CAPTURE BUTTON IDEA - If they swapped the capture button with the SIM Tray slot, they could act as L and R triggers with the Action Button... (game controller triggers) and make the gaming experience on iPhone next level.

1: remember, iPhones no longer have SIM tray slots, now that they use eSIM. That, my friend, is the 5G antenna… kinda looks like the Apple Pencil charging dock on iPad 2: if they did that (“swapped the Capture Button with the *5G antenna* , they could act as a L and R triggers with the Action Button”), how would you record video? The cameras would be at the bottom and your fingers would be touching them. If the cameras were in the middle tho… that could be a possibility.

@@LuisAngelSantos 1: My bad - In the UK we still have SIM Trays. 2: The Capture button could still record video, the functionality would switch dependant on your activity (it would record video providing you weren't in a game). If you were in a game that was controller compatible it would act as a trigger, and in a game without that it could potentially be configured to screen record? Brainstorming.

I think you are right about the spatial video capture button. They want to train people to take horizontal video to work with the Vision Pro instead of what they are used to with vertical videos. It may also have something to do with stuff going on in the background with the two different kinds of cameras being used and the machine learning it has to do to make it look like good 3D video.

the action button should be above the power switch, opposite to the mute button on the other side. That way, you have more than half the lenght of the phone's sides empty ... to hold.

I really hope the final design will be the first prototype, it looks super nice and is an actual change in design. It'd be interesting to see what the 16 pro would look like with that first sort of style

At first I didn’t think Apple would go with the iPhone X-esque lens, but after thinking about it some more, I think they just might. I would help differentiate the Pros even more as well as follow the aesthetic of the iPhone SE4 leaks. And just being different to spark interest.

hey jern… both 16 iphones (aka 12 iphones) are going to ship vision pro is US only so do as capture button, it will be the murica version… maybe they finally find a use for the plastic block they inserted at the place of sim card slot.

Capture button will specifically record spatial format video leaving your normal camera to record higher res video (4k 60fps for example) as normal.

If it’s really a capture button, it will only be active in a camera App. Therefore accidental pushes will only be in the camera App, not all the time! I’m questioning tho, if a button just for that is worth developing (for a phone with already 2+ possibilities for capturing)..

I actually think the capture button being capacitive makes sense and is going to prevent some of the accidental press issues mentioned. Think about it: iPhone in your pocket, button is mush and does nothing. iPhone is picked up or oriented for video? Button acts like a button. iPhones already do some of this sort of magic today through their "attention-aware" settings (where picking up the phone makes the ringtone quieter).

Maybe the capacitive nature of the capture button would help apple to program it to only work in certain apps and scenarios like camera app and Instagram/snapchat camera and it would be dormant otherwise so as to avoid the accidental presses which you mentioned in the video

I mean- having a dedicated button to take photos or record is cool. Imagine not having to open the photos app and just using your camera as you see something in the moment. That split second moment where if you go to open the photos app, the reason you opened the app slips by and your disappointed. But if we could just use our phone camera with predetermined settings? That would be cool!

Apple can do an Apple vision (non pro) by using plastics instead of metal, like they did with the IPhone C back in the day. It will be lighter too, which is a super important feature to things that go on... you know... your face.

My Lumina 928 Windows phone had a "capture" button on it for taking photos and start/stop of video, and that was 10 years ago. Granted the phone itself wasn't anything special but it did the job I needed it to do and worked just fine. By the way, "spatial video" seems like an Apple way of saying 3D video.
