Hey. One note here: the 32Mb flash memory is most probably for program data for the MCU only. Other than that there is no internal flash memory, so it's likely that the camera cannot store any footage internally AT ALL.
32M Flash is the ARM processor program memory. There is no local storage of images at all here. All goes out over the network connection. Interesting they used a real bearing for the swivel axis and not for the other. Those steppers are very cheap, as they are used in aircon indoor units as well as many other places where a low cost easy to drive slow rate motor is needed.

Hey TPAI, If you plan to purchase any more cameras can I suggest you try some with .h264 video codec? These are much more efficient in terms of transmitting and storing video to a recording device, as well as viewing the camera feed online. It probably uses about 1/10th or less of the bandwidth that a MJPG camera uses. Streaming a few mbps over your wifi (which is a shared medium) continuously can have a noticeable affect on the performance of the network in my experience. Plus you can get great framerates even at very high resolutions. For an installation where the camera is fixed (which I expect yours ultimately will be) then PTZ may limit your choice of camera. There are many bullet or dome style IP cameras with h264 starting at around US$50. The additional mechanics and electronics (as you've shown) for PTZ add on cost so a stationary camera can have better components than a PTZ camera for the same price. Foscam makes some good entry level units (just watch out for clones) of all shapes and sizes including weatherproof outdoor units. I have tried a few solutions for recording video (and, of course, detecting motion). There is some windows-only software called Sighthound (formerly Vitamin D Video) which is just fantastic. It is not free, but does not cost a lot given the functionality it offers. The key feature is the intelligent way that it can detect a person (vs. a cat) to avoid false triggers. If you try it out I'm sure you'll see how well it works, better than I could ever explain it. Some other software which you might also like is called Xeoma. It is very powerful (runs on any platform) and I was quite impressed. I believe you can get a free license if you do a review. iSpy and Blue Iris are two others you may like to have a look at. Although you can run Zoneminder on a Raspberry Pi for free I don't think that it is a good option these days. Better to repurpose an old PC or laptop. Thanks for your videos. I've done a teardown of these before. Surprisingly enough the camera board and wifi module are USB based and can be plugged into a PC if your connections are correct.

I'd like to see you connect the GND, RX and TX lines to a serial port and power up the camera to see if there's anything interesting there. I found some on a digital TV decoder box and was able to access a Linux shell and look around inside the OS.
might buying a 12$ ip cam just to gut it stick a webcam in it and control the steppers with a arduions + bluetooth+ python for streaming .... hmm... cheaper then building a homemade pan/tilt setup
That camera is like a little robot. It is amazing cheap devices like that are sold today. It would be cool to mount one on an RC car so you have a rover security unit.
Did you do the music on the fast disassembly sequence? Serial port is nicely labelled on the main board... good for hardware hacking: ARM processor, plenty of RAM... would love to get into that serial-port.

The thing I never understood about security cameras is why do the manufacturers "ring" the lens with IR LEDs? It would be better to supply some small IR lights that can be place in strategic locations to get a good view of anybody coming close to the camera.
What's the point of lighting something or someone up from the side? The picture would be full of shadows that make thing harder to see. Also it would be much more expensive to build something external with case, wire and connectors.

Thanks for the security videos I am just about to start setting up video etc and I do not know ANYTHING about it other than I do not have a lot of money so I can not afford to buy useless cameras etc,... so far I am guessing i will need about 8 cameras at least 6 Robert in niagara falls
