These guys are the best of the best !. To lead that race, stop and correct the visor and still come 4th tells it all. What was learned from his Uncles and Father shines bright ! The coming week is going to be special !
Dean Harrison already has the answer for this Problem, Just Change Helmets!!! We have so many issues with qwik change Visors , eliminate them!!! Plenty of time during a Fuel Stop, dry gloves too 😊😊😊
totally agree, you could see harrison doing it in the pit too, no point fiddling with visors, fresh helmet with no sweat is better also, just devastating for MD
@@static3032b2t 👍 I agree!!! I believe MD will take this in stride and move on. Those people on his team are family to him, he will forgive, but hopefully eliminate the visor change!!!
@@jamesmcdonald6047 he will of course but you can see his frustration, his arms were shaking like mad, watching bikes go by as he shook his head, bloody awful feeling. Anyway, Looking forward to the next races! 🔥🔥🔥
As a former owner of Arai helmets, their visor systems are THE WORST. I've had this sort of tantrum in the kitchen trying to swap shields.. multiply that by eleventy billion when it costs you the IoM TT. 😂😫😫😫
The visor system on mine never worked properly it eventually broke and was flapping about loose. The bloke in the shop ,Bridge in Exeter, said it was a well known nightmare and kept a stock of replacement bits and fixed it with the new better system for a donation to the coffee break fund. It's now better than new.
That is an absolute PR disaster for Arai helmets as they are celebrating their 40 years anniversary on the IoM, no matter whether it was a mishandling issue or just a technical issue.
@@M2fiftycal Do you work at Arai marketing? 😉 No matter what happened, but it is an Arai helmet and it caused MD6 to finish 4th although he was flying around the mountain course.
So cruel, MD had a commanding lead….please don’t blame his pit crew guys, I’m sure MD won’t …it’s racing, and things can happen, albeit rarely. Surely MD is favourite for the Senior TT, let’s be supportive, and move on to later in the week .
I would normally agree except this time the visor guy had messed up once and had to fix it, then messed up the same side again, he should have took a moment or two to make sure it was secure
*Cool that someone got Absolutely the best footage of him stopping, being totally pissed off, correcting his visor and off he goes.* *I'm pretty sure Dunlop is going to be having a word or two with the helmet manufacture. Cost him a victory.*
It was nothing to do with the Arai the guy who changes the visor at pits never put the side cap on the helmet they left it dangling. If you know the system (which works for everyone else no problem) you know that the visor being wobbly when he went to stop was him doing that himself out of anger or whatever the reason he himself fully yanked up the visor which when you have the sideplates off will dislodge that end of the visor. Im not criticising him to much as im a huge fan but on RX7V helmets if the side cap is damaged or not fitted correctly and dangling about on its tether tapping at the helmet 100000 times a second you rip it off and forget about it and keep the visor in its locked or fog opened latch gap setting which is achieved by pushing the visor open lever up once to allow it to cam out into the fog position which again still locks the visor in place even if the end of the visor is totally dislodged on that side. It was the pit guys fault buy Michael has over reacted to the noises and never needed to stop just pull the visor shut over the opener lever arm and rip the sideplate off. Hope this explains how it all works. Its just unfortunate tbh
@@JimWhitesRolledUp20note *I've owned a lot of motorcycle helmets, including off-road helmets in my days. I grew up on Crotch Rockets (Suzuki GSXR1000, being one of them) and having a very good helmet is a must. I was always riding at almost 200 mph and if you lift your chin up a little too high, LOL, let's just say, you're not going to be able to see for a moment until you slow down and pull your helmet down. Just one of many funny moments I've had while riding at that speed.*
@@radicalrick9587yeah see the older original RX7 lids i think they were the first helmet to ever have the chin guard and netting bit around them that stopped the air rush under the helmet. One of my favourite lids ever was the old original Quantum F, i done everything great and because it was near enough round it felt like a bowling ball was a nice lid.. It was bad for what you say though it had too big a gap between the mouth guard and your neck so would naturally want to go upwards at the front round about 160mph. These days that aint happening on a top end lid they are better fitted at the forehead and less break in movement in the modern foams and general aero has eradicated it mostly. Even helmets around the £250 mark you wont get it rising on you unless you got the wrong size shell or cheek pads too small. Every new helmet i get i make sure it feels like it will give me a slight headache the first time. They all give out a good 10% on the first use
Arai!!!! For years I have been complaining about their quick release POS. Absolute crap. Has needed a redesign for far too long. Arai should be ashamed of how they let him down..
Arai are the best helmets. Forget that shoei shite. The new visor system is brilliant but more suited to road riders. Nobody has ever had this issue with the “old” system. But the old system wasn’t good for road riders. That’s the way it is now. Unless you have the new system helmet you have absolutely no idea what I’m talking about. So many negative helmet comments. Obviously by ignorant people. The new system is brilliant but it wasn’t designed to be a 20 second TT pit stop visor swap. As mentioned it’s easier to swap helmets and even the old system wasn’t as quick or simple as a lid swap.
@@chrisb212 even the old style were bad for TT and fiddly for road riders. It’s well known that the job of changing an arai visor in the TT pits is the one job that none of the crew wanted to do
right so you know nothing about this then? His visor guy in the pits never even put the visor on he slapped it on, it fell off then he slapped it on again. Absoultely no attempt to locate the visor he would have messed up any visor system. There is footage of it so its not really up for dispute. Michael also blamed them listen to him in the footage.
@@TrulyUniqueOne Nothing is simple when you're up against the clock at a race of this level of prestige. And even people like Nigel here - bloody loads of them - have complained about the Arai quick-change visor mechanism.
@@bad-girlbex3791 I saw exactly what the guy did on TV he put one side of the visor in the flipped it up and down, both sides have to be slotted in the visor can be opened, it's just panic at the end of the day I guess they didn't want him to lose
@@TrulyUniqueOne Yep. In a high stakes racing environment panic means nothing is as simple as it might otherwise be under zero pressure. Add to that a piece of kit that annoys the tits off of thousands of riders/racers out there, and it's a recipe for disaster. (Arai don't fit my weird head shape anyway, so I'll never have to worry about it personally. But if both customers and racers at the top of their game are finding it an annoying faff, it might be worth Arai at least listening to any feedback they're getting.)
@@bad-girlbex3791loads compain about every sysyem its a quick release system so please, I provide the things and know that every one of them you need to know the process or its a footer fest. These others that complained can you link them please?
What a head wrecker, the bloody visor of all things to rob you of a sure win. Hard luck Michael, but there are plenty of races to come, I am sure you will get that record breaking win in one of the next races, best of luck, you're a legend.
Can’t imagine how the poor guy in the pits is feeling right now.. Michael was 20+ seconds clear and cruising to victory..and now his misery is splashed all over social media..
He's on mode 'pure determination' from years now and the only one that I noticed, that don't ask publicity but still gets it like other top boys, by just doing his JOB as he says. He will get another win, and he is fast, like really fast 😃
Lucky guys to have MD stop right by them. That was an amazing bit of videoing of MD as well as the man stopping to fix his visor! Well done both guys!!!
I was SO gutted for Michael today. He fully deserved that iconic 27th win but for a small mistake by his pit crew. I also feel so sorry for that pit crew! However, racers have lost races due to ALL sorts of things in the past and I'm sure Michael will win again this week to take the overall record.
My man, regroup MD and we have another 6 races to win. Something else when the factory Honda brigade cant set a bike up to match the Hawk Fireblade rrrrrrrrrrrr, and a few more rrrrrr. 😂
I didnt watch the end but im sure he admitted that he was was lucky to win. Thats the difference between these guys and f1 , football, golf , tennis, ..........
Hicky did say he was lucky today, aye. Said he was gifted it pretty much but that mistakes happen and that he's lost races due to things in the past too so he'll take it! (Fair enough really)
The pit guy saw there was a problem with michaels visor during the pitstop, well actually had it pointed out to him, he had to go back and fix it, why he didnt take a few moments to make sure it was secure we will never know.
He never closed the visor to locate the brass dowel. If you know this system you know that you need to close it briefly to fully locate both sides before putting the caps on. Even putting the caps on hes not hung the top and pressed the bottom just a whack😂 The guy would have messed up anyone who let him near their own helmets day that day. He was paid specifically to fit that and knows the system but just ignored the lot
Absolutely gutted for MD, and then for Davy to lose time also. Hickman has mastered the technique of riding around in fourth and waiting for the front 3 to develop problems, surely his lucky run must come to an end soon!
Yeah, I think he's got a few more strings to his bow than "just hovering around 4th & waiting" FFS. That kind of approach only makes any sense if you're looking at a straightforward circuit race where everyone sets off at the same time together, and can see what's going on around them. These guys on the TT course are racing against the clock first and foremost. They aren't always aware of exactly where everyone else is, or who's losing or gaining seconds here and there. Hickman pulled off an insane lap record around the course last year...and it wasn't only a lap record, he had various records at different points around the clock AND clocked the highest speed on the course. This course ain't Snetterton, bro. You aren't in Cadwell anymore. This course is a whole different ball game. A game where Dunlop and Hickman are both at the very top.
Thankfully it was only a couple of days later that Michael was back to winning ways and finally beating Uncle Joey's IOM TT record.....what a family🏍❤️
Love Hutchy to bits. A certified TT legend, and I don't think his 5 in a week will ever be beat. Absolute testament to the human spirit of never giving in. I'd love to see Hutchy win another.
@@TrulyUniqueOne nah, see what happens next year. He’s recovered from a stroke this last year so can’t be expected to be top step again straight away. He’ll be a force again out there.
@@NiSiochainGanSaoirse The new format with more bigger races may allow it to be unfortunately. However when there were just five big races in 2010, that clean sleep was epic. If someone does five (Dunlop might this week?) it might be revered as equally as good but it won’t be in my opinion.
but it wasnt fitted right there is footage of the pit guy not attaching one side😂 Whats that got to do with the manufacturer reliability? Thats ljke blaming a car manufacturer for needing a new door coz you left one open and it ripped off.
theres some footage of the pit guy he completely forgot to go back to that side hes put the visor over looking at the side he forgot, then went directly to the other side and secured that, then basically hung that other sideplate on and slapped it. Hes not even bothered lining that side up. Bit ridiculous tbh especially as he had one job. You know that Arai system and know how it works hes basically done the motions to fit it all as one rather than individual sides, then rather than do what you need to do when fitting it all as one quickly and physically shut the visor so it self-locates.. hes basically not done that part and started fitting it a side at a time and forgot about the other side😂 The guy knows the system too so no idea why hes chose to deviate
Sorry for the dumb question as not really up to speed on the rules but were none of the spectators allowed to help Michael put the visor back into place?
Visor guy in pits clearly saw the flap wasnt locked in properly and just "whacked" it closer rather than taking half a second to look and check it - Tiny mistake which led to a massive issue. Hopefully lesson will be learnt. Amazing Michael puts in a fastest lap right on the last, amazing stuff.
Heartbreaking Couldn’t believe the tt plus coverage decided to stop showing us this drama he pulled up and they went on to something else , I was screaming at the telly. What an absolute professional MD you kept your head in the most frustrating situation Absolute legend.
sounds horrible with the teathered side caps and feels footery if you try to overfit them. If you are used to just roughly chucking them on where you think they might line up then physically shut the visor it auto-locates. You can actually be way out and it still locates if you shut the visor. From then you hang the top of the sidecap up first it self locates and hangs the sideplate at the right place for you to press the bottom into the phsical lock. If learned properly its brilliant, if you dont learn it and the type of person that gets annoyed when they hear plastic noises and tries to force stuff on before reading the instructions then any quick release system isnt for you.
Indeed Arai visors systems are shit. My condor has had 3 sets of pods due to malfunction resulting in breakage. This time it cost Micheal Dunlop the TT.
i sell the things ive only had three back in total for damaged mechanisms since the RX7V came out 😂 All three admitted they force fitted it before learning how it works. If you broke 3 back to back you offically on your own broke more than Scotlands 4th biggest helmet outlet hahaha Congrats🎉 I do know what you mean though as far as how it looks so footery and the teathered side caps ting against the helmet so it has a distinct "annoyance" to it shall we say. However you are missing what a lot of others do in that you dont need to fully locate the visor on refitment you can just put it roughtly over where the red dot is near the brass pin and simply pull the visor down and it automatically self locates. From there you push the side caps on from the top so they will slide about briefly as long as you are applying pressure at the top they will find home and you can hear and feel it, from there you simply press the bottom of them quickly and it will automatically click the lock in and the lever then shoots back out. Very easy but i do appreciate what people are saying about it being footery feeling and sounds horrible
That's just the universe telling Michael to enjoy his 26th win a bit more before hammering out a few more wins after all Hickman only has another 12 more wins to go
Fastest ever gloves, lid on off, and visor fit in history, in a race, and it was the difference. He was brilliant in the Superbike race, and wish him well for #27+ this week.
I subscribed to the LIVE Pass today. Really disapointed with the Camera Coverage of the races. Overuse of the Helicopter shots, pretty bad choices of camera placement in general, in short, worse than previous years I can remember. If a Heli Cam is cheaper for you than a certain number of well placed Track Side cameras, then next year it will cheaper for us to not pay any subscription at all ... (That camera placed at the apex of Bottom of the Barregarrow is a potential danger if for same reason it collapses or falls onto the road right in front of the riders, just saying ...)
Yes the camera points aren't very good.. needs more cameras around the Course for sure. I wont be purchasing again.. Very dissapointing the race/track footage has been very poor.. 👍
🏍️ In My Dream 🇮🇲 I had a dream that That I was riding on the Isle of Man I was in a race And I was keeping pace, with the leaders I was holding my own I couldn’t believe the speed And how they took the corners Like flat out The bike I was on was a beauty And she was oh so fast The throttle response was incredible And I swear she knew where to go To help me find that fine line She had some spirit Like a great horse She was dialed in perfectly And she was saving some for the end of the race All my trust was in her Cause at times Everything was a blur She took me home I didn’t win the race But she kept up the pace With the greatest riders ever Even though it was only a dream It was quite a scream
No thats gut wrenching for Michael hell be bloody pissed , at least they stayed on , if they had fallen of that would have been end of his race , dam i feel for him , every second he took he knew the race was going from him 😢
of all the things to go wrong. engines, gearboxes or clutches failing that is sometimes to be expected with the level of stress the TT puts on them. But a visor not clipped in properly, that has got to be gutting.
