The idea of iPad IOS needing to be like Mac IOS seems odd. Yes, it would be nice if you could do some Mac things on an iPad but for the most part the 2 devices are used for different things. The iPad isn’t just for “quicker, simpler” things, there are some things that are more intuitive and easily done on an iPad than on a Mac.

The A17 is almost 1 year old, so it's designed about 2 years ago, but A16 is 2 years old and designed about 3 years ago, so before the big AI hype started.. and before you come with the M1, that is a desktop class chip, not a mobile class chip, not a suprise if it supports more thing.

M4 allows generative AI functions, allows more layers and computational support for artists, 3D rendering and modeling. Allows more graphic computing for games and controlling and displaying other monitors. If you just browse the internet/email/projects and organize files. A Mac is better. Especially if you grew up using a traditional computer with traditional file management and window management. iPads are a new view at computing and is committed to touch and drag and drop. You have to learn how to do this without a mouse. Hard for some but fun for others. iPads are made for their demographic and if you find using the iPad cumbersome, sorry to say you’re not the demographic. If you want a touch screen computer. Buy a Microsoft surface tablet. Oh wait no one buys those because a computer software on a touch based tablet suckssssssss.

@@Realdaveromero All I’m really asking for is that my app is not suspended when I’m not using it for a little while even though the system should have plenty of power and ram to keep it going, because if that app is doing something or being connected to something, it gets disconnected or stops doing whatever it was doing and I have to reconnect or start over.

I got the iPad Pro 13 inch, I was hoping for AOD, and a Samsung Dex like feature so apps can stay open and have a little more versatility, not to mention a better file management system. Let down but fortunately I needed an iPad and it fits the bill. 🍻 to hopefully getting the above mentioned features. The pen features are cool but not everyone uses it or needs it. I hope in a future update that we can change individual colors and not just apple to all for the icons and widgets.

I'm vision impaired and the bright, dark moded screen allows me to take notes which I can't do on paper or an eInk pad like Remarkable. I am a heavy notetaker and the iPad has been a godsend for me.

“A new era” give me a break. These are powered with desktop/laptop powered chips yet we still can’t run ANY other OSs, including running VMs locally. At this point just stop upgrading the CPUs or make IOS a lifetime item as in 5 years these things will still be content consumption capable.

An iPad isn’t a laptop, it’s not meant to run those kind of things. If you want that then just get a laptop. iPads are amazing for me. I animate easily and the quality is amazing. If you’re worried about the iPad being so powerful yet not running a laptops software, you clearly just wish your iPad was a Mac. There are so many things in iPadOS 18 that fix so many problems, and for me this feels like “A new era”.

@@QuestAnimationsthe point is not that "the iPad is a laptop without a laptop OS" the point being made here is that "the iPad has so much power yet can't use it ANYWHERE" Yes the geekbench scores are higher, but numbers won't mean anything when there's almost no precevable different from what came before. Now, to be fair with the introduction of emulators on iOS this is somewhere negated and on top of that a very small selection of actual modern games (as in not mobile games) but still that's just one aspect of using a device. I may be completely wrong, I don't own a working apple device rn and I don't see that changing, but from what I've used and seen online, this is what I can tell.

Took apple 15 years to make app icons move wherever you want lmao. I'm a big apple user but it is frustrating how far behind they are. One thing they really should have got onboard with is underscreen fingerprint technology. Face ID is very good don't get me wrong but it would be cool if they implemented two different biometrics. I guess there is a long list of reasons why they haven't but its just another example of how frustrating it is that they take so long to get onboard with emerging technological updates which android phones capitalise on.

Only with the new generation? It sounded so exciting, but the end gave me that "meh, trash" disappointment. Honestly, if not for landscape camera, oled or pencil pro (which, even combined, don't worth the price) there is no point in buying M2 air or M4 pro... All the new features are great…but they’re not special! I think the big thing is Apple have not justified the utterly ridiculous decision to skip M3 and debut M4 in a tablet not a computer The assumption from all the over the top tech RU-vidrs was that these AI features were so advanced they could ONLY work with some new hardware feature that’s exclusive to the M4 But no…my 3 year old M1 iPad Pro can do absolutely EVERYTHING in iPad os18 that the M4 model can do…which is exactly what they’ve done for the iPhone let’s not forget! AI is exclusive to 15 Pro models 🤷🏻‍♂️ M4 iPad sales will TANK after this becuase honestly WHY would you get one?!

The new calc app will change the entire experience of using the iPad in so any ways. We won't need to change the file manager at all with it on our machines. It's the most important Mac OS future they could have chosen to include on iPad OS. It's the beginning of a new dawn for all users not just Pro's.

Just purchased my iPad M4 13inch and couldn’t be happier. It allows for greater focus, productivity and interactivity and is a perfect complementary device with a Mac desktop when used with Universal Control.

if the handwriting/printing being better was on regular ipads, it would be great for schools. Students write horribly

in some cases yeah it would just help if handwriting isn’t a variable in anything but for stuff that grammar and handwriting is a matter of if your grade is 80 or 100 then it would just make it too inorganic. Or at least there would have to be a feature to enable it when needed but disable it when it matters.

@@bmwjs1 Thanks I think I’ll give them a miss, I was thinking of getting a mini but the fact they are only £50 less than an Air makes me end up buying neither. Already have had an iPad Pro a couple of years ago and sent it back after a couple of days because of the external storage issue.

Math Notes is not a Apple pencil feature, it's a calculator feature, you can even use it in iOS 18 beta calculator, and works with your hands too, the Pencil doesn't required.

Apple could launch a macOS with touch screen support to install in iPad, because the current multitask iPadOS system is so limited, its samething of a iPhone with big screen with almost nothing of diffence.

iPadOS needs the ability to install 3rd party system plugins like for Universal Audio UAD stuff. I would love to record professional grade audio on the go with an iPad rather than lug around a MacBook but it just seems that it’s not quite possible yet.
