@@SyedZaid06 what u said… ion know why ppl make a big about 60hz vs 120hz… most apps don’t have a 120hz output, majority of the apps with use produce at 60hz
@@AmirrOnru25RU-vidrs hype 120 hz while most people can't detect the difference. Meanwhile, some people aren't happy in life after watching a ton of hype videos and seem to only feel better about themselves after boarding the 'Hype Train'. They don't realize that a majority of the time they are scrolling at 80 hz ~ fact. 😂
This "people don't care about 120Hz" attitude needs to change. Apple is profiting off people's ignorance at this point. 120Hz is no longer a premium feature-it's become a standard. Including it would have made more sense than adding the Camera Control feature to the base iPhone 16.
d1 crashout academy head ahh its a mf feature u can live without go cry about it (i got the 16 and am mad but tbh fomo doesnt exist without it so who gaf)
120 Hz, though, uses a LOT of battery power, even with variable refresh rate. There's a reason why even the basic Samsung Galaxy S24 has a 4,000 mAh battery.
@Sacto1654 Not much, actually. There's a misconception that 120Hz runs all the time, but that's not true. It only kicks in while scrolling, in games that need it, or in other areas where smoothness is required. When you watch a video or perform other tasks, it automatically adjusts to 60Hz or whatever framerate is needed to play the content. So, the percentage of time 120Hz is active is minimal, but it makes a huge difference in day-to-day use. That's also why the impact on battery life is minimal, though smartphones today require daily charging anyway. My point is that this feature has become standard and shouldn’t be overlooked by a company like Apple. Rumors suggest Apple will bring 120Hz to all iPhones next year, and I’m sure everyone will suddenly notice the real difference it makes.
If you’re a social media scrolling nut then yes you’re going to complain about the 60 hz display. But the rest of us who use a phone as a productivity device, this is the best base iPhone in a long time. It basically closed the gap between it and the pro models. 95% of the population doesn’t need all the other “Pro” features
If the 16 could natively support raw photos I would get it. It doesn't and so it's immediately disqualified for me. I find it such an odd intentional handicap from Apple. Samsung phones down to their A series can take raw photos (I know this because I owned an A20 4 years ago which introduced me to the format). Why a phone that expensive can't, despite being plenty more powerful than the iPhone 13 pro which debuted RAW is beyond me. Excellent video as always Kyle!
I see a difference took me a min when I'm using a 60hz I can tell instantly it's all choppy when scrolling & lag when I'm using 120hz it's smooth when scrolling no choppiness you would have too use a 120hz phone for a few months in order too tell I'll never go back too a 60hz
@@dewaneadams2023u can’t tell the day… I can tell that you listen to a lot of RU-vid content creators… my 60hz iPhone 16 plus is perfect I wasn’t that slow to pay a extra $400 for another 60hz Apple can have the carbon copy 120hz 16 pro/pro max
120hz is only a gimmick for me. What's the real use of this, besides looking cool? If movies doesn't go beyond 60 fps, why should the screen go higher? Also the non-pro iphones looks so much better.
agree. i wouldn’t go as far to say it’s a gimmick and i get why people like it but as someone who has used 120hz phones i think you definitely can get used to it
they always say its the newest battery when its prolly a placebo, today i ran a 10 mile jog at 1-5 am and usually on an iphone XR (2018 model) it gets down to 60% charge but the iphone 16 got down to 75%, and thats after it coming out of the box 2 days ago so idk if the charge is actually better or even the same as old models but people think its better cuz its just fresher but will end up the same.
Depending on what you're using the iPhone for. If you need the best videos and you plan on editing them, then you need 15 pro to be able to shoot in ProRes. If you don't need that kind of stuff, than definitely iPhone 16.
This is the era of the base iPhone. 😆 The iPhone 17 is rumoured to be getting a 6.3” ProMotion screen just like the 17 Pro and 48MP cameras front and back. 🍿
I'm using a S21 almost for 3 years as my personal phone, and a S10e for almost 5 years (firstly as my personal phone and now as a professional/banking device that stays almost always at home). Despite having 120hz, I use the S21 most of the time in 60hz because: 1 - I don't game on my phone. 2 - It saves some battery. 3 - I simply don't care having this super "fluidity" just to scroll menus and social media feeds. If 120hz is important to you, fine. But not everyone needs it or actually care for it. And I consider myself as kind of a in between intermediary/heavy user.
Its less about if you need it or not and more about, for what your paying it really should be your decision on if you want to use 120hz or not and not Apples. If the base model had 120hz i would pick it over the pro easily. But im used to high refresh screens (even office monitors get higher refresh rates now) which makes 60 hz less clear to me. Again you dont need 120hz but you should be the one deciding if you want it or not.
@@ChrisBa303 I agree with you on this. Apple has been using the argument that "the average user don't want this feature" because the averahe iPhone (non pro model) buyer really doesn't care for this, but if they had the option, perhaps their opinion on this would change. Still, people usually don't complain for the lack of features they don't understand or think they don't need, so it generates kind of a strange situation.
I have a 16 pro however I have seen the 16 colours in the apple store and I love the blue and pink ones. Deffo apples best colours for a while on the normal iPhones
I have the 15 Pro now and I want to stop being a "Pro" user, for a personal decision I want to be able to feel good using a basic iPhone 16. Something like living a slightly more minimalist lifestyle and asking myself: "Do I really need the most expensive and technological phone if one that costs 200 or 300 dollars less is more than enough for me?" Plus I set my current iPhone to 60Hz and it's not the end of the world, it's just a little different. I think I can live with that, so I'll buy the non-Pro model this year. Thanks for the video!
why would you set it to 60hz? that’s the dumbest shit i’ve heard. especially on a phone that adapts the refresh rate. paying that much money for a base iphone for me anyway, is a massive dealbreaker
i’m in the exact same situation! i consider myself a minimalist too and i decided to switch to the iPhone 16 (non pro) for a while and see how it goes. Gonna pick it up today!
@@astrangerontheinternet1 I too am very minimalist, I decided to sell one of my Ferrari’s today as having multiple just didn’t suit my minimalist lifestyle
what you're looking at is when things are pushed to max output, and don't really reflect everyday use, but both actually have the roughly same temperature output under sustained stress, because that's what the phone throttles to. In this case, you can clearly see the heat disperses across the entire phone on the 16 rather than just one area, allowing it to run more efficiently with a higher level of performance. Essentially, you can push the 16 more because of the heat dispersion.
just dont use ur phone like a 6 year old ipad kid? get an ipad for gaming or even a mf console/pc, better use for ur phone is to keep the storage space for only pics/messages anyways i mean its not a mf playstation, idk how kids get ts heated when its legit a P H O N E
I can tell you that when I worked at the Apple store less than 1% of customers even knew what refresh rate is nor could they tell me which phone had it by looking at it. The fact is the Pro phones rarely run at more than 60fps. Most of the time they a re running at 60fps or lower. Also, all these videos show the difference in slow motion because otherwise you would not even notice it. Unless you play games you really won't miss it.
Everyone demonstrates the 60hz screen in slow motion so we can tell the difference. I would love to have 120hz for the variable refresh rate and always on display, but I don’t really care about the fluidity. 60hz already looks super smooth to the human eye. Box office films are shot at 24hz.
120Hz isn't just for smoothness, it's also about touch response. The screen is insanely more touch responsive and reactive while scrolling I'm not even kidding, it is very noticeable. On 60Hz it feels like it drags along and you have to keep your finger more on the screen for it to register. The 16 costs 1100€ for the 256 GB model and the 16 plus 256 GB over 1200€ in Germany which is outrageous for 60Hz phones
Very informative review. I can live with 60 hz as the base model has all i need. I'll upgrade in 2 or 3 years when120 hz comes to the base model. I think ' Pro Motion' is overrated as most of the time your looking at 80 hz (unless intense gaming is involved) ~ fact. I spend 98% of my time actually viewing content: RU-vid, Netflix, News, etc. versus scrolling or gaming at extreme FPS to experience that occasional 120 hz hit. Subscribed. 👍
Great video Kyle! Question for you on the actual modem on the base iPhone 16: Question - Does the base iPhone 16 use the Qualcomm Snapdragon X75 modem? I read only the 16 Pro models get the upgraded (and better!) modem? Thanks man and please keep the awesome video's coming! =)
I asked several of my friends that are not into tech, aka average consumers, and they cant even tell the difference between the 2 screens. No wonder why people just dont care about the pro enough. The 60hz on the regular iphone is still so smooth most average people cant tell. I can't even tell either until i really focus into it. People are out here focusing too much on refresh rates like they're playing CS and COD. It's a phone, get over it.
I had a 15 Pro Max and have switched to the standard 16. The primary motivation is size and weight. I came from an Xr and never got used to the size or weight of the Max. Apple made my decision easy by making the phone features fairly equal. The only thing I will miss is the telephoto lens. Being able to just handle the phone with one hand is just so worth it to me. I decided against the 16 Pro because it’s still fairly heavy and the price isn’t worth it to me. I see the 60hz vs 120hz but it’s not important to me at all.
I just hope the portless iphone crap doesn't turn out to be true. Like its just pointless, and cables are better. Just because apple has wireless garbage to sell doesn't mean that wired audio equipment that has better quality should be forgone. Not to mention, cable charging has absolutely 0 things wrong with it - wireless charging uses cables and still makes it worse.
120 hz is only noticeable while swiping through ui and if you do gaming for everything else there is no difference other than the price you pay to get it, I bought 16pm and just returned it and ordered 16 plus due to the price performance ratio also 16pm is heavy and taller so hard to fit in my pocket
Honestly, as someone who used the R 360° Stand case for almost a year, I can say, it’s the best case I’ve ever used. It feels sturdy, the MagSafe is really strong but never to the point where it’s annoying, I’ve dropped the phone many times and didn’t get a single scratch, and the stand is really handy for my use cases. The only thing that is annoying is the hinge of the stand wears off too quickly. It stopped being strong enough to hold a phone after a little bit more than half a year. So you may need to buy another one if you use it a lot.
@@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx876 what other differences are there with the screen? Both get the same brightness, the pros just have 120hz while the base models have 60hz. Are the bezels smaller on the pro? Yes but who’s truly gonna see that as a major selling point.
Someone said wirelessly charging your iPhone ain't good because it drains your battery health faster than wired charging. Also wired charging is just faster/better.
Wireless charging doesn't drain your battery health faster. Heat does. Wireless charging tends to run warmer than wired charging, that's the difference. If your phone stays cool while wireless charging it is fine.
I lose interest, when a review of a phone turns into a camera review. When I get serious about photography, I use my actual (mirrorless) camera. It has a better & larger sensor, more sophisticated post processing options, more detail, better lenses, it's still super light weight, and it's... 8 years old. The camera in the iPhone is amazing and always accessible, but for what I use it for, it's been amazing for years. These incremental improvements (especially given the size and form factor) are great, but for me, they are not a selling point or a reason to upgrade.
Sorry, unless your a prof photographer, phones have replaced cameras, unless you live with a go pro stuck to your forehead. Thus the review is very appropriate for MOST users. By the way, if you expect any smartphone review not to detail the camera then your expectations are not realistic. Happens on this model, one of the changes is centred around better control over picture taking........... one would think you would be interested in that........... All in all your comment is bogus.
I originally picked up the 16P, then later picked up a 16 after handling my gf's. I'm still keeping the 16P, but there's something about the 16 that's more enjoyable. Maybe it's the less-premiumness or the more funner colors. Idk, but it definitely looks so much cooler. The two main cons for me, though, are the lack of a Tele and the 60Hz display. But then again, I mainly use my X100U to snap with. It's just that with the all-new photography styles on the 16 series, a Tele still would have been nice. And it needs at least a 90Hz display. I'm pretty sensitive to the 60Hz where I'll start getting headaches scrolling after a short while. And one game I play, I'm used to playing @ 90 fps on my other Pro devices. It's going to be interesting when the supposed upcoming iPhone Air gets a 120Hz display.
Which Android phone specifically are you speaking of? My wife has Samsung S23 Ultra. I detect ZERO advantage in speed or smoothness over Iphone 16 Pro. They both are fast and smooth.
I will concider a shift from android if Apple goes at least 120 herz screen and at leastt 12 gb ram and give us freedom to install the 3. party apps we want and feel safe with.
If you get the Pro Model iPhones and you live in the EU, then this could apply already. However 12 GB of RAM will take a few more years but iOS runs very smoothly with low amount of RAM anyways. It is unlikely that the base model iPhones will get 12 GB of RAM when the MacBook Pro get only eight.
@@DarrenNY81 honestly, I adore the 16 plus because I dont care much for the 120hz, but in my country having the 15 pro max cheaper than the 16 now, im leaning towards the 15 pro max. But i like the look of 16 and has some of the pro features. Thanks
People need to stop with the 60Hz. 1. It’s the base model for everyone from teenagers to your grandparents. People who just need a well built phone with one of the fastest chips (a chip they couldn’t care less about). 2. Comparing it to android phones makes no sense. iPhones have 100 percent of iOS market share. There were over 500 androids devices released in 2023 alone. Some of which aren’t using faster chips. You’d have to release a device with as many features as possible in order to even turn a profit on a device. 3. If your sales are good, why as a business, would you spend more money to add something your actual customers aren’t asking for?
people just are d1 crashouts bro they dgaf bout this phone being 30000000x better then being given a landline phone or even a nokia 3000, they just wanna ramble about shi like that unemployed friend on a thursday.
i have 13 pro and if this basic iphone would have 120hz screen i would actually consider to upgrading. in same time after all rumours i am looking forward to iphone 17 air 🫣
