I would like to see an iPhone 12 mini daily usage test, like 1,5h Social Media, 2h WhatsApp/Messaging ... would really like to see the battery status at 4h of use 👍🏼
@@aboutmerle daily usage for me on my iphone 12mini so far, i can get comfortably 5h of screentime. With about 2 of them in snapchat (very popular here in norway) and 1hr of browsing ebay and safari, basically just reading. And then about 2hrs of streaming. I can go through a full day of use no problem.
4K frame size is 8.29 Mpixels. At RU-vid’s standard 45Mbps compression for 4K video, and 1.63MB per megapixel-second, that’s 1.63 x 8.29 which is 13.5MB of video per second. 10 hours is 36,000 seconds, which means that this footage would be, AT MINIMUM, 486GB with RU-vid’s compression, assuming he uploaded the whole thing. The raw digital data, uncompressed, is the frame size times color density. Assuming 24 bit RGB, that’s 3840 x 2160 x 24, which is 24.88MB of data per frame. 36,000 seconds times 60 frames equals 2,160,000 frames of video. Multiply that by 24.88 and you get 53.7408 TB. This guy recorded more than 50 terabytes of data for a 9 minute video
What kind of usage allows for only one charge per day, though? I got the 12 earlier today and would not seriously consider the Mini due to the battery fears. The 12's battery life is at least solid. I imagine I am going to have to baby it a bit more than I did with my 11 Pro Max but I am hoping it won't be too bad.
@@jeffreymichael540 well since last month i own apple watch and airpods so with bluetooth and data on outside it really eats my battery fast plus now in winter with temperatures around 0 its going down really fast
@@jeffreymichael540 i mean do a lot socials but tryting to not anymore and use more laptop for that bcs i have headaches from watching small screen for long time you know
as someone who recently switched to exynos-samsung i couldn't agree more. what would make it even more close to "real life" usage would be an hour of spotify streaming over bluetooth headphones/speakers.
My SE2 battery doesn’t last a whole day. I don’t use it much either. No gaming, streaming or even talking. I’m not impressed with it at all. I’ve ordered the 12 mini because it’s smaller than the se. not as small as my original se. I’m hopeful I’ll be much happier with the mini.
@@myrealusername9998 I replaced mine 2 years ago with another 6S. I’m done and getting a Mini. Edit: Bought a 12 pro instead. Would have liked the Mini screen to be a bit more wider.
I have the 12 mini and gotta say, this is the best review out there! Don’t believe the haters in disbelief and trying to disprove this test cause I’ve tested it myself and my battery always lasts around 8 hours as well!
John Floyd Kenneth Samson oh I’m not using a case or screen protector so I’m not sure haha I’ve never broken or cracked one of my phones and with the new ceramic shield I feel even better using it without them
@@johnfloydkennethsamson453 I am. I was tempted to return the phone right away this morning when I had discovered that others were having the same issues. However, the phone that I wanted to return it for is out of stock all over NY. I do like the form factor of the mini but I’m not feeling the battery life honesty, coming from an iPhone 11 Pro. And speakers sounds like something from 2016. The reason why I bought the mini in the first place is because it’s attractive no doubt, and because it some how reminded me of the LG G3 in terms of form factor and even that phone had a 3000mah battery in it. I don’t see no reason to go under the 3000mah point for all the 12 models in 2020. A part of me wants to keep it but my conscious is telling me to go ahead proceed with the return, then I’d have to wait until December 7th because the 12 pro was the initial one I was gonna get.
my Mini battery lasts 2 days but I use it as phone, not as entertainment center. I would never watch Netflix or RU-vid on it, for that I have much larger IPads or large TV. Great phone, superb package together with the Otterbox case.
I don't really understand how some reviewers are disappointed by the 12 Mini's battery life, while many battery tests like this one show the battery life to be quite good.
This is why specs don’t mean everything. The battery life on the iPhone 12 mini is better than expected. This just shows how power efficient the A14 Bionic chip really is. Also, I bet the reviewers that complained about battery life were most likely using 5G.
this is totally different from what I'm seeing with other people talking about the battery in terms of daily use it's actually pretty impressive for how small it is and how well it handles through the day. which makes me think about getting it cause I'm not gonna lie I miss having the small phones.
@@neues3691 they don’t use the same battery quality. I have coconut battery on my mac and it gives you the manufacture of the battery. IPhone SE uses Desay Corporation and iPhone 8 uses Sunwoda. My iPad mini is also made by Desay Corporation and has degraded to 85% in 8 months
Nope i like it, you get waht you pay! I dont think its sucks, sure its not the best battery but you come trough a day, thats what i want. I mean look at the design, weigth and the size, sure also the price. Its ok!
Compared to the others definitely but still 6 hours straight isn't bad for a budget phone like the SE. That said though I'm really glad I didn't buy it so now I can go for the mini.
@Hadi Am pro max for business or travel and mini for a night out. That’s why I wanted them both but COVID and then I bought the regular pro. Then with AT&T, esim is easily swappable
@Hadi Am I actually have a QI power bank, the otter spot from the apple store. I use to have the SE and 11 pro on smart battery case, love those things. I was actually going to just buy the 256gb mini but the Apple pro raw sold me on the pros. I try to have the best quality camera when I take photos of my toddler and I have a new baby coming soon. I own full frame cameras but can’t always cary them. What I have been doing lately is charge my phone when I go home on my lunch break. I also have a samsung QI chargers dedicated for my car.
Well this proves the nonsense some comments sections have about the mini battery life. This was an intensive workout and it beat what I get on my Pixel 5 doing much less! We can see the A14 5nm chip is really efficient and hopefully the SD875 will be just as good. I now understand why Apple were confident that reducing the battery capacity of all the iPhone’s would not be an issue. Early tests on release were not as good as they were on early iOS 14.1 which has battery issues. I suspect further updates will improve further. Obviously if you use 5g then it will not be as good, but Apple knows this and the software will hopefully just use LTE as these apps do not need the extra bandwidth. I look forward to the M1 chips in the new MacBooks as they will be battery champs. Cheers.
Yes 12 Mini battery is very impressive for realistic day to day usage and also alot better than my previous SE 2020. But No It isn’t even close to Pixel 5’s battery. I use both Pixel 5 and 12 Mini together (had it for about 3 days now) since I love compact phones, and Pixel 5 outlasts 12 mini by margin. Tests are always good to take note for, but I think the most accurate way is to actually use them together as you normally would which really shows you how they differ from another and which is better.
keep in mind this test doesn't take into account any touch input which consumes alot of energy so this is quite different from a normal use case, i'd say you can definitely shave off ¼ or ⅓ of SOT in normal use cases
@@neues3691 I do not have a mini for obvious reasons but I do have a Pixel 5 and that does not have the extraordinary battery life some creator's claim. Using it little now (returned to S20U) but just checked and it lost 44% in 37h with 6 mins SOT, that is not great! My Pixel 4XL was much better on standby. Doing very basic stuff, it is good, but push it and it does not do well.
@@neues3691 Actually I tested overnight what phone kills more apps, and the Pixel 5 is much worse, just checked and it had closed all but 4 apps from the previous evening! My iPhone kept about 50%, 10 out of 20!
I'm still rockin' an almost 5 year old Sony Xperia X Compact with a 3000mAh battery. It's basically the same dimensions as the 12 mini but a bit thicker. I'd upgrade to a thick 3000mAh iPhone mini in a heartbeat
Insert sim cards and rerun the test if you can. You'll find astonishingly low results cause you have no idea how much mobile network eats up the battery. That's why most reviewers have complained about poor battery life on the mini.
Moin Uddin lol well it’s true believe it or not. I’ve been using Apple’s smart data mode 5g so it uses it whenever it doesn’t think it’ll affect the battery that much, which has been most of the time
I've had my Mini 12 activated since Friday afternoon and the battery life seems to be roughly the same as my XR which has 100 percent battery health after 16 months of use
@@ryannnftw my mini is working fine. 30 min of GPS consumes about 12%. But just checking on social media once in a while and doing some web searching costumes about %50 in a day. It’s definitely a step up from two hours. Having phone on dark mode helps save battery too. Honestly if you’re full on watching a RU-vid video while doing some other small tasks I would only expect a little over 6 hours of battery. Reviewers say about 8 but I feel more like 6.5. I thought it was going to die on me within two hours due to the commentary by other people but it really isn’t that bad. I’m loving the size.
This is an outstanding video review. The method of comparing battery life with actual task scenarios is exactly what I was looking for. In addition, the phones used for comparison turned out to be the three models I am interested in. Great job!
Thank you for this video! I'm happy with my SE and 6h07m because it costs 515€ and the 12 Mini costs 830€ thats a 300€ gap. And BTW 12 mini 2.227 mAh, iPhone SE 2020 1821 mAh = 406 mAh Gap.
hey on a lighter note you stole my words...lol that's what i was thinking and about to say ...yes battery comparison is a bit unfair for SE 2020 as it has 1821 mAh battery and it is doing pretty good job with that range of battery....SE all the way
I wish my se had a better battery. Honestly, I wanted the 12 mini but I found the SE 2 on sale for 250 from the apple website on thanksgiving and I could not resist such a great deal. I am considering to wait for the next se which is probably coming out in 2-5 years from now or I would get from the mini lineup that apple will probably offer.
7:50 Actually, iPhone 12 lasted just above 15% longer than the mini, not 30% - (see 6:40 moment, but remember that the battery percentages of 12 and 12 mini can't be compared with SE 2020!) I guess you got distracted by the 30% between SE 2020 and mini - (but actually you got it wrong there too, the mini lasted 41.41% longer than the SE 2020). At moment 5:32 you can see that 12 mini still has 32% battery but...actually lasted longer than that: SE 2020 = 6 h and 7 min. = 367 minutes; 12 mini = 8 h and 39 min. = 519 minutes (41.41% longer than SE 2020); 12 = 9 h and 57 min. = 597 minutes (15% longer than 12 mini).
This was very informative. I’m still using my 1st Gen SE. I ordered the Mini but won’t open it until the SE completely offs itself. SE 1st gen is still the best iPhone I’ve ever owned.
i switched from the olf SE to the new SE(2020) after 5 years of use this week. i was also thinking i will buy the 12 mini but i am happy with the new SE... i loved my old phone
@@Metin2P4President for me it more so about the size. Honestly the Mini isn’t mini enough for me but it will do because I’m almost sure they’ll never make one smaller then that.
I have the mini.. I fully charged my Mini by 3pm Sunday and here it is at 6am Tuesday morning and I have 29% battery left. I could go 2 full days but I’ll need it charged before work so I’ll charge it while I sleep today. It only lost 8% while I slept the other day during the 7hrs. I upgraded from the OG SE where the battery was 83% capacity and would lose 15% if I used Snapchat filters for a few minutes 😆.
These tests should be done in a taxi while roaming around the city without WiFi. Locating the LTE / 5G signal will consume maximum battery , or at least should be done away from Wifi , considering most are commuters travelling between home n office with 9-10 hours spent without WiFi signal. But thank you for performing these tests, it takes lot of efforts. Appreciate your efforts n providing the stats.
Keep in mind these phones actually have longer battery life in day to day use for most people since he turned Blu Tooth and Location On. Those are two features that you always want to have Off unless you're using them at that very moment because they're 2 things that drain your battery a lot and turning them off greatly increases battery life.
Simplely because the bigger a android battery is and the more people use their phone and get addicted to it but hey a phone is made for texting and have some calls why not some internet. For those who just use their phone for "in case I need it", they won't mind buying this phone. I personally regret DAS are a bit high...
Incredibly timely and helpful comparison. So the Mini gets about 13% less battery life than the standard 12 by this test. Seems like a very reasonable tradeoff.
Just a quick recommendation: how about include the google maps & spotify/apple music as part of your tests, that would make even more realistic daily usage scenario. Great videos tho, keep it up!
For the long run, iPhone 12 looks like the best among the entire 2020 iPhones lineup. Camera that most people use is there in it and now even the display has been bumped up to OLED.
I'm looking at getting the 12 mini and hearing people complain about the battery life being bad, yet you just proved that gets about 8 hours which is pretty good to be honest. But I think it always comes down to what you're going to use the phone for.
I’m finishing 2 years on my SE 2 in July. My battery capacity is at 87%. It gets hot easily and of course chows battery so so quickly. I do not recommend it for power users
I love how he is using a Google pixel to do the timing. Also nice battery test. Standby time is the most crucial thing in my opinion ever since google came out with the adaptive battery. sometimes my pixel 4a can give me an estimated use of over 24 hours on a charge if I am not using my phone that much
Hi, mine 12 mini similar. Normal usage: messenger, whatsapp, instagram, facebook, phone calls etc and it usually drains the battery to 5%-10% level after 5-6 hours of screen on. I think loud speakers, calling with loud speaker, watching videos and listetning music without headphones drain the battery the most. Any opinions???
I have the Iphone 12 Pro. I have not been able to get more than 5 hours of screen on-time. Can anyone else comment on their battery life? How did he make it to 9 hours for the Iphone 12? I am a bit confused.
Why SE lost %10 battery at night, it is interesting. I want to buy SE but I am not sure about battery. The Phone is very cool, small, fast but what about the battery? Can SE users give me information about the battery please. Do you advise SE for me?
12 mini, 12, 11 Pro etc. Models are expensive in my country..Se's price is cool, not bad also the Phone is like iphone 11. If the battery like alright, I mean like so so. I can buy the SE
Has Anyone noticed in 2:20 that in System Information on iPhone 12 Mini, it's written iPhone 13.1 !!!!!!! Take a Screenshot and Zoom it, u all can see!!!🙆♂🙆♂🙆♂🙆♂🙆♂🙆♂🙆♂🙆
I have a 2020 SE and on the occasions I go out of my house it lasts easily a day. When I stay all day at home it lasts 1.5+ days (that's 100% - 20%) So yeah, currently not a problem for me, but we'll see after pandemic season is over.
Your test was really faithful and amazing! The best realistic one I've seen so far on these devices. You really checked the battery health and matched the brighteness on all of them before making that battery comparison. I have an Iphone 11 still working as good as new but the device is too heavy and not practical for me so I'm looking for a more compact option. I'm a heavy user when it comes to internet and social media, but I dont really do games on my phone (I have a pc for that). Your test will really help me choose between the mini and the SE, thank you!💖
I charged my iPhone 12 to 100% too it off the charger at 6 am and after a daily use at 11pm it was at 65%. That’s SO much better them my old iPhone 6 that I had to charge like 8 times a day.
Really good video. Got a 12 mini last Friday and battery life is fine, not as long as my old 11 but pleasantly surprised how close it is given how much smaller and lighter the 12 mini is.
on my iphone 12 pro i did my own little test. i had 21hours of stand by and 7hrs 12min of on screen time with 22% of battery left. so my phone lasted 28 hours before i recharged agian and i still had 22% of battery left. i did not want to make it go to 0 since its my brand new phone but the way i see it your test was perfect
This should have a lot of views! I don't think anyone will spend a lot of time on their phone. If they are so dissapointed with the battery life might as well get the regular 12 or pro max. Appreciate your hardwork on putting this test and video!
