I am a professional photographer for the past 40 years. The transition to digital, then the transition to workflow from desktop to lap top and now the past 2 years on iPad Pro. Love your video. Our processes are somewhat similar to get to the end product. I use cloud storage as well as Adobe CC storage and 2 sandisk’s 1tb storage. Great job promoting a new way to have a workflow more integral, more organic with a better sense of hands on. Fun to find your channel.

Since both of you are photographers, if I import a raw photo that's around 50 mb and start editing it on my ipad, how can I export it to keep it around 24 mb from lightroom mobile?

Ciao Aaron first of all congrats for you video, it's very well done and Clear! Just one thing on the output and storage of your edited files: How do you save and store all your edited pictures? Once your storage on the ipad will finish how can you save all your works? Do you export on SSD as DNG the LR files?

Hi Aaron, how do you deal with filling the Adobe cloud storage? My understanding is that if you import into lightroom on the ipad, it auto uploads to the Adobe cloud? I feel like that will fill up pretty quick with a couple of trips/sessions.

Awesome video, I think it is great that you have found a way to incorporate an iPad as your main workflow tool despite having to pay for Adobes monthly fee. I have wanted to do this for a long time as I love the idea of working on my iPad. I still have the original Pro which is ageing now and considering purchasing either the 2018, 2019 or latest 2021. Stuck between the 11” and 12.9” and what sized HDD. What would you recommend as the minimum storage space on an iPad when using external SSD’s? Thank you

Apple seem to make it so difficult to connect. You have to use an external device for your sd card etc. instead of being able to insert or connect things directly. Yes, I get it. So you have to buy more expensive things then have to carry them with you so as to do things on the go.

You can add keywords, title, and caption within LR on the iPad. It’s clunky and not great if you have many images. I really wish Adobe would beef this up to make it more powerful.

I’ve been working with Lightroom Classic for years and I’m thinking about moving to CC, so I was curious to watch this video. Unfortunately it didn’t answer the questions I came for. I have 12-14 years of photos in my Lightroom Classic catalog, pretty organized and edited. I wonder how I will accomplish that in CC. This video doesn’t speak at all about how to manage files (other than the very basic importing). Where do you keep your photo archive? Is it on that old laptop? But then they are all unedited, right? Do you use the CC cloud? I think I have too many files to keep them there, so in that case, I need to segment my storage. Maybe just keeping the picks in Lightroom. Also, I’m wondering what you do with your pictures after you’ve edited them. I keep mine in Lightroom, all in one place, but it seems to me like you have files here and there. Where do you keep your picks?
@imaaronross
@imaaronross 3 года назад
This is definitely a different approach. I don't keep a catalog of my edits anymore. I keep my original raws and the final edited jpgs but I delete the edits out of Lightroom once I'm done. It is not something everyone is comfortable with but I realized that I've gone back to previous edits less than 5 times in the 7 years I've been making photos.

Hi Aaron. It´s an interesting workflow, I have not doubt. But, I`d like to make a pair of questions. When you finish your photo, what do you do with the original raw files? And on the other hand, when importing the original raw directly into lightroom, you will be short of the capacity of the adobe cloud. What capacity do you have contracted?. Tks very much Good Job
@imaaronross
@imaaronross 3 года назад
Since I back up the original raw files to my local hard drives and back up to the cloud on Dropbox, I delete them out of Lightroom. As for the adobe cloud, I don't use it. I don't sync anything from the iPad to the cloud so I am not limited by the low storage limits.
@joseluiscanovasliza3555
@joseluiscanovasliza3555 3 года назад
I understand, but forgive me for insisting. You say that once you have the original raw on your local drives and in dropbox, you delete them from lightroom. When you do that double back up, do you do it with all the raw files, or only with the ones you choose to work with in lightroom ?. Currently, when I get home, I empty my card in lightroom classic on the Mac, I synchronize it with the adobe cloud, and later I work the photos on the Ipad. This makes the files I work on on the ipad, the smart thumbnails that lightroom creates, and in this way I do not consume much space in the cloud. but if I'm honest, I'm looking for a system that allows me to work only on the iPad, since after the years, I have realized that in lightroom classic I save a lot of raw files, just in case I ever work on them again, but the truth is that this situation rarely occurs. In short, I seek to minimize the system and the files that I save. That is the reason I have looked at your workflow
@joeyjayguinto7260

hi, Aron. Thanks for this. Do you also use wireless transfer from camera to your ipad using your camera's app? Though this would take a while depending on your files. Have you also considered using a network storage space as your archive like NAS Synology and the likes so won't be needing your old mac? Thank you. Would love to see video of you would edit portraits. :)

Hi Aaron! Thanks for the thorough walkthrough:) I have a question about the export options that I can't seem to find an answer to anywhere: When choosing to export DNG files, what parameters can you adjust, like image size, compatability etc, compared to Lightroom classic? In my work I often need to export batches of DNG files with specific settings, not just fill size DNG. Once again, thank you!
@risa7484
@risa7484 Год назад
None. In fact, when you export as dng, LR exports the photo as Original, so you loose all of your edits sadly. So far, exporting as DNG has been a very frustrating experience on iPad.

Hey Aaron! Two questions: first, do you leave your finished edited shots in creative cloud? If so, how much storage do you pay for? If not, how do you get them out? Two, do your photos go blurry whenever you’re adjusting a slider? I’ve noticed my photos go temporarily blurry while making adjustments and then it “snaps” back to sharp when done. I’ve found this detrimental, particularly when trying to control highlights and contrast.

Really struggling with the 2021 ipad pro 12.9. Transferring JPEG and Raw images directly into the ipad connected to a portable hard drive. Pics transfer no problem but when editing in photoshop express when you tap the Sharpness tool at the end of the process the picture doesn’t zoom in as normal so it’s pretty obvious the JPEGS and RAW files aren’t uploading properly. 50% of the time it works where it takes hours for the full resolution to appear but the other 50% of the time the files just aren’t being transferred fully into the ipad. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Regards, John

I am looking for the same thing. I often start culling on my DSLR by assigning star ratings on the camera. I would like to use those camera-inserted star ratings to determine which photos I import off the SD card. There are many ways to view the images right on the SD card from the iPad, but unless you use an EXIF app and look at the EXIF on each SD card image, I have not found a way to easily see the star ratings on the SD card images. Some of the wildlife and game camera systems , like Moultrie, make simple SD card reader dongles that allow you to quickly review the images on an SD card, but I don;t believe they show star ratings, since the SD cards are coming right out of an automated wild game camera.

Yes, I do all of my editing on the iPad and then airdrop them back to my phone for posting since the Instagram app on the iPad is trash.
