@Namir Deshmukh How? You do know that phone glass is only strong on the majority of points, but the weirdest falls will shatter the bitch. That's why I slapped a case on my Note20 Ultra even though it passed the drop test with flying colours. And my ZFold2 doesn't really need it since most of it is super thin glass and I gorilla grip it every time I take it out
@Namir Deshmukh but iphones are weird i once dropped my iphone 11 pro like 1,5 m on a rock nothing happened then I dropped it on a soft carpet and the glass shattered now I switched to the note 20 ultra
@@austin3154 LOL, that's the majority of AMOLED displays out there. Yet still, each manufacture gets a different standard. That's Why Apple's and Samsung's phones simply have MUCH better displays than the competion. (With Sam going the oversaturated way, while Apple trying to "True Color" Honorable mention: Oneplus also has amazing displays, but that's about it. The rest is trash.
Yeah exactly, that's the issue with marketing hype - when they overhype everything, it's hard to tell at first when something is _actually_ as good as they say!
Ey I dont wanna argue, but last year when Apple claimed they used the "strongest glass on a phone" with the iPhone 11 series, they were kinda lying. The Galaxy Note 10 Plus destroyed the iPhone in the same drop test by PhoneBuff. Just saying.
@@DarkGenesisSo2 What does that have to do with this? Apple was overhyping it last year - but this year it was actually warranted, exactly as their comment implied...
and the beautiful back that was shattered. I'm probably going to get a case for it as usual but thankfully not going to need a screen protector. So, I'm still happy
@@osahon9483 This has nothing to do with the Ceramic shield... the phone is designed so you can open it from the front, not the back. Replacing the back is WAY harder because of the design of the iPhones. Just like on Android phones it's mostly way harder to replace the front. That's the only reason why the back is so much more expensive.
My point is that they should have added the new glass to the rear, since it's more expensive (they actually replace the whole phone, and recycle the old one)
*edit* I was super tired and couldn't think of the name "corning" last night, sorry 🤣 it's not Samsung and Apple tech, they're just using it! I was sleeeeeeeepy 🤣* That's amazing. The new Samsung did the same. I love this better glass tech. So much better for the consumer. Good job Apple and Samsung!
@@RennieAsh Still in US if you don't like the phone you can return it to apple and get the refund. Which is not available in India even after paying 1.6x the price of US.
This has nothing to do with that dude. The prices are so high for the back because of the phone design. For a back replacement you have to replace pretty much the entire phone while the screen can easily be replaced on its own. The iPhone gets opened from the front, while most Android phones are opened from the back. That's why on most Android phones it's the other way around with the display being way more expensive than the back. That's just "by design".
@@wilsensaturne3382 bro i myself love using android but the thing is that dumb guy gave a irrelevant reply to his comment...... that's y i said lik that
Ceramic Shield is a great choice by Apple though, even with it being more vulnerable to scratches in exchange for durability, a lot iPhone owners have tempered glass screen protectors on their phones anyway (that is more scratch resistant), so if your iPhone gets dropped, it's guaranteed the front glass won't break
Even as an iPhone user I was skeptical of "Ceramic Shield" as more marketing than anything. I'm glad new iPhones aren't the cracked-screen meme they've always been. Great vid as always!
even though its better, the memes will never go away. just like samsungs having bad cameras even when they dont and like samsungs blowing up even though it was a one time thing
The iphone 12 design puts the glass below the frame , so the drop tests are hitting the frame and not the glass. The glass is stronger this year , which helps. However, scratch tests show similar damage compared to iphone 11.
Amazing results. I still insist on always using a glass screen protector on my 12 anyway, but raises a question: is there many widely available tempered glass protectors for the rear of the phone? I’d feel so much more confident using my phone without a case if rear protectors were widely available.
@Draggy654 "I'm totally calm" then proceeds to write all of that lmao Anyways, the scenario you have was truly pointless. No real life environment would eradicate weapons or machinery. Plus, that this of glass is built for places with natural disasters or armored vehicles.
I have seen probably 6 drop tests on the new iPhones, and in EVERY SINGLE VIDEO the phones perform amazingly. These iPhones are incredibly durable. I never thought I would ever say it. They are absolute tanks.
Is that bezel little bit higher than screen? Because after face drop, the screen doesn't get any effect at all, but the bezel has a little scratch. But good job Apple!!
Bless this guy, he actually has rigs to test this as opposed to randomly tossing phones off the terrace and claiming the results are scientific 🤦🏾♀️👌🏾
Let’s not call this science regardless lol. It’s def not. More consistent sure? But the other tests have value too. In that over a phone’s life time, it’ll likely be dropped in a variety of ways if it does get dropped. Diff heights, diff forces, diff situations. I.e. one is a more consistent test of its potential, but the other probably way more real world and what I’d look at since the stress won’t always be in one spot consistently
that was what i was going for. maybe it doesn’t need a tempered glass screen protector since ceramic shield holds well. Just put a case on the back and you’re good to go.
I-blason cases are amazing! Been using one for the last few years - used on my old iPhone X and am currently using one on my iPhone 12 Pro Max, great quality, fab protection, bit thick but if you want to keep your phone pristine then I highly recommend one, not a mark dent or scratch on either phones during the last 4-5 years
*Ceramic shield = Victus* Apple just renamed it as they always do (IPS LCD = Liquid Retina) Edit Here we have two approaches Samsung = higher density (great scratch resistance) Apple = less density (great drop resistance)
@@cmaysautoyt yeah calling Apple fans as sheep, again. Just because we love Apple don’t mean that we are a bunch of blind people who don’t understand anything🙄
I would love to see a comparison of the normal Pro versions not only the max ones like: iPhone 11 Pro vs 12 Pro and 11pro vs 11pro Max etc to get a sense of scale.
Makes me feel good about my daughter using her 12 pro. I still put it in a case and screen protector. She destroyed her XR. Still worked, but looked like it was in a demo derby....
Pretty impressive performance here. Apple's marketing wasn't lying lol. I can't wait to see the PhoneBuff speed test for the iPhone 12 Pro. It's gonna be insane.
they probably already done it and just waiting for the video to be uploaded, thats why they didn't bother to drop test it, just waiting for this video to get as much views first i guess
I just noticed something. The new iphones have their metal side casing protruding beyond the glass screen to create a lip of protection (like with all phone cases). So the ceramic glass isn't necessarily more resistant to drops as Apple might want us to think? We have to test an Android phone with the same (or similar) setup just to be sure. Last thing. I don't care about the extra camera on the pro (i would never use it). What I do care about is the extra ram and battery life. Can you do a speed test of iphone 12 vs 12 pro? I'm pretty sure the 1st lap will be neck and neck. I'm curious about the 2nd lap though.
@@awaizkamran4166 and lost the other laps. Final win for Note 20 U. So what if iPhone won the 1st lap? Is this a prediction to conclusion game? Let's wait till Phone Buff puts a video with results.
@@rakeshiyer5637 bro everyone knows A13 was wayy faster from the latest snapdragon and everyone also knows A14 is 50% faster than A13 so no chance for Note 20 ultra and with 6gb of ram Apple is gonna win no doubts, it's just that Apple doesn't put like 16gb of ram in their phones and if Apple start doing that the business of Samsung will be triggered asf
This channel is famous for the speed tests, why the hell do a drop test first? This channel is always one of the last to make speed tests and it shouldn’t have to be.
Great test as usual! Good stuff from Apple. However, the problem is that it's much more difficult (and expensive) to replace the back cover of the iphone compared to the front. So they should be focusing on making the back cover shatter less and not the front. Also, for years iPhone displays scratch way to quickly so if they wanted to impress me they should've made the back cover stronger instead of the front and increased the hardness of the display to make it more scratch resistant.
I work in a software industry and from that lens I used to think that android is more technically advanced, but when you use both, it’s very clear that apple is far advanced in terms of usability and practicality. The are above the pure technical layer, in which androids are stuck.
The front screen survived because the metal side is so slightly raised above the screen and it is absorbing the shock. This is good news for Apple. Htc sensation a phone from 10 years ago had a better design because the glass was actually concaved and the complete phone was was made out fully out of metal. Maybe once day Apple will learn how to make a durable phone by just looking what was done in the past. I had the phone for 5 years never used a case and dropped many many times without breaking anything. On the end the LCD got damaged from the constant passing trough X-RAY on the airport but the phone lasted 5 years.
Those raise bezels really did a good job! I wish he would have placed a small pebble or something down and dropped them face down on that. I rarely drop my phone on a smooth surface. I'm outside a lot.
So basically what I'm seeing is, matte protects the phone the best so might as well make the whole phone matte (i.e. the metal on the iphone 12 and the back of the pro as evidence)
