I am a Vol fan that was at the game. I had good interactions with Iowa fans. They were all passionate, classy, and obviously a loyal fanbase. Iowa may not be completing for national championships. However, y’all have still been relevant within your conference, so it could get worse. It’s hard to let a coach go that just made it to the conference championship game. I do worry with the new teams coming into the Big 10 that may change. I recognize that y’all are in a tough situation as a fanbase.
Vols fan here, and all Vols fans know your pain well. TN was in a bad, bad place for years. So long that I was beginning to feel like we weren't just in a slump but we were legit a bad team now. But it turned around pretty quickly with a few pieces being put in the right places so it can happen for Iowa too. Like other Vols fans here are saying, don't stop supporting them and all the true fans will know who the bandwagon jumpers are when Iowa is back on top
Iowa is a class act and has a solid football program. Nothing but respect to you guys. This coming from a Vol fan that lives in Tennessee. Keep your head up
trust me as a Vol fan we feel you. when we got coach Heaupel it completely changed the whole culture. he brought a brand new type of coaching and atmosphere into TN with his fast pace offense that he runs it’s way more fun and top offensive players wanna come here now. we are getting insane recruits bc of him it’s really fun to be a Vols fan rn. honestly you guys might just need new coaching to change the culture
@@roberthuxen3461 I’m from Tennessee, a Vols fan and I assumed it was going to be tough game especially with Tennessee freshman quarterback in his first start. I did not see this coming.
@@roberthuxen3461 I agree! With so much money and supposed "culture" at these big schools, I'm surprised they let the SEC get most of the "better" athletes. But with the conference expanding to the West Coast, hopefully we'll see the Big 10 be more competitive with the SEC!
@@chaebaljon As a Vol fan I'll be rooting for you guys. Ferentz is a great coach, but he has to adapt offensively. Maybe seeing the west coast teams in conference will make him rethink his offensive philosophy. Iowa really needs to recruit more team speed, and recruit the west coast and south. Best of luck to you all! Classy program and fans.
Dude, I was worried about playing Iowa. 10 years ago it was very painful being a Vol fan. The bad years should make any fan humble during the lean years, every program has them. I know Iowa will be better in time. Keep the faith.
VOL fan here. Your coach should have played that second string QB much sooner. He was much better. I was pulling for you guys against Michigan. Can’t stand those cheaters.
@@squidish5263 I don’t like or dislike the Hawkeyes. I was just trying to find some silver lining for their fans. Yes he could not pass but he was running successfully which was better than the starter. Vol fans have been where you are. We wish you no ill will. All I can say is keep being a fan of your team. Eventually good times can come.
I’m a TN fan. I wasn’t happy when I found out we were playing Iowa. We weren’t sure how Nico would do in his first start, especially in a big bowl game against a great defense. I knew Iowa has offensive issues. But i thought it would be a close low scoring game. I felt bad for y’all’s backup qb too. They threw him in a tough situation.
Same I was not happy about drawing Iowa. I thought the defense was going to eat us. I had hope for Nico though, and I am happy with his performance. He is going to be a problem for the rest of the SEC for the next 4 years!
It looks like he has a bright future, if he doesn't get hurt. Needs to put on a little weight, but I think the strength and conditioning will help with that no problem!
Life ling Vol fan here. It is tough to go through. We have been there. Ferentz is a great guy and a class act but, Iowa has to decide if they want to remain mediocre or move forward in search of greener grass. Question would be, who is lined up knocking on the door to take that job? Who could they find that would be able to come in and change the direction of the program. And you have to be very careful, look what happened to TN when the voices became so loud they fired Fulmer. The coach that brought us our only natty in 50 years! It has been a train wreck ever since. Good luck to you man. We feel your pain! Even though we enjoyed inflicting some of that pain on you. GO VOLS! GO BIG ORANGE!
Before anyone gets crazy and starts talking about replacing the HC definitely have someone lined up or you end up on a real roller coaster. Believe me we, Vols fans, lived it.
Man I’m a huge Tennessee and wish nothing but the best for Iowa but that guy is the worst QB I’ve seen in NCAA football. Not trying to be an ass but it’s amazing that team was 10-2
In the NIL era you have to put up the money to compete but on a positive note you are in the big ten which is at the least a top 2 conference with the SEC. I’ve always liked watching Iowa play especially when you guys play Iowa State. We as Vols fans totally understand, we were trash for over a decade until we got a good coach. So I’d say better coaches and put up money for players. 👊🏼👍🏼
Vol fan here. We played without our starting qb, 2 running backs, and several starting defensive players. I was at the game and, yes, it was worth the price of the ticket.
As a vol fan I recall some tough years a while back. Iowa will have better days ahead, but it does take some time and shaking things up a but before you get their. Just stick with your team and try to be a good example, and always try to be nice when things are going good. Treat others how you would like to be treated, and it will eventually return to you. Like Martin Luther King said, it's the content of your character. Your attitude will determine attitude. Hopefully the coaching staff will stick to that and bring quality players and coaches that will do things the right way and for the right reasons. God Bless.
10 win season is nothing to feel bad about man. You guys had more wins than us to end the season. I was also nervous about Nico's first game going up against Iowa's Defense. Heck of a defense.
Iowa was exposed as a very mediocre team, having played a weak non-conference schedule and a terrible Big Ten West, they played three good teams during the entire season and lost with a combined score of 92-0.
It’s just going to get uglier though, because the Big 10 West will not exist next season. Iowa is going to try and run their 1979-style offense vs the likes of Washington, Oregon and USC-not to mention the traditional Big 10 powerhouses? Heh. Good fucking luck.
@@telordesuvage3072 Yes, I know they in the Big Ten West, (who doesn't know this?) And no, their offense is so terrible, they would not come close to winning six games in the SEC, unless they played Vanderbilt every week.
Hey I watched your show, and want to tell you it's not been that long ago since life long vol fans like myself were in the same place that you're in. Just be glad you won the games you won,. it hasn't been that long since we had a loosing season. So we do know what you are feeling
Great video man. I'm a TN fan. We were very worried about Iowa's defense, but I don't think any of us knew how bad Iowa's offense was. And you guys had like 7 or 8 sacks. I think Iowa's got to have a mobile QB. In college that seems to be the great equalizer. Thanks for the fun video.
Iowa does an amazing job with their defense. Pair that with an up tempo offense and the sky is the limit. Don't even have to have insane talent. Just some good solid play but quickly to keep the opposing defense off balance
tn fan here and i feel your pain man. we are just now coming out of 20 years of obscurity. iowa has a good enough D to do well in the Big 10. if you can get a good running game and at least a game manager, you can reach lots of wins. however, as far as winning the national championship or something on that level, you need a coach that can change the entire culture. you have to recruit well, develop players, be willing to pay those players and coaches, and put that altogether for a cohesive team, as football is the ultimate team sport. i wish you luck. as a fan, we have very little power over what happens but i wish you well and hope you can still enjoy college football in its ever-changing landscape.
Vol Fan here, just stick through it. The big 10 is unfortunately going to change a lot in the future. Team needs to adapt and adopt some more explosive players and concepts.
We still have fans who think it's cool to root for other SEC teams. I remember going through that phase around 30 years ago, then I realized other SEC teams sure as heck don't pull for us. So up em!
Iowa being in the big 10 west definitely will work in yalls favor us vol fans went through what yall are going through right now but we had to play elite teams week in week out all I can say is enjoy that wins no matter what and enjoy the cheap tickets
Yall took the first step. Your OC was clueless. IowA seems to be happy with Ferentz year in and year out. Now you guys have system that works on Defense. Hang tough and hopefully the offense can catch up. Much respect !
Glad to see you're a fellow Hawkeye fan! . . . however, I think you doomed them in this game when you optimistically at 1:28 said, when we were on the 4-yard line: "Let's Go!!!" . . . such optimism will surely doom any offense Iowa might otherwise have mustered, so naturally ended in an interception . . . we need to be very careful with such optimism. Very interested to see what happens next year with some of our A-team players back! (I'm always cautiously optimistic!) Keep up the good work!!!
Vols fan.. I feel for you. We had some of those years I hope you can get the offense worked out. You guy NEED a QB or two. But you got to get an few linemen too. Maybe the new Offensive Coach you guys are getting will help. It can't be worse I don't think. I truly wish you luck in getting the program fixed. I think 3 or 4 offensive players would make your team much better. QB - linemen - and maybe WR. We need improvement too
3 years ago before Huepel took over we were in the same boat you're in and our culture is WAY better now. I agree with you I'd rather be mediocre and have a good offense that is fun to watch then make it to games and get housed. Good luck!
Nico is like 6'6. he looks like a skinny joe milton ont he field. he's super fast though. you can see him do his progressions but at the same time always looking for the run play. you can tell he's really smart. tennessee is going to be fun to watch next year. some big time defense players as well. Also he was a 5-star recruit i think
TN fan here. Honestly the score was worse than Iowa’s performance. You’re a good qb and a creative play called away from being top tier in the b1G. I really liked that young qb that they finally put in near the end of the game (Marco?). That kid showed a lot of potential. I honestly don’t understand why they waited so long to put him in. I think with that kid and a new play caller next season you can match what you did this season and maybe even beat 1-2 of the big boys in the big 10
Honestly. I believe we as in Vols fans got lucky with a guy like Josh heupel. He just didn't get good players in, he changed our culture and vibe of of the city of knoxville. Get a coach like that at least you guys had a coach 25 years we've been dealing with coach switching ever since Phillip Fulmer back in 1992-2008. Just make that move and maybe you'll find a masterpiece like josh heupel people also don't realize but josh heupel has been better every year and he has evolved ever since he came here.
Iowa had a top-rated defense? If Iowa played in the SEC, their defense would be ranked #7-8 in the conference. Bama, UGA, LSU, UFL, Ole Miss, USC, MIzzou, and of course, UT would run them out of the stadium every week. Iowa would win 4 maybe 5 games in with an SEC schedule depending upon the out-of-conference games. Remember, UT lost 4 SEC games this year.
Dude you guys had a good season! You kidding? We weren't exactly jumping for joy when we found out we were playing ya'll. This Iowa team was a good QB away from winning the Big 10
This game is the precise reason people didnt care about the big 10 west. If an average team in the sec like Tennessee was in the big 10 west it would be a wrap.
I really respect the Iowa program. Bowl games just arent fun anymore with all the opt outs and transfers. With a team like Iowa its tough to grab talent from the west and south. Especially tough now that players can transfer every year. I hope yall can figure it out.
Ross in here, but from reading the reports in your papers, it’s my understanding that was your office of coordinator’s last game. It was Kirk Ferentz’s son.
I'm a Vols fan, I think what Iowa needs is a smaller, more mobile QB or at the very least an accurate pocket passer..their QB looks like a defensive lineman or FB, he can't move..and more speed on the offense, that would work wonders. They could make a few changes even without getting the very best players, if the coach would adapt that over to what he's already doing, but I don't think he seems like he wants to adapt..
I don't want to make you feel worse, but the Vols didn't have their #1 QB, didn't have their #1 and #2 running backs, lost half their defensive backfield to the portal, and were missing some of their top receivers too, I believe. The coaches did a great job of getting the replacements prepared, but that was not our best team.
I am a die hard vol fan here love what i seen from Nico's running game but he still needs to work on his passing game we are not out of the woods yet as a tenn fans bc if he dont get his passing down then we are gonna be laughing stock of the sec again next season and i dont wanna hear uuhhhh he jusy needs to to mature bc this pass yr was his chance to mature but instead of giving nico his chance they kept playin "always say no joe" remember what joe said "he dont lose in Florida" lmao but i really hope Nico gets his passin down
There were calls for KF to be fired the last time Tennessee beat his team and he bounced back. I personally think he is not worth $7 million a year and Iowa has a winning tradition that enables them to hire a young aggressive head coach. Staying with Kirk is the wrong strategy. He would have had 5 or more losses in the SEC this year and with the influx of teams to the B1G next year, the weak Western Division won’t exist. Thus, Iowa needs better coaching to compete!
What Iowa needs to do is contact every booster you can find a get you a big ol' pile of money and buy you some players and a good coach. That's what it takes to win these days. SEC teams are good because we're willing to spend the money on them.
As a LSU fan I was really hoping that we got to play you guys for an easy win and at least you guys would have scored on us some. But I mean you technically had a good year by going 10-2 but if you want any better then that then ur coach needs to be fired. You just can’t win anything substantial with an offense so terrible.
Your program needs a complete rebuild. You're in the same situation we were in our last year of Fulmer and I say that with utmost respect to Coach Fulmer. He was one of the greatest coaches in Tennessee history. However, just like Fulmer, the current college football landscape has left Kirk Ferentz in the stone ages of college football. He's a great coach and will forever be considered one of the greatest at Iowa but his style and stubbornness will forever hold Iowa back. And trust me from experience, your first hire after you get rid of Ferentz may not be the right choice. Look at the history of Tennessee and for that matter Alabama when they fired Stallings.
Yeah man, it sounds rough, but I have been saying on Tennessee Blogs, that "It was IOWA!!". Sorry, but there should never be a question if Tennessee beats Iowa, NEVER! Really do not know what Iowa should do, I know recruiting is hard there, but honestly, if Iowa were in the SEC, they would be lucky to win maybe 2 games a year, maybe none now, with the edition of Oklahoma and Texas.
Well, Iowa could always join the sunbelt conference. Just kidding Iowa fans, I know how frustrating it is never being able to win the big games. If Iowa had an offense 1/3 as talented as the defense Iowa would be a contender just about every year .
How did this team win 10 games and play in the BIG championship game? They would maybe win 4 games in the SEC. Shows how weak the BIG is from top to bottom. SEC teams are just more athletic. This happened the last time Tenn played Iowa in a bowl game as well. The BIG plays old man football, mainly the teams not named Ohio State and Michigan.
I honestly thought we were going to make Iowa look good on offense. Our defense has majorly improved from last year. Iowa is still recruiting players like it's the 90s. Time to have this coach step down and get fresh blood in Iowa. I know it's a total TN thing to say fire your coach.
As a TN fan i will say atleast in your " bad year" you have 10 wins. We Vol fans know the pains of being a fan of a currently frustrating team with great history. As far as what you guys can do, idk the history of your coach but I know he's been there awhile. Do you as Iowa fans think he is open to changing offensive play styles? I think with the offense being as bad as it is, you are going to have a hard time recruiting quality offensive players. If you guys maybe fire your OC and get someone with a completely different philosophy that gets a spark of offensive life one season and shows good improvement, that would be a great start and cause better quality offensive players to look into commiting. But seems the offense as a whole from player, to coach to style of play needs to be stripped down to the studs and rebuilt. All that said, you guys have a great tradition and brand . I think you're a coaching change or two away from being great again.
Defense doesn’t win championships anymore! You need a different oc! I would much rather Iowa win the big 10 then Ohio st or Michigan!! You still have a good program!
I’m a TN fan & I wish I had any advice for success. But famously, we’ve been god awful terrible for 20 years with the exception of the last 2 decent seasons so I guess I’d just say… pick a god and pray hard 😬😂
Hey, bro, ya'll were great in your conference, but you're playing an SEC opponent. Most conferences don't produce the same type of caliber teams the SEC does.
You got beat by Tennessee’s 3rd and 4th string running backs and DBs and 2nd string WRs and OL. Most of the starters opted out for the NFL draft or were out hurt. Also lost starting DE and DBs to the portal. Imagine how bad it would have been if they would have played. Scored 45 the last time and 35 this time, Iowa probably don’t want a third go around.
No big head here. The last time I got haughty we trounced Cali in a bowl and after that, we went belly up for a decade and a half. Pay the money for a good coach who can snake-charm some kids. Frankly, the way college football is going it's just a matter of time before it is going to be too expensive for boondock states like ours to afford it.
