Hey guys, there appears to be some confusion based on what I said about Optimized Battery Charging at the start of this video. I recommend leaving Optimized Battery Charging ON to preserve you’re iPhone’s battery heath as much as possible. The only reason I turned it off in this video was to create the most accurate test environment possible for comparing these three charging methods to one another.
I’ve been using the 5W brick all the time and I’m shocked to see an 12W adaptor lying around in our house and I use it to charge my phone almost all the time because it’s faster but I’m going to copy what you’re doing and use the 5W brick one during the night! Nice comparison!
I just bought an iPhone 13 (regular) last week, and they had me buy the 20W brick. I had an iPhone 7, so I have a 5W brick. I like the fact I can use the 5W, for overnight charging while I sleep, or using it in the car, since the 20W does not have a USB for that. Thank you for posting and comparing.
People hating on the 5W, but it’s the one that is the best for the iPhone and it’s battery life. It creates less heat and pressure on the battery cells. As he says: When a phone lasts a full day and is only charged over night - it doesn’t matter if it takes 1 hour or 4 hours.
I have a 5w brick, it was from my previous iPhone 7. And I use it for charging my iPhone 15 plus at work, it takes a lot. However, today I learned how the 5w is the charger more indicated for the protection of the battery. Is a awesome video, great job bro.
At first I used a MagSafe charger. But when I got my AirPods, I started using a regular 20W charger and only sometimes use the MagSafe charger to charge my iPhone. Later I found out that wireless chargers are bad for the battery health, I only used it for my AirPods since the case technically isn’t a device and doesn’t really matter if the battery health is bad due to only charging it at night.
I pre-order my iPhone 12 Pro Max when it came out and I got it on lunch day. I also got the MagSafe charger immediately after it came in. I charged my iPhone every night with the MagSafe charger for almost a year until I got my iPhone 13 Pro max on launch day. So after almost a year of using the MagSafe charger every night my iPhone 12 Pro Max battery was at 98% battery health. I still use the same MagSafe charger with my iPhone 13 Pro Max and it’s still at 100% battery health. I don’t think wirelessly charging your iPhone degrades the battery that much that you need to worry about using a wired charger instead. Also, I did use the Apple branded 20 watt power adapter with the MagSafe charger. I read online that if you don’t use the Apple branded ones with the MagSafe charger that it can degrade the battery faster but I’m not 100% sure how true that is. Hope this helps.
@@dilyndukes7657 Thanks for the feedback. I do realize that you should use the 20W adapter with the MagSafe charger. But when I use the MagSafe charger, it generates a lot of heat. And that is for all wireless chargers. It is also a lot slower. And it is actually bad for your battery health if you use a 20W charger overnight. So you should just rather use a wired 5W charger if you’re gonna charge it overnight.
I like keeping my phone battery between 30 and 80 percent. That way, I can really take advantage of my 20 watt charger as it charges faster between those ranges. Keeping it between 30 and 80 also increases the battery life as opposed to fully charging and and draining it to 20.
Charging to full 100% when "optimazed battery charging" is on doesn't matter that much as daing to 20percent. Its not healthy to battery, but to 100% it's not rly bad. I'm working in apple service and know it from expirence i get there :) Have a good day !
@@kacper7630 lol not true at all. This new batteries are meant to drop to zero and charge when you want. The only thing you need to be careful is not to let it get hot, warm is fine and normal.
I don’t always pay attention to the wattage, we have 5W, 10W and 12W. We don’t use anything higher than 12W as I don’t have the USB-C to Lightning. I try to use the 10 or 12W if I want it charged quicker.
12w is the ideal solution. Why? It maintains the phone temperature at mid level. High temperatures , I suspect, can cause plate separation in the boards. Hence, baseband issues
I use 12w too but I do hope to get a 20W soon! After watching this, actually, I think I’ll stay with my 12W lol. The 20W is a little expensive and there’s no major difference.
The thing with the 20W is kinda strange, because it said to charge from 0-50% for 30 minutes, and yes he is probably right about the 5W that it is the best option from the 3, at least if you charge your phone overnight. I'm with the 11 pro and I'm using the charger that came with the phone. 1 year and nearly 8 months and I have 91% battery health for a while now. Don't really want to go to the shop and replace it because in my country we don't have an APPLE shop, so yeah, they probably gonna cause more problems with the replacement and the other thing they guarantee would skip the adhesive.
I always charge when sleep, so 5w works fine. It feels safer cuz it doesnt get that hot. I have the 20w as well, but only using it if I need to fast-charge.
Using a 13 mini since Jan 2022, and had been using a 20W to charge. Battery health is at 96 percent. Just switched to 5W for charging overnight which should help slow down the drop in capacity.
I’ve always charged my iPhone XS with the 12w brick that came with my iPad. I usually do it overnight even tho you’re not supposed to with a higher wattage charger. My battery health is 78% after 4 years
Either go with 5W over night or 20W morning not 12 w .. cuz 12 w makes yu uncomfortable and intermittent charging destroys battery health like crazy. Once you charge full use it till 5% or so then full charge then drain. This is pattern don’t do intermittent charging it’s more danger than fast charging
I have an iPhone 11. I use the brick I got with my iPad (12W, I think?) to charge my phone during the day. I don’t anymore, but when I charged my phone overnight, I used the 5W charging brick
You give a good tips to save the battery's health, but then you're telling me you charge your phone at night... This is the worse part, even with optimized charging. Here's a tip: Charge your phone before going to bed, and leave it unplugged during the night, and plug it back in in the morning, to reach the 100% mark. This is the best way for you to do it. Also, do not let your phone reach 0% charge. Great video, tho! Keep it up!
I haven’t got an iPhone but I used to charge my device with the.. supercharger it came with? If that what it’s called. Extremely fast charging... After reading about the effects on the battery’s longevity I switched to a regular type-C brick and almost never charge it over 80-85%. Third year in, battery is holding up incredibly well. Absolutely no complaints.
Tbh I recommend the 12 watt charging over the 20 watt charging because if u plug the 20 watt charge into ur phone its gonna heat up and the battery is gonna be damged.
Ya I had the same problem with 20 watt so I started using 12 watt charger and it’s totally great since there is no heat which gaurantees longevity of the battery
Most annoying things about using a fast charger on iOS is that when it reaches 80% it automatically slows down the charging speed significantly probably to like 5w so it just takes forever to reach 100 cause there’s no way you can remove the limit so ugh ye
I charge off of a 5w for the same reason but I have a USB-C cable plugged in to my Mac, which charges at 12w if I'm right and I use that if I need a quicker charge.
It’s funny how people thinks that using 20w charger will damage your battery health at night, you guys need to understand how much technology have gone like the iPhone knows if its charging at night or not, when the iphone reaches 80% it will slow down the wattage it will receive so the phone can cool down and make less impact on the battery. I used my macbook charger to charge at night and when i wake up i saw my battery at 96% while the charger was switched on it learns when you will wake up and when to start charging again
I always use 5 watts. I have one 20 watts for travel, in case charging time is limited. A small additional battery does wonders if you unexpectedly have to use energy gobblers such as GPS.
I have the iPhone 13 and I use a 5W amazon charger which is connected to a wireless charger. If I am in a pinch, which I haven't been yet, I will use my 30W MacBook charger and connect it with the USB-C charger. With my previous XR, I had a battery case, the same set up, and it wrote.
I have a 20W, and a MacBook 30W adapter. I charge my iPhone 13 Pro Max on a Nomad 18W charging stand that also has an Apple Watch charger. It’s been great using that. I have a Samsung 15W wireless charger though that I assume charges my iPhones either between 5-7.5W and I’ll interchangeably use it for my iPhone 12 mini and iPhone SE2020. I also use it for my iPhone XR and iPhone 8 Plus. I have a second iPhone SE2020 that’s only powered on every now and then, and same for an iPhone 7. So, I’ll just toss them on my 20W adapter
apparently the iPhone 13 pro max can charge at 27W but it's not advertised. The channel Max Tech covered that soon after it came out. So it would actually make for an interesting video to make. Maybe including the phone temperatures over time as well as the charge levels on a graph
Life is too short for me to use the 5w and waste my time waiting. Despite the heat as others mentioned, I’d just live my life normally, work and spend money on new battery.
I use a Samsung galaxy a71, which accepts a maximum of 25 watts of charging speed. I don't charge my phone over night, but I use 5w charging to preserve battery health. I don't use the 15 watt charger and I sometimes use the 25 watt charger for some quick battery.
I use a smart phone for at least 5 years. Every smart phone I used until now had a replacable battery. So I picked both 5W and 12 W charger and if I'm in a hurry, I charge with the 12 W one, or else with 5 W.
I don't charge overnight. I have this fear it will explode, cause a fire. When we have get togethers, when everybody is asleep, I unplugged all their chargers. In the morning, I'm the 1st to wake up to plug it all again so they would not know. By the time they wake up, their gadgets are fully charged. 😅
I only use 20w as a mid day hurry charge to 75%, very rare. In all other cases, 12w does the job. Mainly because 20w is plugged into the MagSafe charger and I’m lazy enough to grab 12w but not lazy enough to want to use the MagSafe
I see my 12pro's battery health is now at 91%( in just 9 months 😔), I am using 20w charger everytime, since march. My observation is it has direct heavy impact on battery due to the heat produced. Now I started using my 5w charger whenever possible. Any suggestions from anyone are welcome.
@@shine7835 Totally agreed, My point is comparing 5w and the 20w side by side and having all best practices followed all over, 20w depletes battery faster.
when he say the gap between 12w charging and 20 watt charging is small i laugh so hard because as a andriod user my phone charges completely in 25 mins poor iphone users😂
The fact that apple never shipped a fast charger in the box is extremely sad. Apple has battery issues lets face it. and no 5W charger wont save your battery. I had XR and 11 both came with 5w's but battery health was not good. It mostly depends on your usage. Battery has never been apple's area and those who say that apple optimises battery life with its software should Try and use an iPhone SE.
I was curious to see if you do decharge test too on those results by playing some video maybe. I'm sure that 5w would last maybe 5% longer than the fast charged one Since battery cells are truly charged with lower W Usually fast charge means jumping over some cells
Best phone company in the world ladies and gentlemen. No 120 Hz No fast charging, Xiaomi, Oneplus charges in 30 min Extremely overpriced But "most people charge their phone overnight" , so it's okay. It's an iPhone. It seems Apple is taking advantage of its loyal fanbase by deliberately delaying the current features that almost every android has
The best one is the one with the lowest wattage. It creates less heat while changing and stresses the battery cells way less. So it’s the 5 W in that case. If you additionally manage to keep your charge always between 30% and 80%, as well as keeping it away from heat sources - your battery will last forever.
@@Slash18622 hey so even if i use 20watt its still ok? (i always keep around 30-90) and always check heat source like everytime i charge always make sure it was cold
@@jaredvincent2317 it‘s ok what ever you like to do. I don‘t judge it by any means. Officially Apple said all new iPhones support fast charging, additional to that they sell faster chargers. So it‘s fine. My point is, even with this given - the 5 Watt charger still is the „healthiest“ way to charge the devices.
I have 18 watt and my phone supports up to 15 watt I think... I am going to get the iPhone 13 december so I can get a carrier plan and it will drop down to price, it will cost as much as the 12 costs now (april 2022)
I charge my samsung phone and tablet on a 5 cord power brick over night and if I need a charge midday (which is basically never) ill use an 18 watt fast charger. Both of them work very well
Apple should really put like a charge limiter in settings cause I don’t pay attention when ever I check my iPhone it’s at 100% or I just charge over night…
can you check battery drain test for the iphone for 5w 12w 20w..many utubers said using fast chargers drains battery soon. so it will be usefull for us to find comparing all three adapter charged phones
2 hours with 20w is fine for me i guess but i wonder if using a 30w macbook air charger makes a difference, will use mine when i do buy an iphone later this year so i don't have to buy the 20w brick
Im an Android user and I daily drive a Google Pixel 4a (not the 5g version) and I use a 5 watt charger because the 18 watt charger that came with the phone overheats the battery like crazy
i have always used the OEM 5w chargers and currently use the iphone 11 i just ordered my first apple watch the series 8 45mm so while that came with a USB c-type cord i decided to buy 2 20w c-type chargers and an extra cable still waiting for them in the mail
next time you should turn the setting off so the phones dont go to sleep and you can just record until there full without having to keep tapping them every 10 minutes
Hello. Bought my 13 Pro Max on Tuesday. Used it till 4% remained, put it on charge at 1:15 AM and removed it at 5:20 AM. It took 5.1 hours to get to 100%. I am from Pakistan so we don't have official Apple Store here but I got my phone from an authorized Apple Dealer. He said the room temperature was the issue, where I checked it was 33°C. It was my first charge. What could have gone wrong?
dude i dont get it, i have a 4500 mAh android phone, and using a 5 watt 1mA charger it charges it in less than 2 hours, i couldnt find an explanation or a video explaining this to me
Which is better for my battery health long term? Currently I am charging it with a 20w charger and just topping it up to around 75 in the mornings as I get ready, then draining down through the day to around 25-30ish, and repeating the process. Would it be better to get a 5w charger and charge it over night? I started the topping up because my previous iPhone lost 8percent battery health in 5 months and I charged it overnight.
For my phone, I use an old 3.5W charger, which is even slower than 5W, but great for battery health. But the charger I use when I need to charge fast is actually a charger Apple no longer sells, my old Apple 10W charger.
The benefits outweighs the risk. Its 2022, nobody wants to wait 2 hours to charge a phone. Battery health doesnt matter when u buy a new phone every 3 years anyway. I cant speak for everyone, I think many people change smartphone every year.
@@fynkozari9271 I have to disagree. I have no problem waiting a while for my phone to charge, I only use fast charging when I absolutely need to use my phone quickly. Also, since I bought my phone in 2020, none of the phones that have come out in the past 2 years have been ones I've wanted to buy. They either have too much camera processing, poor battery life, or other hardware and software optimization issues. For this reason, I'm planning to keep my phone until 2025 or whenever there might finally be a phone offering that I actually find acceptable.
if I'm at my home i use the 5w brick and if im going to use mi phone, the 20w then. and for work a 10k anker power bank with 20w of charging power Nice videos ❤️
It depends on your personal choice. If you want your battery health as healthy as possible use the 5W. If you don’t care to much about it you can use the 12W 20W or even higher it doesn’t really matter as the phone itself knows when to limit the wattage use. Of course you should make sure to always use an apple authorised charger.
@@SuperWyzo I don’t think there’s sth like 5w 2.4 A because it’s means that it will deliver the same 5w but with a lower voltage and a higher current. Probably increasing heat. Maybe you mean 5v 2.4A and that should be a 12W brick which is also safe to use but faster than 5w
So is it okay to charge with a 5W adapter during night and changing it to idk a 20W adapter during day to like charge it normally or would it affect the battery health? 🤭
if i had enough money for an iphone, i’d buy the magsafe charger and use the 5w charger at night so it charges even slower and might not get to 100% (cuz it’s bad for the battery health)
sorry but you said a big mistake , cos i know for sure that the 13 pro max and i assume the rest of the line up can charge at up to 27 Watts... are u sure the regular 3 is limited to 20 Watts ???
bro i also have a apple official 20W charger. but it charges WAY faster than this 20W u have, as mine charges from 0 to 100 in like 1 hour 30 or maybe less i didn’t time it yet. (also mine looks different cuz of the region i live in [dubai])
Apple: here's ultimate next generation fast charging, charges your 3240mAh battery in just 2 hours. Xiaomi: here's another phone, and it can charge its 5000mAh battery in 20 minutes, phone is half of apple's price btw
