I had to say goodbye to my old friend, my Celestron C8 OTA and accessories to do a bit of upgrading to a dedicated imaging newtonian! Seems like these are hard to find in stock but David Astro (davidastro.com/) in canada had one still. Very quick responses to inquiries by them too!

It looks so weird seeing you do an unboxing instead of the usual scripts tutorial. And we get to see the rest of your body! 😅 Enjoy the new scope and clear skies my friend! 📸🔭🌟

Eagerly awaiting your reviews after imaging with it. I'm considering the 6" version for now, until I get a heavier mount and can't find reviews on the performance anywhere. You now have a new subscriber, and I'll be watching for that review!

I was just looking at their 12" f4.... Very eager to see how this one pans out.

Can't recommend an OCAL enough, or other camera type tool for collimation. WAY more accurate centering that secondary for perfect field illumination, then lock everything down quite tight. Save OCAL settings in the app. then later easily check if collimation has shifted. Mine never does. Your scope has the extended front end past the spider like the Orion which is helpful especially of you want to add a dew shield. I run a 20 inch long home made unit using the 6 or so extra tube length so about 14 to 15 inches of shield effectively. Helps tremendously. Tube diameter between GSO and Skywatcher are different. Machined spider for the Skywatcher and Older Orion with baffles is 286mm. GSO has a different requirement. Forget the dimensions.. You'll love the scope. Good luck!

That thing is sweeeeet! Nice unboxing vid. After the video RU-vid showed me an add with Chester Cheeta in it. It's like I'm a kid again.

Wow, those counter weights all the way at the end of the shaft, aren't you worried about knocking over your neighbors fence? LOL. No doubt you've considered the moment arm effect on your mount, no concerns? I've been wanting to get another counter weight for my CEM70 to snug them up right against the mount, but mine's not half as bad as yours. Caution tape for the meridian flip is advised! I'll be interested to hear about your collimation adventures and how the iOptron factory setup compares to Cuiv's Newt experience. Not just a little bit envious coming from 8" F7 land, good fortune and many clear skies :^)

I do have an extra counter weight I could put on and shorten the arm length, I was more eager just to get it all together :) I have plenty of clearance for the meridian flip. it actually doesn't extend down as far as the refractor did. I used a laser collimator and had it collimated in like 5 minutes. I didn't have any troubles and checked focus last night inbetween clouds and I have nice tight stars! They are quite a bit tighter than the refractors and are pin pricks compared to the stars out of an SCT.

Nice it’s similar to my Orion vx10. Worth considering using Bobs Knobs first collimationof the secondary? Make your life easy.

Looks like a GSO design...?
@setiv2
@setiv2 19 дней назад
my guess is Aperature, TSOptics, GSO, iOptron, etc are all made by the same factory

Curious why you picked the iOptron instead of the SkyWatcher 250 Quattro?
@setiv2
@setiv2 19 дней назад
Mostly the 400 dollars difference and the skywatcher has a less beefy focuser and no fan, so would have to do more modifications

@@setiv2 Can't wait to see how well that works for you. I'm surprised you're trying such a big scope on what looks to be a HEQ5... If anything I suggest you buy a bunch more counterweights and get them all tucked up against the mount to reduce that moment-arm as much as you can. That made a pretty big difference for me on my EQ6-R

Could the AM5 support this scope ?
@MrPedalpaddle
@MrPedalpaddle 19 дней назад
The OTA is 34 lb, more than I would want to put on my AM5. Don’t know if the new AM5n Could handle it. Myself, having tried a 10” Newt, I am much happier with my 8” Vixen Newt - so much easier to manage (& no collimation)
