In this video tutorial you will learn how to tear down and replace the screen on a iPhone 5. I walk you through the disassembly and reassembly steps to properly install a new screen replacement and offer tips along the way
IMPORTANT: I don't advise using 'super glue' as it might leave glue trails and not secure the screen down properly. Try to use a flexible adhesive like 'Evo-Stik Serious Glue' if you need to use the original plastic frame. Its much easier to clean off any excess and won't leave white marks like super glue.

I must thank you for this great tutorial, is by far one of the best that i have seen before performing the screen replacement of my Iphone 5 with success, the tip on the small black piece that separates the speaker is a must before begining this , for me, little odissey.

The hardest part for me was literally putting on the last two screws. After having a screen that wasn't working and being phoneless for a month, I was getting so jittery and had a difficult time putting the screws on because I was too excited. Thank you so much!

Hello and thanks a lot for your video ( useful for the tricks about little parts not to lose) my screen was broken and i reached to remove all the glass only. it works now. Just a question : how can i remove the last layer of glue on the touch panel? but be careful some glass sold on ebay are not all good ( hole of the front camera is at 2mm whereas it should be 3mm)

Traditionally the digitizer is embedded into the glass but it is sometimes a separate layer that is attached to the glass or attached to both the glass and the LCD (sandwiched between). As I recall, the iPhone 5 does not have a separate digitizer thanks to "in cell" touch technology (built into the LCD display). It doesn't make things much easier though because the glass is still glued to the LCD.

BTW re supperglue , I did use it but applied using a paperclip worked out well as you cant apply too much by accident.

Could you please help me understand the distinction between replacing the glass and the digitizer? A lot of people are saying if your screen is cracked you need to buy the entire digitizer assembly with glass - is this true or what? For someone who's simply broken the glass of their screen, this procedure will work? Do you recommend any particular glass for the replacement if so?

Great video! I am replacing my iphone 5s front glass only. I separated the lcd/lightbox connector by hand. Does this damage it? Do I have to solder it back together?

I replaced my screen but the home button is a bit sinked in on the upper part of the button could that be the result of me placing the screws on the opposing sides from where I took them off?

My battery did not come out easily and pulling the plastic flap caused two micro chips to get knocked off the motherboard causing the power and home buttons to not work.

That is because people who do repair videos usually have already opened the phone they are going to use for the video. Those batteries are held with adhesive and it is really complicated to get them out unless you use a little bit of heat. There is no way that a brand new iPhone battery is gonna come out fairly easily as the one on this video. This is the problem with videos like this. I'm not hating or anything because I learned from videos like this, but just as you, I saw videos looking so simple and easy until I tried it myself. I don't do tutorial videos but I would just recommend that they show an iPhone that has never been open before, that way the people watching can see how it really is to repair one.

hmm, its a tricky problem. Try taking the screen to a phone repair shop and ask them to undo the screw. They might have a good quality screwdriver and probably won't charge much if anything to undo it

I just replaced my lcd and then plugged the phone in to charge. I knew it turned on cause it vibrated, but it is pitch black and it won't stop vibrating! Tried holding down the power button to reset it or turn it off but nothing changed (still vibrating 2 times every few seconds). When I unplug it from the charger, the vibrating stops....There is no water damage. Any suggestions as to what the problem is??

I have a little problem. I've recently replaced a screen assembly on an iPhone 5, and everything seemed to be fine. But after 2-3 minutes of use, the digitizer goes crazy when I touch it. As if it gets tapped rapidly all over the screen. Even if I hold my finger still, then screen jumps back and forth, and the phone is completely useless. However, the problem disappears the moment I lock the screen, and unlock it. Then it's fine for another 2-3 minutes, and suddenly everything goes mad. Am I dealing with a faulty digitizer, or have I done something wrong?

It might be a faulty new screen, but its more likely the flex cables are not fully plugged in. Try using a stronger suction cup from a car satnav windscreen mount

Can I wash the outer part of the home button with soap and water in order to get it sticky again? Or should I use something like isopropyl alcohol? great video sir,now I realize that I lost that little black spacer next to the font camera,that's why when I screwed there I think I screwed too much,and the metal bracket bend a little bit in the middle,make the camera a little bit of position and the earpiece so tight down.. 22:53 when you push that area it should be play a little bit right?because of the springy contact from the earpiece..mine is tight if pushed on that area. you how thick is that spacer sir.0.5 or 1 mm?I'm thinking to make a replacement for that myself because I don't think anyone sell that little spacer,I have a bunch of dead samsung here,maybe I can use them to make that spacer,just need to know the exact size. sorry for my bad english sir,I hope you understand what I mean.

My issue was my phone was the phone dropped on its upper corner causing the plastic thing (idk what its called) to break near the volume and the screen didn't crack. I see backlight under neath it, so my theory was the cord connecting to the LCD is loose causing it to glitch out or the screen doesn't show. I went to a store to get it fix and he was telling me that i need to get the whole screen fix because their is no just the frame which now watching this video is a lie and wanted me to pay $104 to fix. Can you tell me watching this, that i need to buy the Bezel/Frame??
