I always assumed the strip where we placed our Pencils was magnetic: It is definitely not. - The strip is 2.25mm long. Magnets at each end of that strip on the iPad attract and match up with those on the body of the Apple Pencil 2nd Gen. - Pencil to iPad starts the charging. With the front (FaceTime) camera relocated there, the magnets were moved a bit more apart further on the iPads of 2024. So they moved the magnets the same distance on the Apple Pencil Pro. - Pencil to iPad starts the charging, yes! Like a lot of artists and others, I was diss-appointed that the Pro pencil is only for the 2024 iPads. Since then, I’ve watched pencil teardowns. Daydreaming ways around the charging. Questions: - Do both pencils use Bluetooth? - Are the new pencil features only possible because of the M4 chip? - Is the Apple Pencil Pro charging only possible on the iPad? - Is it possible, one might charge it like the magsafe or an external adapter, etc? - If the charging can be solved and not M4 chip dependent, what else? -- maybe the tap to connect? -- maybe iPadOS? -- Apple’s reluctance to pursue? -- Apple’s unwillingness to allow developers to pursue alternatives? Buying such a high priced device is choice. But, Apple seems to be delusional or miscalculating, not clear-minded enough to sense that they may soon be at a price at which people won’t bite. No telling what happens June 7.
