The Iowa Farm Damage is pretty unbelievable. It's unlike anything I've ever seen in my lifetime. Thank you to the Iowa farmers who took time out of there days to show me around. Early on in the trip I made a quick stop at an equipment auction and for a quick minute I thought I bought my first combine.

Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

I am from Fairfax, approx. 3000 population. I work for the city. From the time the wind calmed to 40 mph after the storm to now (over 2 weeks later) all we have done is haul trees. When it is all done, we will be well over 1000 truck loads of trees removed from the residents properties and city properties. Just crazy. No injuries during the storm. AMAZING! God bless!

Thank you for giving Iowa some attention. The rest of the country does not seem to be interested. We have been devastated. We are 11 days out and many people are still without power.. However the lineman are doing a great job. We are thankful for the assistance we have received. We are Iowa strong but we are tired!

I’m not sure Interested is the right word. I’m in Northeast Ohio, and there wasn’t much talk about the storm. We were expecting some of it this past weekend. But since it stayed North of us, it didn’t make the News! I think Michigan and Northwest Ohio got some but that’s it!
@Benglator1
@Benglator1 3 года назад
Others do care and are interested. It is the media though that has decided your suffering means very little. We here in Florida feel the same as you do when we take a hit from a hurricane. We make news leading up to the storm and then just enough tv time to show others the devastation and then we are left to our misery with no power as the rest of the country carries on. Some of us do care so just keep pushing on everyday and don't get frustrated or fall into despair as that is not good for your soul. Florida proud with our thoughts and prayers for you all in Iowa and a speedy recovery. :) p.s. Long live those linemen!!! I buy them water and food when we need them here. It really gives them a big boost in feeling good.

As a British farmer now producing hay in Spain, I sympathise totally. Farmers are the same wherever you are in the world - we all face the same challenges and unlike most professions we rely heavily on luck and nature to provide our livelihoods. I strongly believe a career in Agriculture is the best job in the world - but it is also one of the hardest and can be one of the most volatile. Sending thoughts and hope that everyone affected will be able to rebuild and afford to replant for a better harvest next year. The world needs our farmers.

Thanks for making the trip and using your voice to help "tell the story". Quick math: even after crop insurance, the example you used of $60 PER ACRE short of "breaking even", on 1,000 acres of corn, that's $60,000 "in the hole" of just of the cost to put that crop in the ground. My family's farms SW of Montour, IA sustained significant damage: corn crop is 100% loss, along with two machine sheds, two cattle barns (both just 5 years old) and two older gain bins - all GONE. The most striking thing about this storm is how widespread the damage is. Thanks again for adding your voice on behalf of Iowa's farmers, farm families and small towns impacted by this monster storm. God bless you brother!

Absolutely insane. Pray for them. Here in eastern Washington back in 2000 we had a major hail storm come through it was so thick it looked like a white wall coming at us and it lasted about 30 min. We lost all our apples, 600 acres of onions and sweet corn. Our family farm never recovered and we had to sell about 6 years later. Hopefully these guys will have a chance. Can we all get a mulligan on 2020 please

I mean the UK's wind gets pretty bad but the problem with it is it lasts days it's not necessarily powerful. like 70mph and not 100 but it lasts a long time.

I watch all you RU-vid farmers and Cole The Corn Star. I don't remember hearing anything about this story and the damage here in Indy. I hope know one was hurt in the storm. Thanks again see you in the next video.

Hi Zach and Becky; Thanks Soooo much for getting the word out on this devastation.... You hear from me often and I can’t tell the pain central Iowa is feeling. My family farm is near Tama. My dad passed away this past Sept. and I’m glad he didn’t have to see this. We will recover however and be stronger after the recovery than before. We will need to re-think how we design, build and manage empty grain bins. Captain Al from Tampa 😎

G'day Zach, that was an emense storm, I come from cyclone country here in Australia and I can tell you most cyclones don't do that much damage over such a wide area, I can see at times it left you fairly shaken and I'm sure most from a farm or rural background share your thoughts and emotions. When I was around 10 about 40 years ago the sugar cane farms in about a 15 mile area around our farm where hit by a hail storm in the middle of harvest season, it left the sugar cane flatter then that corn, blew the ends of sheds inwards and dropped 20" of rain in about 1/2 hour, we had the leaves of trees stripped off and plasted on the front of our house so that itvturned completly green. Nature is amazing even when it is so destructive. Prayers for all those with damage and crop loss and especialy for all the Pauls. Cheers mate 🍻

Your definition of Cyclone Country and mine are different that was Cyclone Country but it's Iowa State University Cyclones country and I guess that's we we took the name in the early 1900's after a huge point win in football

Thanks for sharing this, the loss of farms, is hard to see. It is good to see those helping out. This is why I watch your and other farmers youtube channels, you tell the truth about that is going on, and how farming is, good, bad. Thanks for farming and thanks for those helping with the cleanup. Keep making the videos.

Thank you for sharing, you know there are lots of people who really don't understand what our farmers go through and for this I am truly thankful. I pray you all had insurance even though it isn't as much as a full harvest. I pray you all are safe and can rebuild. Wish I were closer to volunteer my time. God bless

Honestly, “yeah, it will stay $100,000 cheaper over time too” is such under rated consumer advice. Always worth remembering that if you buy used machine then it will be the cheaper one when you sell it on too.

Excellent, beautiful job Zach. The way you captured this day was worthy of a report on 60 Minutes. Nice job on the editing too. You captured the devastation; and not just the visual damage of grain bins and corn, but the damage to the farmers' livelihoods as well. All with a little sprinkle of MF humor. We haven't see enough about this story in the media, and your ability to talk to people and get the story first-hand was very informative. This storm will have a major effect on commodity prices this fall and that is another story our national media is missing. I also loved the way the farmers came across. The Bloomberg stereotype of the Midwestern farmer couldn't be more wrong. These guys may dress in t-shirts and ball caps, but they are businessmen and scientists for sure. Your interviews captured the fact that there is a lot of thinking and planning that goes into having a successful farm operation. Thanks
