The Moon Runners present: IN YOUR AREA FEST (formerly known as Area 51 Popping & All Styles Jam) Winner: MT POP Judges: Hya Dj: Ridley Host: Daniel Keith Morrison (DKM) Media: Kesteez Media Venue: Revival, Toronto, ON
we were originally all sitting at the front in the earlier battles, but then someone (I think the cameraman) kept telling everyone to stand up, even though that was blocking the people behind us lol I'm guessing he thought it would be a better shot with the crowd reaction in frame, but still... takes away from the dancers and the audience at the back.
Both did amazing as always. Kidd definitely held his own and was in his bag, but MT's level of control and ease + foundation was very freeing (using his entire body). He had strong balance within embracing his space and was steppjng outside of the box more.
Damn Kidd took it to him at first. But MT Pop won those last two and edged it. The two issues here were the camera angle and also the size of the dance area. Give these guys room to work lmao. Imagine how sick this battle would have been if they had an actual large area to dance instead of having to sit in the pocket more. Would have liked to see what Kidd would have done with more space because his strength seems to be his footwork.
Hya definitely made the right call in it being a tie first, then MT Pop winning the tiebreaker. MT Pop style changed doesn't really strutt as much now.
This footage does no justice for KIDDs footwork and ground moves. The level of difficulty on his movement is a few notches highlighter than MTs. MT just really simplifies and executes clean. His last round was his best. Much respect to both but I have Kidd here winning pulling off the upset. No disrespect to the judge..he knows his stuff and chose how he chose. Peace.
Both were great. Congrats Mt Pop. I like more footwork, level changes, shoot downs, shoot outs, ground moves. Alsoo Kidds eye contact was good (This is a battle). Everyone has a different explanation what musicality is. When you dance 80/90% upper body and 10/20% footwork musicality is easy. When you dance with your legs everything is difficult. (Movement, Balance, Musicality) And so on. When you dance like that, you need more physical and mentall resurs. When you dance your upper body, yes, its alsoo difficult, but you dont need big physical resurs, or risky. Its a just muscle memory movements. I Like both style. But I know which is more difficult. First round: Kidd Second Rounds: Kid Third rounds: Kid Fourth rounds: Mt Pop Third round was very close. Alsoo battle tactics. Kidd was more battling then Mt pop. My English is not good, I can better explain. Respect Monsta Pop. He is a very dope dancer and judge. I really like his style. Alsoo I know real life is different. Hype and energy is different in real life and on youtube. That was very dope and close battle. But I would say 55%-45% Kidd won.
Agree on the round result. First is mt clothes choice lol, making his movement harder to notice. Also, MT Pop needs to incorporate more footwork in his dance. Once he masters it, he will be really versatile and hard to defeat (he started from animation --> strutting --> concepts --> really wide dance vocabulary).
First, the camera angle/work was TRASH and took away from the battle (especially Kidd's rounds). I hope that they put out another video with a better angle. This battle was CRAZY tough to judge IMO because of the different styles. I personally feel like the poppers who push the limit(s) of popping out of the traditional boogaloo style and into experimental turf get lowkey punished in competitions. Guys like Slim Boogie and Kidd don't strictly adhere to that old school style and I don't think that the popping world is ready for that yet. I feel like MT Pop is probably the HARDEST popper to go against because his style is so clean, technical, and creative. He has no weaknesses outside of doing very little groundwork (depending on the battle, because I've seen him do some before). Kidd is amazing, and he took more risk with his rounds and showed more versatility IMO. It could have gone either way, it's tough to vote against MT Pop in a popping battle because he ALWAYS comes correct. I had Kidd winning this personally though.
I thought Kidd took this one. Kidd had more intensity when he hit, he had more energy, footwork/level changes were tight, and he outdanced MT Pop in my opinion.
Greenteck and mtpop I'm in control here and you are gonna give me what I want. You know what it is. Give me what I want. You know what I want. I've been asking for it for years! You are gonna give it to me. Give me what I want or I'm gonna continue to hurt the comment section. Give me what I want!!!!! Give me what I want!!! GIVE ME WHAT I WANT!!!!
Bro is on EVERY MT Pop talking about Greenteck and EVERY Greenteck video talking about MT Pop😂 Green has stepped away from battles sadly. Probably won't come back to it for a few years until something in the space changes. And I'm glad ngl, he seems happier just teaching.
Kidd - harder pops, was popping more, better footwork MT pop - better foundation, better musicality, more groove, more technical details and difficult moves I can see why people think both dancers won, just preference here mostly. But this stage is also really small which is a shame I think kidd could've done better with bigger stage because he's a dancer that likes to cover a lot of space and he's also quite tall so these small stages aren't the easiest to battle on he hit that dangling curtain thing a few times it was just in the way
Good take for sure, but I’d definitely disagree with giving MT Pop “more grooves and difficult moves.” I think Kidd grooved a lot during his rounds and displayed a lot of real funk, along with that MT Pops creativity is great but I could see a bunch of poppers being able to emulate his moves if they wanted to. High creativity but low risk. I only know of a handful of people that would be able to try to attempt certain moves that Kidd pulls off. High creativity and high risk. But good take none the less, just sharing my two scents. 😄🙏
@@FaithOrFearHD Kidds style is a more aggressive battle style, mt pop is having more fun the dance part of it is different. It's just a stylistic thing though, but usually dance should be fun and a battle if it were a call out then kidd would probably win because it's a battle but in this format the dance is more of a fun thing so Mt pop wins here
@@KiddTheMonster there's battles and then there's battles, not all battles are the same. Like a call out battle is way different then these types of events. This is more of a sport rather than the type of battle you're thinking of. You're basically dancing for a crowd and judges here, you're not battling to settle beef. And got to remember it's a dance and what is dancing? it's about having fun and dancing. Call out battle i'd say exist on different terms where you can be more aggressive with it and in their face, don't have to worry about winning over judges or the crowd just settle the beef and no rules. I think here you have to play to the strengths of the format and the energy should be something more that the crowd and judges are gonna vibe with more. Also the location and type of crowd matters too, if you were dancing for gangsters in the hood they would like your style more but here the crowd is different you should put the cards in your favour and figure out what's gonna get the best reactions from the crowd.
@@GrowingDownUndernah, I’m not changing how I’m approaching a BATTLE. Regardless of the “type” of battle. That makes no sense. Ima approach the same way every time. So miss me with that. The real ones know what’s up, and that’s all that matters.
