I've configured a focus mode on my iPad mini. After 9.30pm all apps disappear from my home screen except Bookfusion. Also all notifications are silenced, so a completely distraction free device. The same happens when I open the Bookfusion app. When I open that app, my whole iPad transforms in to a reading only device :) Or... and this is the best one... I have a shortcut configured that turns off all the lights in the house, except my night lamp that gets dimmed. After that the iPad starts some background reading music, sets the volume and brightness really low and start the Bookfusion app. I love reading on the iPad mini ;)

Hi, love the video and i use both for reading, the kindle signature for books and specially manga on the mini. There are two things that will transform the mini on the best e reader that I have ever experience: 1. Put on a good Paperlike screen protector matte, and 2. On the accesibility settings, turn on the "reduce white point" and put it on the center control. Then with just one click you will really transform to iPad from iPad mode to kind of e reader mode. If you also create a "Reader" profile on the mini that will turn off all notifications, you will have the best e-reader today. Thats my tips, best regards!

if you really want to stop yourself from getting distracted you can lock your ipad in a chosen app with an activation code. so no more easy swipe up and leave the app. i suppose this is meant as a child protection so you can feed them youtube kids and they cant get out

I’ve been exclusively purchasing the iPad mini since the gen two model. When I first purchased it YEARS ago I bought it just to read. Then I continued upgrading to the 5th gen. When the 6th gen was announced I was SOOO excited lol I bought it of course right after launch and absolutely LOVED it! Anyways my point is that I used that as my reading device almost exclusively and of course for media consumption and scrolling the web. I then had major eye fatigue and decided to buy a Kindle Paperwhite SE. It was the best decision I’ve made and now I JUST read on my Kindle with KU and don’t regret it one bit. Okay I’m done with my rant hahaha 😅

I’m an Apple girl. Have been for years and years BUT you can’t use an Apple device outdoors. I can almost read comfortably on an Amazon Fire on my balcony but none of them compare with a Kindle Paperwhite. I can sit in the direct sunlight and still read clearly. The day I received my Kindle, I took the four devices out on my balcony and did a comparison. Kindle won…hands down. 20:28 I’m an avid reader so I have to charge my Kindle about every 7-8 days for maybe an hour. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I just wish the Kindle screensaver was in color. Books have such beautiful covers. I’d like to enjoy them.

My eye doctor praised me on using a Kindle for reading. He said that the Kindle (paperwhite) is the best device for reading on and is even better than reading an actual book because of being able to change the font size. He said that he recommends the Kindle to everyone. However.. That being said, I have both a Kindle and an iPad Mini. The same reason as you, I can use multiple reading sites on the iPad. I have all my iPad notifications turned off and I never ever use my iPad mini for anything other than reading. Just never have.I bought it for the purpose of reading and that’s all I use it for. I keep my iPad on dark mode and bought a matte screen protector so that helps. My favorite is the Kindle. It’s just smaller to carry around, lighter, battery lasts forever and easier on the eyes.

As a previous owner of several ereaders - many different versions of Kindles and even the Nook - I have settled on the iPad mini as my device of choice for all of the Pros you mentioned. I agree that it is not ideal for reading outside, but then I just go old school and read a physical book. 😂 I also like having a choice of where I purchase my books and not be limited to just Amazon. Great video!

If I needed a portable mini computer I would only purchase the iPad Mini. If it's only for reading hands down the Paperwhite is it for me. I have both. I take my paperwhite around town but if I travel I take iPad. I also use my android phone when I forget my paperwhite and I'm having to wait in line for something. You do an excellent job. Thank you for sharing.

i use both ipad mini and kindle for few years now. I have no complaints on the portability of an ipad mini (i literally rely on this tablet a lot daily), even for the purpose of short time reading. thus for longer hours of reading especially during traveling purposes, i choose the kindle over the ipad mini. i consider the blue light factor from ipad mini caused an exhaustion on my eyes in long hours use.
@scribsandskets1179

probably in the minority on this but I've had both and just end up going with the iPad 99% of the time. Not even the Mini, I have the 11" version (though I've heavily considered switching to the Mini for the portability). The biggest factors for me are comics (self explanatory) and snappiness of the UI. The slowness of the kindle pains me. My eyes aren't the best and I often make changes to brightness, font size and background depending on lighting conditions or how tired I am and it's glacial on the kindle. I don't have a ton of apps on my iPad so it's never really a distraction. When the UI gets out of my way, it makes it easier to jump in. I also like annotating on Apple Books using the pencil.

I’m, unfortunately, gradually falling out of love with my Kindle. The way we’re not the real owners of the books we buy is inconceivable. Actually, we don’t even totes own our devices, since we have to send to Amazon our DRM free epubs for them to convert and add to our library, not to mention the poor and few customisation tools… I’d love to have a pocketbook e-reader, but in my country we can only find Kindles and the import fees are too expensive to consider any other device. So, I’ve been reading more and more on my IPad mini lately and a matte magnetic screen protector is doing the trick fairly well to minimise the glare. I also turn on the “focus” mode to avoid most of the distractions. And that’s it! The practicality won, after all. And the freedom of reading from multiple sources, besides Amazon, is simply great. Seriously, I’m only reading on my Kindle the books I can’t find anywhere else and have to buy from Amazon, but I’m quite sure this will be my last Kindle, if they don’t change their policy… drastically, since I can have my kindle library on the app.

Just check out books from Libby instead. No one owns digital anything anymore. If you want to own books…buy paper books. (I feel your pain. I’m not trying to justify Amazon policies but it’s the same in all digital media these days unfortunately .)

i used a super old ipad mini from 2014 as an ereader for about a year and a half until i bought a kobo ereader in around october last year. at the time i just didn't want to buy a new device and found the old ipad in my parents' house and it did the job for the time being! the glare on the screen was horrible though, along with the battery (when i was reading a lot in one day i'd have to charge it in the middle of the day though that's also because it was such an old device). also, i found the weight to be a bit too much when trying to read one handed. it's not super heavy by any means, but definitely past the point of comfortable. getting my kobo was the best decision i made for my reading

Thanks for this compare video. I mainly use my paperwhite for reading and my iphone for audiobooks in the car. I have a regular iPad but rarely read on it unless there are illustrations or pictures in the book, for example some cookbooks.

Many technical books won’t load into a Kindle Reader, but will load via the iPad Kindle app. A book’s color graphics will appear perfectly via the iPad Kindle app, but will appear in black and white on a Kindle Reader. The same holds true for magazines and comic books. No comparison whatsoever. Also, quite often, the Kindle Reader won’t do as good a job with the page layout for magazines and comic books. So, for versatility and overall quality, the iPad is far better. If you’re reading a text-only, equation-less book, the Kindle Reader is outstanding.

I have a regular iPad 9th gen and just got a Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition on sale a week ago. I’ve tried many times to read on an iPad and a Kindle Fire I used to have but no matter the screen settings including night shift, my eyes start to strain very quickly. The Paperwhite is a wonderful device! In fact this new one is a replacement because my old PW stopped working for some reason after a few years. My opinion after reading on all different types of screens and devices, if books are your friend or you want them to be, get a Kindle. $100 or more too steep? Wait for a sale and/or get the basic Kindle. Has the same screen as the Paperwhite but just a bit smaller as well as being more portable due to its size. It doesn’t have a warm light but it is backlit beautifully for night reading. Like Dylan says if Amazon is not to your liking, go with a Kobo reader. Their screens are just as sharp and have a few features that may interest you.

iPad mini for the win if you solely use it as an ereader. If you use it as your sole tablet, pick up a kindle. Sure I like reading next to the pool every now and then but 98% of my reading is done indoors. With battery saver mode on the only app open being kindle, the battery on iPad mini lasts days without a charge.

Considering im upgrading from the second gen Kobo from literally forever ago, the kindle paperwhite is doing phenomenally well in the speed department lol. For the price, and if you like to read, its an essential tool imo. I haven't read much in years since my kobo had started to work up and the ipad was a pain to use (not a mini) literally so when my friend showed me theirs I decided to get one. Best choice already eyeballs deep in a new book she suggested :D

I have both iPad mini and kindle. I tend to use my iPad mini a lot more, however, I read mostly at night. I’ve never found the screen hurting my eyes (I also work on a computer 50-60hrs/week) but I have the settings to heavily warm light filtered and I read dark mode on the quiet settings in the iBooks app. I find my kindle just isn’t easier on the eyes for night time in the dark reading, I know the screen is not OLED however the brightness of the kindle just strains my eyes over all trying to read in the dark vs my iPad mini where the dark mode is actually dark. That being said, unless I’m going on vacation I will take my kindle to read on the go, it stays in my purse and I’m perfectly happy with that. I really dislike kindles OS, it’s clunky and honestly a pain when I’m trying to send my owned epub library to it. I don’t like the kindles library filtering, grouping or visuals which is probably another reason it’s used solely for on the go reading or reading outside. When it’s nice out, I do like reading outside and it’s with no question the iPad mini does not fair well with that, for one the battery life and for two if it’s hot out the iPad will over heat due to the sun (reading by the pool anyone?). Anyways, I love my iPad mini but I also love my kindle for specific use. Edit: To add what others have mentioned, you can put your iPad into quiet mode. Personally I’ve never been tempted to do other things on it, maybe because I work on the computer all day lol. Also you can put a matte glass screen protector on it too which is how I have mine set up 😊

I REALLY wanted to switch to the Kobo color but the Kindle Ecosystem owns me lol. I love being able to read on my paperwhite, and then I can switch over to my phone to add some notes to my highlights, and then I get on audible and it keeps my place. PLUS when you buy a kindle book it lets you bundle the audiobook and it's a STEEP discount on the audiobook!

I love the e-ink display. I've got vision issues due to MS and the display on the kindle is a lot easier on my eyes compared to a backlit display. I also like being able to read in the daylight if I want to or read at night and not mess with my sleep pattern. I've charged it just a few times since having it, that alone makes it feel less like an electronic device and more like an actual book to me. In that way, I also love that I can adjust the font size, something I can't do with a book (and I'm someone who loves books). The kindle has freed me from having to carry my reading glasses everywhere. I don't like being stuck in one ecosystem is my only complaint, but other than that I love the kindle. I have an ipad and get way to distracted.

With the kindle app I was able to change the layout color that gives you options from cream , sage , black or white . I’m able to adjust the lighting. I do like the fact on my iPad that I can spilt the screen to take notes on one screen and keep reading on the other screen.

I have an old, big ipad and am on the fence about getting a mini vs a kindle, basically deciding if i really need all the features of an ipad with apple pencil still or if I can simplify and prioritize reading with a kindle. This was super helpful! I wouldn't get an ipad if I was *only* going to use it as a reader. I'd be paying for so many features and not using them, in my opinion.

I think you get a great reading experience on it, but I have two Kindles which I would rather read on. When reading books or magazines with photos that have color I use the Samsung. I read mostlly novels so the Kindle gets the most use. I will say that I wish some of the features of the Kindle App were incorporated into the Kindle ereader. Don't know if it possible. I love the page turns on the Kindle App. It's like turning a real page.

Problem I have with the iPad is that I have a cellphone already... I don't need a tablet that does the exact same job as my phone, but with 0.4 inch more screen size... The Kindle is a different beast. Better battery life, no eye fatigue, no distractions, better outdoors and way cheaper (so I can throw it around & in/out of my bag without being scared of breaking it... And if it does break, it costs almost nothing to buy another one).

Kindle Oasis > iPad Mini > Kindle Paperwhite. That's my opinion on this. The Oasis is a really good purpose built device that makes the kindle limitations worth it, but the paperwhite is just not worth it. I bought a paperwhite before I bought my oasis, and I never touched it, but now I carry my Oasis everywhere. Now that the Oasis is dead, I would definitely be looking outside of the Kindle ecosystem if I were in the market for a dedicated ereader.
