sensual and the song I Need you Tonight is perfect, live better, but again, great taste, You should see The Cult, they have so many great songs also.
A good song to use for walking is The Stairs by INXS. As you said, I think it has a great tone. INXS is not just a ballad band . Their songs are very diverse, they have rock, funk, and new wave.
Great react and analysis. Go with something from their early days like "Don't Change" or "The One Thing". See their baby faces. None of them are hired guns I 🎧 N 💓 X 🎶 S
