What puts me off is how heavy the Magic Keyboard makes the 12.9. I take my iPad with me all the time (in the Smart Keyboard Folio) and with the Magic Keyboard I could see me leaving it at home more. Plus I wouldn’t like using it in tablet mode completely unprotected.
I have the magic keyboard and the Logitech keyboard and keep coming back to the magic keyboard when using it solo. The floating screen and viewing angle is what keeps me using this over the Logitech; however, I am not using this case as much in conjunction with my macbook since universal control
Just bought Typecase Edge - Magic Keyboard clone for less than $150 but did not know it is bit heavy than Magic Keyboard BUT the keyboard typing experience is awesome. I looked at your video I realized mouse gesture are not the same. I guess I have to get used to heavy to carry around.. Your review is good and thanks for sharing.
Good info for the durability of the magic keyboard. I have 2017 12.9 iPad Pro , I also have the Smart Keyboard with it. However, the keyboard easily get broken and not detectable. I am so frustrated, I have 2 of those keyboards, but keep broken down. So I wonder how durability of this magic keyboard for $350 dollars.
I agree with most things except 2: I use my magic keyboard for better typing, not to make my iPad a laptop replacement (iPadOS is too limited). The key feel is definitely not identical to the Mac Magic Keyboards, the difference is noticeable, and the iPad one is quite a bit better. It's not so much a matter of travel, but of different key feel. The Mac magic keyboard is fine, but makes me miss a good pc keyboard like the thinkpad ones, not the IPad magic keyboard, which while still not as good, is so good that I am perfectly fine with it...
The keyboard is a great product with its own flaws. The material near the edge of the main hinge in prone to permanent snags if the keyboard is over dropped or impacted those areas.
Fernando a great review. I still have my 2018 12.9 “ iPad Pro purchased when they first came out. I purchased the Magic Key Board very soon after the original purchase. I really like the keyboard, but one day it just stopped working a couple of years ago. I bought a WISFOX KEYBOARD (cheap) and still use it everyday with my 2018 iPad. Just bought 2 new 2020 MacBook Air units with the Magic Keyboard, which made more sense to me. Magic Keyboard is awesome, but what is your mission is important to know.
I am surprised you have had no other issues with the connectivity of the magic keyboard. I had to change out my Smart Keyboard twice (once every 6 months) because the connector would no longer work and the iPad wasn’t detecting the keyboard. Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t the magic keyboard use the same connector as the Smart Keyboard?
I’m strongly considering swapping my Air M2 for the 12.9 Pro with Magic Keyboard. Do you consider it a heavy unit for a daily driver? I’m using for on the go uni course work, docs, reading texts, & media consumption
Oh yes you should get rid of Air if it doesn’t have M1 or M2 chip in it then get iPad Pro any size you like with Magic Keyboard it is very portable to carry around. Trust me you won’t be regret it
Hey ‘Nando 😃 I only bought one Nov 2021 as it was literally 50% off! I do like it and enjoy the trackpad, however in a way, I spent so long with the Smart Keyboard that sometimes I miss that too. Main thing for me though, I really need these light up keys. 👍🏻
Hey Fernando. You said at 0:17 that the Magic Keyboard is probably the most expensive accessory for any product from Apple you could think of. I guess you don't remember the Pro Stand($999.00) for the Apple Pro Display XDR. Or the Apple Mac Pro Wheels Kit($699.00).
Awesome man, just got the white one. It's awesome, however I'm afraid to take it out from the keyboard, it's not protected when I use it to draw. Could you recommend ANY case that is compatible with the magic keyboard and protects the iPad at the same time incase you'd drop it?
hey if you still need some advice, I personally use switcheasy coverbuddy because it’s super thin and it also helps to protect the pencil, you can also get the moft snap case if you’re looking for more versatility since you can pair it with other moft accessories

I hadn't thought of this until you mentioned the charging port, but if this was a regular USB or Thunderbolt connector, the Magic Keyboard would be, in effect, a dock. (Especially if it provided another port.) That would make it worth the money for more people. I'm happy to hear that the device has good durability, but I'm going to stick to my Smart keyboard, which is lighter and more functional for someone who doesn't relay on their iPad as a computer.
I 100% agree, if apple can give us just a bit more function from the magic keyboard then it will help people justify purchasing it. I loved the slim folio case. I still own it!
Yes, no Apple fan can deny that. However, if you keep your iPad for say five years I believe it is a great investment especially if you do a lot of typing. I have tried the alternatives but it is the best and I do not regret the investment. However, if you are not typing a lot (1000's of words a day like me) then cheaper alternatives are there; the advantage of Apple, try and get a different attachable Tab S7+ keyboard (no backlit keys).
@@andyH_England I love my Logitech keyboard that can flick between 3 devices. Had the 1st magic keyboard and it died within a year $AUD400. I get that this is better but it’s a no from me.
