The mini 6 replaced my full size ipad, kindle, notebook and in large part my iphone - it's small enough to be a MUCH better typing experience than a full size iPad, it is a wonderful reading experience as it can go super dim at night and it's portable enough to fit in a jacket pocket - I love this thing!
@@arvi8843 256GB as I like to copy the photos from my mirrorless to Lightroom, which then syncs to the cloud and clears up space, this wouldn't be possible with the 64GB version. I wish there was a 512GB version to be honest!
@@DigiDriftZone Thanks. Interesting that it replaced your kindle. Wouldn't be reading a book in iPad cause headache because of the screen or you installed a screen protector or an app that makes it tolerable?
@@arvi8843 I find tension on the eyes less with an iPad than with a kindle, it's much higher resolution and can go much dimmer in low light. If I am reading during the day, setting the backlight somewhere in the middle looks very natural, like a quality printed magazine. However I usually read in the evenings with very dim lighting, in which case having the kindle app on the iPad set to yellow text on black background looks very natural, trying to do the same on the kindle looks washed out and too bright.
@@arvi8843 I decided to buy a kindle again, not so much for eye strain but rather because I get too easily distracted on the iPad, I've had it a couple of days and I do see the appeal, it really disconnects you from the world :) - but now that I again compare them side by side, there is definitely less eye strain on the Kindle, but for me the iPad doesn't cause me headaches of fatigue so it's a less important benefit.
I've been using mini 6 for over a year and I love it! I take it with me every day to university and it helped me reduce paper usage to almost zero. I don't loose notes anymore and I don't collect tons of dusty old printouts. the size is perfect, it fits in my smallest bag and its so light yet pretty powerful. I highly recommend it to any student out there!
I’m a photographer & I bought the mini 6 last year to use mainly for photo editing, and I LOVE IT!! Many ppl told me it would be too small and a waste of money, & tried to convince me to go with the larger iPad Pro. But personally, I love the size & portability of the iPad mini. I own 2 MacBooks and I rarely ever use them anymore because my iPad is just so much more convenient. I highly recommend!
I switched from the 11” Pro to the Mini last year and haven’t looked back. You nailed it with that line about it being the least confusing iPad- I use it all the time (notetaking/task manager) and it’s with me pretty much everywhere. So pleased to hear you’ve been enjoying it too 😊
I've been using one for a year, and I can't stop reccomending this to everyone. Easy to carry to the office everyday, Pencil lets me do design stuff, notetaking, a little screen to show some products or projects to customers quickly. I always say it I HAVE TROUBLE PUTTING IT DOWN. I'm glad my boss see the results of using it as a work tool and not thinking im using a toy to get distracted...
I've been using mine for over a year primarily as a digital planner. I create my own digital notebooks in Keynote and use them in Goodnotes. It's a convenient size to take with me when compared to the iPad Air I had before. It's also a comfortable size for gaming on, and I love it for watching RU-vid, and playing workout videos. I've had a few iPads now, including the Pro, and this is by far my favorite one.
Like you I have access to the entire range of iPads for software development and testing. I struggle to find where the iPad fits into my personal workflow with how good and light the M series of MacBooks are. The iPad Mini does offer a good amount of flexibility and now that I am traveling constantly again, I just take my iPad mini for entertainment (movies, tv, book consumption) and my MacBook or Surface device depending on the client. It offers just enough and it fits in everything. Really great device.
I bought an iPad mini about a month ago, with the idea of accompanying/supplementing my 12.9” iPad Pro-the 2nd gen from 2017. I thought of the mini as being a way of getting into some of the more recent iPad features without spending too much. Oh. My. Goodness, is this thing awesome! Yes, it serves as a great little sidekick to my 12.9, which I still use when I need the big screen… but this mini increasingly my go-to device for most everything else! I use it for videos/TV watching, light email, and even recording audio since the USB-C lets me easily plug in an audio interface. It’s just-right size is absolutely perfect for note taking, lesson planning (I work in higher ed), and all kinds of other stuff. I’m doing more universal control stuff as well via my MacBook, and it’s all smooth as butter. Really loving this thing!
I sold my 2018 iPad Pro for the mini and I don't regret it at all ! the form factor on the mini is perfect and so confortable to hold. Really a good choice if you want a portable device that follows you everywhere.
I use both the iPad Pro 11 for work and the mini for pleasure. I used to watch everything on my phone, but for about a few months now I’ve noticed I usually reach for the mini instead. I originally bought it for reading as I’ve found I don’t like reading Kindle on my phone, but now it’s pretty much become my go to for entertainment (watch, read, or play).
I LOVE my iPad Mini 6. I originally got it for taking with me on long motorcycle trips to watch videos and upload photos, but it quickly turned into part of my everyday carry items. It's my digital planner, note-taker, and preferred device for reading books on Apple Books or Kindle or just scrolling social media. As for updates, I do agree that better battery life would be nice, but I don't really miss not having a stage manager on the mini, and not having face recognition isn't a biggie either for me. I also have the iPad Air, and it's my device for heavier tasks, but honestly, if the task is too heavy for the mini, it usually ends up being something I go to my Macbook for anyway. I'm glad to hear you've come to love the mini, it's a great device, and whenever Apple does decide to upgrade it I'm sure I'll be upgrading mine, but in the meantime, it's working just perfect for what I bought it for. I do wish I'd purchased the model with cell service instead of wifi only, but even that's not been much of a hindrance to me as I have my phone for a hotspot on the rare occasions when there is no wifi available.
It's my first iPad so I'm biased in that regard but the iPad Mini 6 is just absolutely wonderful. It's got everything I need it to and the amount I read now, either comics or books has increased massively. There's nothing major they need to do to improve the device itself because it's a general use device and has no reason to reach over into other device's niches because it has its own as a regular day to day device. Did I pay a lot for what is now essentially a reading device? Absolutely. Would I do it again? Probably yes but until this is no longer supported by Apple, I have no reason to not keep using it. It's got a perfect form factor and the screen is really good for what I need it for. I don't care about jelly screen at all because I don't often see that.
I recently switched from the iPad pro 11 inch to the mini 6. Really liking it so far. It's just so much easier to use. The larger ipad wants to be a computer replacement but it just isn't yet.
I use my iPad mini for everything, to watch this video, watch tv at work (I work in a very lenient field). Digital reading is absolute Aces on this thing. Reading comics, webtoons, manga, etc is fantastic on this thing. I watch a lot of RU-vid videos to be able to learn new things and the mini is perfect for when I’m doing it away from home. I stand so hard by the mini that I’m trying to get one for my sister for her chrome cast. She is also an avid reader so this would be perfect for her and her schooling. Edit: this is just a me thing, but it fits in 90% of my purses that’s easily the biggest sell for a lot of people
Just got mine in the mail today. ru-vid.comUgkxhcEDB3r-OJ3_X5hQzr7k1ZofTQy1ao_U The corners of the box was a little smashed but I think that’s more of the shipping’s fault. iPad was in perfect condition though. I ordered the yellow one thinking it was going to be a bright vibrant color. Instead I looks like more of a Gold color. I personally prefer the gold look. Definitely not disappointed but just a heads up to the ones expecting a brighter cream of yellow.
I went from M1 11 Pro to a mini a few weeks ago. Wow I have been using it sooo much more for comics and content consumption. The size is amazing to travel with.
i made a video about swapping from the ipad pro to the ipad mini on a whim. That video popped off. People LOVE the mini 6, as do I. Easily said, the iPad Mini isn't trying to be anything other than a tiny iPad/Tablet, and it does the job perfectly.
Well guess who bought an iPad mini yesterday for a more comfortable book reader 😅 love your videos as always, your perspective is always unmatched. Thank you!
I came from a Pro and I was afraid I’d miss all the little perks like better speakers and ProMotion, but I didn’t. And I love the form factor. It’s now my main device at home. I browse, watch, play on it and it’s fantastic.
Im using my mini 6 mostly for gaming and media consumption. Some of my videos are even edited just here on this mini 6. It saves my 14 pro max from being overused and my ipad pro 12.9 is just too heavy and huge to bring with everywhere. Gaming on this device is sooo much fun as it doesnt heat up like most fone does.
I pad mini 6th generation has the A15 chip. It's definitely still worth buying if you are just using it for at home use. Plus it's on sale at target now for 399.
Great video as always. I moved up from an iPad Mini 5 so the Mini 6 was an easy sell when it released, for all of the reasons you cited in this video. This is the perfect content consumption device, and not a laptop, desktop, or iPad Pro replacement.
I use my Mini in my Music classroom everyday. I use it for my presentations, teaching, playing music, everything. I love that I can walk around my classroom and teach and not worry about it being to large for me!
I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max. I had the iPad Pro 12.9 for my daily driver for a few years. I found myself using it less and less as the days went by. It was becoming a $1,200 paper weight in my desk, and I hated that. My wife, who is a digital artist had a really old iPad Air that she did all of her art with, and it was in horrible shape. So I said screw it. I gave her my iPad Pro, and I went to go buy the Mini 6th gen. I was really nervous of the form factor at first. It was incredibly small. But it grew on me. The more I found myself using it, the more I fell in love with the device. This was about a month ago, and I haven’t left my house without it, or gone a day without using it. I’ve been leaving my phone at home more often, and only taking my Mini and my Apple Watch Ultra for cellular use. I've been using my iPad as a little travel sketchbook, a kindle, a web browser, media consumption, game player, etc. And the best part? It can all fit in my pants pocket, or a small bag. It's such an incredible piece of tech, and I have zero regrets of buying one in 2023. I will only own a Mini iPad from here on out. Currently watching on my iPad Mini 6.
I bought an Ipad mini after switch between several tablets that I felt were just too impractical to be carrying around. I felt as though if I was carrying a device of that size (10-12 in) I would rather just take my MBA. I realized I just wanted something small, portable and only for casual use. I use it to read, read guitar tabs, watch youtube, take notes etc. It has definitely made me more productive in my personal life, and thats what I wanted since my MBA is really designated for work.
I also have an iPad Mini. It is my favorite iPad. I have a 12.9 M2 Pro as well. It is my primary knowledge capture and reading, and note-taking device. I am never without it. To tell the truth, I answer the phone with it more often than I use the iPhone. I can’t wait for a new version of the iPad mini. Back in the day, people used to carry something called a “Commonplace Book.” A commonplace book is a personal compilation of knowledge, ideas, observations, and quotations. It is a notebook or journal where people record and collect information that they find interesting, useful, or inspiring. The concept of a commonplace book dates back several centuries and has been practiced by many notable individuals throughout history, including writers, philosophers, scientists, and thinkers. The iPad mini is my digital version of a commonplace book. I keep mine in a leather book cover that also holds my Apple Pencil. It is perfect for writing down notes while sitting in a dimly lit bar sipping on a nice scotch or chianti. It never runs out of paper. If you get it with WiFi+Cellular, you almost don’t need a phone. Just add a VOIP plan from Vonage or someone, even SKYPE. I highly recommend the iPad mini.
Thank soo much for sharing. I gave away my pro for an I pad mini and never went back. Luv the convenience of it, I bought my son one bc he does sketches and I bought him a mini with 64 gb with cellular and he luvs it. I do basic stuff with my mini . Can’t go wrong 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Actually I prefer the touch ID over face ID for iPads.. AND the feature that still only available on iPad mini, the volume button that changes with the way you're holding your iPad! So easy! When I'm on the pro and lost direction in which way I'm holding the iPad, I always press the wrong button.
So far, it’s been the best purchase I’ve ever made. I’ve been constantly using it for work and everyday life, to the point it could sometimes replace my phone.
Bought mine back in November 2021, it has never disappointed. It is more of a consumption device but can still help in content creation as people say. Nowadays goes on sale for a decent price, the size of the tablet is perfect for a secondary computing device
After using the 11inch iPad Pro 2nd gen, I have grew tired of the size and found it too big for carrying around, Got my mini 6 few weeks ago and loving it so far, so easy to hold onto mini for media consumption and gaming.
My iPad Mini 6 is my most used device. I use it more than my iPhone 14 Pro Max because it’s an all round more useful device. Besides internal upgrades I wish Apple would put a more advanced camera system in it because it’s slightly bigger than an iPhone Pro Max yet small enough to use for some photography and videography. Maybe a 1/2” to 1” 20MP sensor with 6k video.
As a Graphic Designer and someone who had an iPad Pro since the first generation. The iPad Mini might very well be my favorite of all time so far. It has quickly become my every day companion. When you are doing actual professional work you aren’t really going to use your iPad anyways…at least in my experience. As an on-the-go sketchbook, note taking, and scheduling device this thing really SHINES.
I just bought one 4 weeks exactly and this ipad mini for me it’s a game changer, for me it’s a nice fit on my living routine. Gym, work and personal stuff it’s the best also very easy to handle
I have to say I love mine.. I had the 12 pro and I gave that to my daughter.. I have to say it should have had a 128 g available but I got the 64 g and I don’t have a issue at all. I should have done this a year ago
I have a mini 5 that I take basically everywhere. It’s just convenient in meetings, the gym, or even sitting scrolling on the couch. It’s so much lighter than other models which makes it a solid overall option.
I got one as a media device note taker and organizer but I find myself trying to use it more often than not. However, I love using it for the little stuff like light room notes RU-vid and other streamers, off days and holidays, reading books and comics. It's not necessary for sure but if you want a bigger device than a phone but not a full laptop the mini is a solid bet
I love my mini! I get comments about it all the time and everyone always asks about it. I primarily use mine for flying my drone as a commercial pilot! It is better than a phone out in the field and it fits in a jacket pocket to get me out there!
I LOVE my Mini 6. I’ve heard it described as a “Swiss Army Knife” in a number of reviews, and I have to agree. I can leave my phone in the other room for a while and know I have everything I need on just that one device to make progress with my art, writing, and lesson planning. I use it for my day planner, non-distracting communication, music and books libraries, story development, digital notebooks, teaching apps, a sketchbook, and social media management. I use it in the classroom on a regular basis for teaching, and it’s light to carry while being easy to mirror to the TV so the whole class can see it. I can scan students’ work on the fly and give rapid feedback on things they’ve got questions about by drawing over the scan. It also fits into bags any other size iPad wouldn’t, so it can go with me pretty much anywhere. Yep! Had it a while now, and am extremely happy with it.
I love the iPad mini for these reasons you did not mention. - it is the form factor size I think a true tablet should be. It’s not massively cumbersome and it’s not trying to compete with my laptop. I don’t have to feel like I’m carrying textbooks in my backpack with the two of them together. - it is still a larger and better experience than my phone which doesn’t have the capabilities of iPadOS. Also I don’t like to have to deal with fumbling with a large brick in one hand with a phone that large or sacrifice both hands to use a phone. - it has all of the features a tablet should need. The features you mentioned on the iPad pros are EXTREMELY niche and I highly doubt they’re used by anyone else. And not to mention many of those features are already done better on a laptop.
Only thing I need is better battery life. It doesn’t last a work day of use on a single charge. And I don’t expect it to. I think that would be an improvement every user would enjoy.
Nixed my iphone almost ten years ago and have used the mini as my phone for all those years through skype. I live in Tokyo and it is perfect to pull out on the train and all the other reasons stated in your video.
It’s a little sketchbook for me. Once I hit the layer limit in procreate, I’ll air drop it on the pro and continue there. The RAM as you said is the bottle neck, but to be fair the mini is not an all in one pro machine. It’s too small. And I find it too small for some of my animation apps. But the iPad Pro is too big to always be with me everywhere I go. So having two iPads is just the better way to go. The Jelly scrolling isn’t bad, but honestly it’s more visible than the refresh rate. If the people on RU-vid weren’t whining about it all the time I would. Them exaggerating the situation kinda made me think it’s not THAT bad.
Totally agree Tom. I traded my air for a mini last year and haven't looked back. I find it easier to read on, can carry it in a smaller sling when I go out, and I use it as another monitor with sidecar.
as a disabled person one of the things I hate about my ipad air 5, and will probably lead me to get rid of it, is how heavy it is. among other body parts, my right arm has chronic pain issues and holding the tablet gets really tiring and I think I'm going to exchange it for the mini because it's much lighter, but still much more roomy than my phone and easier to use for a lot of tasks.
I have the Mini 5 and it is still a great little device. It is the sweet spot between a phone screen and a laptop. This is even more useful as I've gotten older. It has all of my daily admin, notes, kindle app, and Facetime. Maybe I'll update with the 7th gen.
Things I have learnt after watching a dozen+ RU-vid videos about how the iPad mini is the iPad to buy in 2023… I have much bigger hands than most RU-vidrs.
I got this iPad mini and i liked it but I didn’t keep it due to the lack of Face ID. It also needs a brighter screen and long battery life. If they fix those issues, I would buy it again.
My company's currently in the process of transitioning to remote management of all personal devices which utilize company resources, and so my iPad is about to lose access to all that stuff (because you can RMM my personal stuff approximately never). I'm seriously considering getting an iPad mini for mostly note taking purposes and keeping it separate from my personal accounts, just because I know I'm going to miss taking notes on my iPad so much. It seems such a great device for that stuff.
For me, I don't use it as something to edit with, but I do use it for music work, such as a metronome, teaching music, remote control to help control audio related apps on my computer, like making headphone mixes, and control digital mixers via WiFi. I also started reading more through the mini. Having the mini is more than enough for me. I did have the mini 3 for the longest time, but there are apps that I needed for work that needed iOS 14 or above to work. Not only that, it was also three generations behind. When I tried to transfer from iPad to iPad, it was too outdated to let me transfer, so I transferred from my phone LOL.
I have this iPad and a 12.9 iPad Pro. I do most of my photo editing and video editing on my pro. But I grab this iPad mini most of the time. It’s my go to for most things. I take this iPad 9 out of 10 times before I take my iPad Pro anywhere. I’ve had it for about a year now.
Damnit Tom. GOD DAMNIT!. Time to sell the iPad. I almost bought the original mini specifically for drone work. The screen would have been the perfect size.
After buying my macbook air m1 (5k reais) I gave up on the idea of spending more than 5k Reais (more than 1200 USD) to buy the ipad mini 64gb. I won't spend this money to take notes, I can do that on a paper haha and with the mac air being so lightweight, is very handy to use. Perhaps if in Brazil the apple products wasn't so freaking expensive I could try one of those. Great review tho. The quality of your videos is amazing. Keep it up!
I love the mini for all the things that you mentioned plus music. I use the 10 th gen for sheet music, and Pro for all it's functions... Hope they update the mini soon.
It’s worth of it, used it for 6mths and I beat the shit out of it. Netflix RU-vid is fine… and daily usage. Battery is solid ,ofcos if u want better display go for macbook . The only iPad I can hold with one hand in an hour without feeling tired
I’m a pilot and every pilot I know uses this I’m about to upgrade from the first gen iPad to this or the pro still deciding if I want the small compact style for small cockpit or just stick with the big size so I can still take notes and use keyboard while in normal class
My message will sound critical but it is mostly kind. I'm sure you are honest but I'm amused that all the tech sites seem to be discovering the value of the iPad mini only in 2023. I can even tell you that everything that is discovered with the ipad mini 6 was already true with the previous models. No doubt that tech sites should really remember that by being omnubilated by performance and novelty, they forget the uses of real people. You (tech reviewers) don't use products for months or years, you don't know what it's like to use products over time. You are in the idea of more=better and you only value oversized and expensive products. I am a user of an iphone 13 mini because I hate big smartphones. Before, for 6 years, I had a 2016 SE. And I have an iPad Mini as a supplement. I think these two products are the best from Apple. And I could add the SE 2022 so hated by tech reviewers. Products are tools that should serve a purpose, not "spec lists" where the average is always denigrated.
My only hesitation to buy this besides being a 2 year product, the icons layout on the homescreen is very badly designed and not utilizing the unique size. My eyes are not the best being older, so I feel they should have made a much better layout (size and positioning). I will wait for the next release. My other hestiation is using Procreate to make my art, it might be sluggish when there are many layers created. The iPad Pro 12.9" that I have runs very hot, so I can imagine maybe will be a bit much of the ipad Mini.
I appreciate your take on the mini, and agree the base memory needs to be scaled way up or a mid range option offered. I have read that the airline industry uses iPads heavily, cabin staff and a lot of pilots.
Two months ago, when I saw the popularity videos coming out, I was able to buy a "nice" used iPad mini 6 with a cracked screen for about $200. A glass screen protector 'fixed' the crack issue... Seems like everyone want one now, and I don't think you can find one for less than $350! I have a full sized iPad that I never use, an iMac desktop that is my main machine, and a nice MacBook for portability, when needed. But, along with the pen, I love the mini for mobile content consumption, much more convenient than my iPhone. Everything ties to gather nicely. My biggest complaint is that it is difficult to know all the capabilities of the entire ecosystem, and even most of the books don't provide the full reference needed for the mini. I hope that Apple realizes what they've unleashed in the iPad mini 6. I think they are overpriced, new. But, if Apple could figure out how to price them at $200, I think they would have a blockbuster that would still be profitable.
i really wanted to like this one, i went to best buy to play with it and i dont know it the store model is maybe bloated or something but it was laggy, the animations where not smooth or anything so i bailed on it
lol just bought one from Target for $300, IDK if its worth it at $500 but at $300 I think it will serve me well enough for media and reading. If I needed to be productive I have my MacBook.
I have the iPad mini 6, 11" Pro and 12.9" Pro. What I find is that I take the mini with me into the office 2 times a week. It does all I need it to do for that. The Pro's are a bit too heavy although the 11' is not too bad. I agree with your comments re the battery on the mini and have had to start taking in a charger to the office. Btw, do you use a case on your mini? Or screen protector? Thanks
I'm reall struggling to find a use for mine. As soon as I dropped down to the mno from the slightly bigger one with the magic keyboard it just no longer has any usecase for me other than offline netflix. For now it's an overpriced Mevo cam controller for me.
