LOL. This comment will last for years. Reminds me of the old poster, "Free beer tomorrow." The free beer will never be today, it will always be tomorrow... I guess the update will always be "today".
“Why does Apple lag behind everyone else?” Show me another high-end tablet that is actually popular. There’s only one thing more annoying than the “iSheep” people, and that’s people who seemingly make “I hate Apple” their entire personality. Get a life tbh.
@@daltonmeredith6790 bruh, what are you talking about? In what way. I’ve been with Apple since iPhone 4 and had a MacBook Air since I was 16. Apple has always been peak at elegance and function. Yes it has flaws in certain areas but you’re making a statement like Apple has always been bad at what it does. Yes they are behind in an aspect but atleast they perfect it to the best it can instead of releasing it with bugs and issues like android.
Looking forward to the improved stage manager since I use it all the time. Also, I either missed it or you didn't cover the new Safari feature that turns a web page into an app. I think that might be a useful update. Maybe that is just a new MacOS feature. Thanks for the great info!
Great walkthrogh Chris! Tons of new features. I appreciate how much time it takes to create these videos. It also demonstrates how versatile the iPad is especially with the new OS.
Nobody explains in so much detail on ipad updates like Chris does 🙏. Most other youtubers dosent explain properly. I learned a lot of ipad from this channel . Thank you Chris as always 🙏
Loved this overview video... I still remember the iPAD OS 16 video and it's nice to see the progression and changes that have occurred especially with stage manager... a feature I stayed struggling with for the past year.
Hi Chris. Great video, as usual! Love the new stage manager and the improvements in the keyboard layout, it’s so much easier to type now. Still gutted about the lack of improvements in the Files App… I was hoping that they would fine tune it in IPad OS 17 and become somehow closer to the Finder for Mac OS. Oh well. Maybe one day!
As a web developer really wish iPad OS had support for localhost and Apache Server.. there are apps but they are clunky and lacking fully access to the system. You could just access a remote server on AwS and probably get something running but it would be really cool to develop offline on my iPad Pro. Also VS Code on iPad would be great too. I still feel the iPad OS is lacking since it’s already over powered with M1 and M2 processing.. really be nice to see the iPad OS getting more robust and more Pro.
anyone have an issue with a regression in iPadOS 17 where the USB-C video output no longer sleeps? it was an issue in Dec 2022 when I got my Dell USB-C monitor and the bug was fixed as of iPadOS 16.6. Unfortunately after upgrading to iPadOS 17 yesterday, it has regressed. I reported it to Apple and wondering if anyone else has this issue. it’s definitely annoying to walk away from my desk and see that my monitor has been on all day or all night!
Perhaps the most surprising thing is that iPad 6th gen (2018) was still qualified to update to iPadOS 17! Apple was already generous to include that older device during the iPadOS 16 update but we thought it would end there. I was pleasantly surprised with Apple's generosity this year.
Most ipad get 5 years of os update Its not a new thing This is the last update for ipad 6 since ipados 16 is supported for ipad 5 but not ipad 17 Ipad 17 require ipad 6th generation and above so likely this is the last update for ipad 6 for sure
The update worked for me, but my Reminders app is still at the normal level. Without different symbols and just 6 colours. Do you know why that could be?
I can’t wait to get my new iPad Pro 12.9” M2 & Apple Pencil ✏️🙌🏾 Monday can’t get here fast enough 😂 thanks for this video yo. I’m not new to ISO, I’m upgrading from my 2016 iPad Pro & Apple Pencil running IOS 16.6 …. But finally 🙌🏾…. I’m heading into flagship baby, So this video will help me out allot. Because wow 🤩
I’m also getting my 12.9 m2 on Monday! Let’s both have a great day! I got a nice Brydge keyboard for 60 bucks because the company is out of business, but I learned it was bought out so it’s still getting support! Normally it’s 250, a great deal!
(3:06) I sure hope macOS style font management, including support for user-installed fonts, is being planned for the next major iPadOS release or the one after that. I can imagine not only setting custom UI fonts, but adding text with user-installed fonts in stuff like Procreate and GoodNotes.
23:42 I believe you can fix the “robotic voice” by going into Settings > Accessibility > Spoken Content > Voices. From here you can download and activate an “enhanced” version of whichever voice you want per language.
Too much stuff… Needlessly complicated. Been using ipads since the first one. I currently have an ipad Pro M1. I find that most of these new features I never use. The idea is to be more productive and efficient and cramming more features on the screen is just another distraction to deal with. Just reading Kindle or playing a game I get notifications popping up. The fact that Apple leaves it to social media to instruct people on how to use them means no one but power users are going to bother learning the gestures and hidden menus. If I need this kind of features I would get a Mac.
This is the best iPad OS update video I have seen. Will watch again because you provided so much content. Based on this video, I will now subscribe. Thank you for all your work.
as a creator who is now growing on youtube, i have been looking for a creator who thoroughly knows the equipment i use, and can help me expand on my knowledge of it. you sir were an instant follow.
iPadOS 17 is the worst update, my iPad and son’s iPad lose wifi network, the tvOS17.2 also, does not connect to the Wifi network; anyone have the same issue, must say this is the most frustrating thing, don’t expect such from Apple.
Still stupid! What Apple needs to do is, what they do best. Copying ideas and make it better! Just copy Samsung “desktop” idea on their tablet. All the tablets have m1-2-etcetera chips processors so there is no limitations. So only thing that they need to ;moment that tablets are connected to external’s monitors maximum 3. There comes the macOS. Easy!! But knowing Apple this will be coming the next 5years because they’re all in for money.
A great overview, thanks! I watched to the end and while I understand your view of Shortcuts (and I agree), the scanning document one will be a HUGE benefit to me 😀. My fave feature has to be the Reminders grocery list 🥕🍎🍍
When it comes to having 4 apps in a grid like you did, is that only for the newer iPads? I’m able to get 4 apps on my iPad Pro 2018’s home screen, but they won’t shrink small enough for a grid, with or without the doc showing. Also, how’s the finder in your doc?
Many thanks for the video👍I have a weird problem with the Today View on iOS 17 iPad 10 - there are two permanent jiggly minus sign bubbles at the top of the view (swipe right from first home screen). They appear behind the top widget/s - I can’t seem to find any videos or info on the most recent Today View- would welcome any ideas !
TL;DR - Are your long list of shortcuts available to the public (free)? Thanks. I was just typing a comment about your list of shortcuts, hit a key by accident, and it disappeared. If you come across an unfinished comment by me, please let me know (I'm not real savvy about comments, or I would try to find it myself.) (It was long, and I don't want to repeat it if it's here already. I tried sorting by Newest and it didn't appear, so I might have accidentally deleted it. Hell, by now I could have typed it again!) Thanks.
Incredible that in portrait mode it still has 5 columns and in landscape 6 columns. How STUPID and confusing (I don't use widgets). I always have to search a bit where the icon is placed. Wallpapers and emoji’s? No problem.
Have an IPad Air 3 and not gonna update it for the next 2 years, so Stege manager is not relevant for me 😢. Wondering, how this update will work on my device. A bit disappointed with this minor update. There are some features which had to be added since the first IPadOS was presented and wich are more usefull than Health app or advanced spotlight… The video is great, thank you.
Hey Chris, One question . At timestamp 24.51 , you are dragging the pdf to apple notes. I have ipad pro M1 and ipad OS 17 is updated. I tried the same PDF dragging from files app to apple notes , it is not working 😢. The PDF document is not even moving when i press it . Is there any settings to enable to make this work ?
Hi ChrisLawley... Amazing Ipad walkthrough. of course I loved the wallpaper collections. I like to know one thing - In the Home screen Dock on left most corner I could see a mac icon. How to add it to the iPad. Can you please share it? Thanks
Hi. After downloading the latest ipadOS 17, I dont know if this is a bug, but I cant seem to open my Facebook app. Tried reinstalling the FB app and restarting my ipad but it still persist, every time I open my FB app it crashes down automatically. The installation was smooth though. Would this be a possible glitch?
ok but anyone know what happened to the ios 11th volume slider conveniently under the pause/play and skip on the lockscreen? i have a 12.9 i think swiping down the control center or using buttons is unnecessary, thx
Wow, a big step up! However 12-inch iPad w keyboard still weights more than a MacBook Air. And smaller iPads aren’t so convenient to do serious work w excel, let’s say. In any case, if they improve file manager, then it will start being decent oS
It seemed you demonstrated Standby mode for your lock screen, but as far as I can tell, Standby mode is not available in iPadOS 17. If it is, how'd you implement it?
The fact that you can place widgets anywhere, but still not apps anywhere on the Home Screen is a classic Apple move. This is some hardcore stubbornness.
External displays are near unusable for me since the iOS keeps getting confused as to which screen should have focus and the keyboard stops working on the window I'm actually working in. This has persisted through iOS 16 and now into 17. I don't see it dicussed - but surely I can't be the only one having that issue?
Thanks for the video! As an amature astronomer, the capture sounds fantastic! Hopefully I can plug my Canon into my iPadpro and ditch the lagging wireless.
