Missouri and Wisconsin is a tossup for me. I LOVE the story of the artillery position that dared to fire at and hit the Wisconsin. She retaliated with not 1 but 2 full volleys which basically vaporized their position for causing the only enemy damage to the ship.
I would say the IOWA because I was stationed on the USS FLATLEY FFG21 doing operations with her in the Caribbean and I got to see her fire her 16 inch guns individually and all at once. I was also stationed on 2 Destroyers homeported in Norfolk Virginia and we sometimes we would moor outside of the IOWA and have to walk across her to get to the shore. Wish that I could go back in TIME!
If they would fully refurbish and re- update just two of these big mamas with really cool tv commercials it would be a great recruitment tool ! Right now the US Navy is on a manpower slump.
I was in the Navy 1977-1990 and I was stationed on the USS FLATLEY FFG21 doing operations in the Caribbean with the IOWA and I got to see the USS IOWA Firing Her 16 inch guns individually and all at once. What a Sight!
