Thank you for posting this video. I am definitely taking mine right back to COSTCO. The first speaker I purchased, I thought it was a defective one so I returned it and bought a new one. No wonder this one is also doing the same thing. 🤦🏻♀️ It was driving me crazy!
From the Ion Web site: "The unit is powering off automatically after 30 minutes. Is this normal?" The Ion Audio Total PA Premier will enter an energy-saving mode after 20 minutes unless an audio signal is detected and playing from one of the following sources: Bluetooth Auxiliary Input XLR Line Input Note: The signal from a connected microphone will not prevent the energy-saving mode from activating. When the Total PA Premier enters the energy-saving mode the display and lights will turn off and audio playback will be disabled, but the unit will still be powered on. To resume normal use and disable the energy-saving mode, simply turn a knob or press a button on the unit. Once it is awakened, the lights and display will turn on and audio playback can resume.
Liked this review. The solution is mentioned in a comment below, but to reiterate, you have to turn the volume up on the source (cell phone, laptop), then you can control the speaker volume itself on the unit, or on the ION app. You are not actually forced to have the speaker blasting all the time to keep it on.
I was just about to post this as well. I think there was a misunderstanding somewhere. And it sounds like a simple fix. People may be missing out on a great speaker due to misinformation/misunderstanding. I'm going to check out some more reviews on this speaker but I'm leaning towards getting one.
nice review. tks. To all, wouldn't there be a way to open up the speaker and by pass the "ecofriendly" relay? Haven't found anything on the subject yet. A DIY on this would really help and solve the issue.
im glad you posted this video i was just about to purchase two of these for a listening party, but now i think i will look for a different brand that doesnt have that feature,, thank you
Turn the volume all the way up on phone and all the way up on the media volume on your phone then use the speaker dial for volume, same thing happened to me and I was mad as hell about it but tried this and so far so good, hasn't shut off listened to it for 8 hrs straight today without shutting off
I had the same concern. Talked to tech support. If the input volume isn't way up, the unit has a timeout function and shuts down. That's what is causing this. They recommended having the input volume all the way up, and controlling the volume via the speaker. I tried this the other day and seems to be working. Bummer because I like to control the volume on my streaming app. I believe you can control the output volume via the Ion App. Mild inconvenience, but if it works out, not really too big a deal. Great sound for the money. Unit seems rugged, and the pair of mics are quite nice. In my opinion the value is there, it's just a weird quirk
Update: these work way smoother with Apple products. Few, if any issues. I am an Android user, and the problem has not gone away 100% just less frequent. Volume up on source device, input volume up on the Ion Total Extreme PA, then control output with the manual knob or app. Sometimes it goes a couple hours, other times just 15 minutes. Can't figure any rhyme or reason yet.
@@13jasonkm after about 6 months of having it, I can say it almost never happens when paired with Apple products, and happens about 25% of the time with Android IF you follow the tips above. Input volume on their app all the way up and on your streaming source. Good luck. Honestly, if you are an Android guy, you might want to return them.
Thanks for the heads up on this. I just purchased two of these and will be immediately looking at this issue to see if I can work with it or send them back.
I realized why it shuts down . If you're using a Bluetooth laptop it shuts down every 10 minutes . But if you connect your phone or connecting using aux it can play all day all night. Try it and see.(avoid using Bluetooth laptop ) Hope this helps
I control the volume via the ion app but always have my phone volume on max and it never shuts off. I link two of them together for stereo sound great for rap rehearsal.
Not only does it shut itself off!! It also resets the damn volume when you turn it back on!! It is almost unusable during a live performance where this is set up well beforehand and soundcheck/breaks in the performance will happen. I just bought this speaker a couple days ago. It really is a fantastic sounding speaker for hooking up my Kemper ( Guitar Pedalboard ) but this shutting off thing is 100% a deal breaker for my band. It is important for the audience to get a consistent sound and when things are set they need to stay set. Configuration changes are not ok. What a shame
I got the ion aduio total pa ultimate bass 650 watt recently got it had a total pa max 500 wattbefore for 4 years with no problems than switched but mine shutted off when i played music on the soundcloud like the bass just went crazy than wouldnt turn on for a few mins its probably because you need to break it in which takes 20-30 hours before you can actually blast it but also u gotta make sure u dont clip the aduio
I also got a knob on the back to adjust the source and volume does anybody know a good setting for it my speaker aduio was cutting out till i put the source on 30vol and 30 source but it shutted down a few times when i turned up the volume on Soundcloud but on RU-vid it never shuts off
i reviewed this and was ok, used 2 times, 3rd time after 10 minutes it turned off, changes extension cords , everyhting, keeps turning off, this isa problem i will have to consider retruning and updating my review, bad flaw , you should be able torun at any volume. thanks for pointing this problem out, i thought i was going crazy.
