How does IOSYS pull off emotional masterpieces like this while still composing things like Captain Murasa's Ass Anchor?

It's amazing quality for 240p

This sounds nothing like you'd expect from an IOSYS song, but it's honestly my favorite work of theirs

Today is the day after I became a Touhou fan. I've now been a fan for 10 years. This was my favorite regarding Touhou back in the day, and this song and video itself absolute holds up to this very day; it's truly a beautiful as a work of art and the touching song only does wonders for the imagery. I love the call backs to Alice's past appearance in the PC-98, Touhou 5 was truly amazing Touhou game, and it's something I hope people who see this check out because it's absolutely worth at least a look. Touhou itself is worth a lot; it's such a wonderful series. ^^

This song brings back so many memories when I got into Touhou. When I first watched it, I didnt know who any of the girls were in the Clock. Now I know each of them... Touhou really is amazing.

Okay but IOSYS are iconic tbh and their signature gratuitous sine wave synth shaped my entire music taste to this day.

This was one of the first Touhou related animations I ever watched. It was one of the gates that got me into Touhou.

Somehow remembered this song in a dream I saw few days ago. Took me these days to remember the name right. It's been 14 years since my friend showed me Touhou.

That bridge at around 1:00 minute... Man, the electric piano just soothes my soul while also filling me with a sense of melancholy.

Alice wants her dolls to be sentient and independent, like another being. Their actions and movement including personality are controlled and simulated by Alice entirely.

This song certainly brings out an intriguing part of Alice. She sees herself as only a doll, a perfect doll, but still a doll. A doll's purpose is to serve it's master, but Alice was set free by her mother, Shinki. She was given a life of her own, and a destiny of her own choosing. But all she sees is that her mother cast her away, and Alice would rather be with Shinki as a doll than alone as an independent being.

I remember listening to this all the time over 10 years ago, this brought a nostalgic tear to my eye... and this is why I'll never clean my "watch later" playlist xD

To People that think this is an anime: This is not an anime, it's from a game called Touhou Mystic Square.

I didn't use to be the biggest fan of this song despite its popularity, but now years of growing up and playing more Mystic Square later I can't get enough of it.

This is such a beautiful video, such a beautiful song, I love this so much. The animations, the drawings; everything. I love this. If I was able to like this more than once I'd do it.

It has been more than 10 years. So many things have happened.

The feeling I get from this song is very sad, tbh. I think,, maybe the story is that Alice is one of the very few PC-98 Touhou characters who survived past 5 and Alice, who remembers these friends fondly - while everyone else in canon seems to have forgotten about those games and characters entirely - attempted to perhaps help them live on through her dolls?? I don't know, that's the sort of feeling I got from it.

There was this doujin I read recently about Alice giving sentience to Shangai for a while by using a stone Shinki had given her upon visiting. And yet, during that time, she avoids seeing Shangai and leaves her to Marisa. This spawns a rather interesting dialogue between Marisa and Alice in regards to the doubts of the latter "doing the same as Shinki-sama" by giving Shangai sentience.

Although a solid theory was that Shinki (remember her?) is actually Alice's mother (creator) and that alice is actually a doll or "articficial child" given life and existance by shinkis powers given her human form, from there alice has tracelled gensokyo posting puppet plays only to live in the forest of magic, she has embraced the love and potential of dolls and uses them in her spells.

I remember artificial children coming out when I was in the prime of my weeabooism and I just thought it was a cool song. Since then I've blocked out it until recently. Coming back to it now and reading it I realized that this is more then a great song. Its a masterpiece. I'm about to cry.

I believe was a orphaned during the Romanian Revolution of 1989 and almost died herself. However she was saved by Shinki, who took a piece of her soul (we meet this piece during Mystic Square). She ends up with a of group of drifters who took advantage of the fall of the Iron Curtain and traveled across Europe. They eventual travel to the far east but stop after Alice (possibly not her name at this point) grows weak due to the missing fragment of her soul....

@hplover226 This is not the original full movie. It is indeed the full song, but the movie was originally the short version, so it had to be reduplicated and cut-and-pasted to fit the full version.

Why i am crying ?

Alice was once human, through vigorous training of magic, she transcended humanity and became youkai. Quote from wiki: During Mystic Square, as a stage 3 boss, she attempted to prevent the heroine from proceeding. After the events she returns as the extra stage boss. Because Alice had learnt new types of magic from the grimoire, it is likely she became a youkai before the second encounter due to the high level magic. However, she was still defeated.

It's so sad when the song says, "Fate is Fate and it can't be resisted," No matter what you do in the game, you will have to come into the reality of the end, where Madotsuki kills herself, because her only companions were her dreams.

Actually this video is about how past characters (especially those in the PC-98 era) are probably never going to appear in another Touhou game. The dolls represented those characters and Alice represented their fanbase. So it is actually much more tragic because this happens in real life.

@PrincesTomboy Well they use 'heart' differently in japanese. For example, it can also be translated as 'soul' 'spirit' and stuff like that. We separate them, but the Japanese consider it all part of the same thing...I don't know if that makes any sense but...basically it can be translated as a lot of other things besides 'heart'.

A bit morbid but understandable... That having been said being a Yōkai now rather then a human also makes that a problem for Alice.... Some Yōkai are almost as powerful as Gods but they mark the lowest of the low on the spiritual latter. Committing suicide would only assure Alice she will never be allowed to be reborn as anything other then a Yōkai until the end of time... So sad as it may be for her, She's still kinda better off now with her human ambitions to grow into something more...

I never heard of either IOSYS or Touhou before. IOSYS does some seriously proffesional work with those vids, so I can't help thinking how good the real game is. Is Touhou a good game? Is it Japanese only? Are its first games too old to play on new computers?

Medicine has nothing to do with Alice. Alice is interested in what makes her tick, sure, but did not create her in any way. Also, Medicine has been a part of Touhou since TH 9, long before TH 12.3

Old touhou seems so epic, ZUN should make remakes of them :(
