Tutorial / Walk-Through : Replace your iPhone 5S (or 5C) battery in 15 minutes
Shop ScandiTech 5S/5C Battery
scandi.tech/collections/iphon...
NOTE:
In this video we show how to replace an iPhone 5S battery by removing the front assembly completely. This is not necessary but most first time technicians find it easier to work with both hands free. If you proceed by not removing the front assembly, it needs to be held securely at a 90 degree angle or the cables can get damaged or tear. This results in loss of LCD, touch or front camera functionality.
On our website we explain how to remove the battery without removing the front assembly:
www.scandi.tech/
We urge everyone to also read our text/image instructions before attempting the battery replacement as it can get tricky and if not done correctly, there is a risk of damaging various components.
To see our full guide with detailed instructions, visit our website:

*****
We made this video to show everyone that it doesn't take an Apple-genius or a highly trained technician to remove and replace an iPhone 5 battery - anyone can do it!
A battery in an iPhone 5S and 5C, or any smartphone for that matter, works like any other battery - it wears out with time. After about 300 cycles, i.e. 300 full charges and discharges, a significant drop in performance is noticeable. The older and more used the battery gets, the more obvious is the performance drop. In the end the phone can end up shutting down when the battery percentage drops below 10-20%. In this case a fresh, new battery brings the phone back to life.
In some cases the battery swells. This results in the glass/digitizer lifting from its frame. If the battery is very swollen, it's not uncommon that a gap is apparent between the glass and the metal back assembly. This problem can also be fixed by replacing the battery.
*****
Product info:
The iPhone 5S / 5C battery replacement kit linked in the description is a complete kit with battery, tools and instructions - everything you need to get the battery replacement done!
Our batteries are manually tested before they leaves our quality control center and they are packaged in a ESD safe bag before placed between two layers of protective foam. The tools are carefully chosen to make the battery replacement process as easy and smooth as possible. We've also chosen to include metal tweezers as it's a very handy tool and can be used both to open the phone as well as picking up screws and other small parts inside the phone.

This is essential viewing BEFORE you open up your phone to fix it yourself. I used a different kit i got from Amazon but the tools are pretty much the same. I first watched and followed a "do it in 6 minutes". What a mistake! That video didnt warn me of all sorts of issues that can come up and that you need to be prepared for. I am so glad I found this video! Phew!

Excellent product and video. Just replaced my battery in about 10 minutes. Instead of taking the whole display off I stood it up to 90 degrees and taped the corner of it to a card board box. This let me work with both hands and actually rest my left arm on the box to be sure it did not go anywhere. Thank you!

Thanks Scanditech! Very informative walkthrough and it made my replacement a breeze. The tool kit is better quality than I thought it would be! The only two issues I had was that one of the bottom screws holding the screen in had broken from the pressure exerted by a bulging battery. It actually had the screen bulging up from the body. The only other issue I had, and it wasn't really an issue, was the adhesive strip had broken off very early. I heated and carefully pried the battery bit-by-bit until it finally released. A word of advice, BE PATIENT AND MOVE SLOWLY!

Scanditech I want to thank you for the video. For those of you reading comments here is my experience. The screen came up easily with a suction cup and a razor blade. It goes without saying a razor blade can damage internals so be very careful using one. But in my experience, the razor was thin enough to fit in and pry up the screen as I pulled with the suction cup. Once I got the screen up I moved it to 90 degrees and had my wife hold it there for me. At this point, I started the battery removal process. Removing the battery was a real pain in the ass. The flap that he shows to pull on with trapped under the battery. Therefore I proceeded to alternate between heat and prying. Found the best tool was an old small key change size YMCA card. This card was small enough that I could work it underneath the bottom left side of the battery. Choose to work here because there was nothing to close to damage. Once I broke the tape away from the battery I was able to slowly pry and pry and get it up. Keywords take your time people it will come up just be patient. Lastly, as Scanditech explains the thumb ribbon cable makes a "click" sound. It's a decent sound make sure you hear it. Good luck to everyone in the future. Once again thanks Scanditech the video was great hopefully the battery is of equal quality but only time will tell :).

We just did this today and it went exactly as described! Thank you so much! Just a few words of warning to those who will attempt this... It took us approximately 30 minutes to do this, but our new battery was completely dead when we installed it, so we had to wait about 10 minutes to charge to 7%. I know that the video said, "at least 3%", but I figured if 3% was good, 7% was more than twice as good! I bought an anti-static mat for about $7 on Amazon. I highly recommend doing this as the screws are EXTREMELY small and the mat had small indentations where I could organize the screws. Besides, it was anti-static which aided in protecting the device while it was open. The hair dryer is a must as it really helped to soften the sticky tape under the battery. It did take more effort than the video, but not a whole lot more. The phone is now performing extremely well! I have two more 5's at home and will probably be ordering additional batteries for them as well! Thanks Scandi Tech for a great product and well thought out video!

The process is straight forward if you just take your time and have some patience. The walk-through was well done speaking in simple terms. Very important to, as they said, watch the video the entire way through first THEN start the replacement process. Kudos on a great tutorial and thanks for shipping all the needed tools for replacement.

The video was great. The Battery replacement was fair. I spent more time trying to get the screws aligned with screwdriver before placing them in the holes as I install the covers. I would suggest sending extra screws because they are extremely small just in case you lose one. The hairdryer seemed like a great idea had a very rough time tearing the old battery away from the sticky stuff. Took approximately 45 minutes I would recommend using two people and not removing the screen. But the end results the phone worked great, the kit was great, the video was great.

Hello ScandiTech, Just used this kit to replace the battery in my 5S. Your instructions and video were very helpful but I ran into one problem *on my end* When applying the new provided adhesive, I dropped it at the wrong angle and couldn't retape since the adhesive twisted pulling it back off the part where the battery lays in. Luckily I had some very thin double-face tape in my house. I used that and doesn't seem to be causing any problems. Moreover I suggest that you guys include an extra set of adhesive strips because I'm sure many people, like me, will also mess that part up.

Just installed the new battery from ScandiTech. It only took me 40 mins and was my first time installing a phone battery (and opening high-tech electronics). I kept the screen attached to skip the extra steps in this tutorial. The hardest part was connecting the touch ID because it doesn't "click" in like the other parts. Rather, it fits in smoothly and the cover tightens it. This tutorial was SO HELPFUL. Thanks! Saved me so much $$$!

Hello Eric, I'm happy to hear that the replacement went well. The home button connector is indeed tricky, especially when doing it for the very first time. TYVM. Works great! -Nice tool kit. -The screws are tiny. -The magnetic screwdrivers both help & hinder. Helpful for picking the screws & removing them. Hinder placement: I had to use a finger tip to pin the screw down, so the driver wouldn't pull them out of position when starting them. -Removing the screen at the beginning is the way to go. -Hairdryer also. -Early Iphone 5S does not have the touch ID capability, so no ribbon cable to the home button to worry about. $25 + shipping & a little TLC beats $600 for a new phone!

Got it all done. Opening case was hard. It was very tight. Case flew apart suddenly, popped apart home button connector and popped off the touchid metal guard. But nothing broke. Battery tape on a 2 yr old iPhone broke off right away. But heat and prying worked. Spare set of screws would be a nice addition. Battery was only 6%. On reassembly it turned out the touch pad cable was not connected. So no way to turn it off - had to just disconnect battery and then go back and reseat the connectors at the top.

I used a different brand to replace my battery (which it’s only step by step instructions were to watch RU-vid videos, they didn’t even bother to make their own) so I’m not sure if that’s the reason why I’m having issues, but the part where you say to put the new battery on top of the old one and test it out, it’s not clear to me how to attach the little black piece to the right part. It isn’t shown very clearly in the video, and when I try to put it in place it just moves back up, so when I try turning it on, it won’t, because there’s no battery connected.

Trying to get the phone back together, but when I removed the ribbon cable for the home button, the little piece that clips it into place seemed to pop off and is nowhere to be seen. At least, that's what I think happened, and that's what seems to happen in the video. If this little piece is lost, am I screwed?

I just ordered a new battery from amazon and removed my old battery and installed the new on with no problems (Thanks to your video). My phone is now garbage. It doesn't matter what you are using it for (music, texting, talking) but the phone will shut off from anywhere to a minute to two minutes. It will automatically turn itself back on but the battery initially shows 1% and in a few seconds it will go up to anywhere to 50% to 100%. It does this over and over and my phone is now useless. Any suggestions?.

Hello there, That's odd. Inspect the screws to make sure they aren't stripped. Are you using the correct screwdriver? The bottom screws are called "pentalobe" screws and you need a pentalobe screwdriver to remove them. If you're unable to remove them, you could go to a repair shop and ask them nicely to take a look at this problem. I would guess that they are able to remove the screws quickly and easily. I had a surprise when I opened my iPhone 5S that took me a while to figure out. The old battery (the original) was installed in a way that bent the u-channel at a right angle to the case. So I could not find the tab of adhesive and pull it out. However, by gently heating the case behind the battery, I was able to pry up the left side and pull the battery out. I had to pry out the u-channel to remove all of remains of the old battery. The new battery slid right into the area where the old one was located, I should mention that I found that the old white adhesive was still sticky and intact, so I reused it to hold the new battery. The hardest part for me was reinstalling the minute screws that held down the battery connector. I finally got my pair of needle point splinter removal forceps to carefully drop the near-microscopic screws into their respective holes on the bracket, and slowly and carefully tightened them down. Next advice: hold the phone with the charge port up and place the screws into the holes before screwing them down. Again, the needle point splinter forceps work better. In my old hands, even with magnifiers, this was a time-consuming job.

Hello there, As the warnings say, lithium batteries do combust if they are punctured, pierced or excessively bent. Working near lithium batteries should always be done with caution. It's difficult to say how badly your phone was damaged without examining it. You should bring it to a professional and have them take a look at it. Regards, ScandiTech

is the new battery usually dead ? just installed it on my phone and the battery is dead
@ScandiTech
@ScandiTech 7 лет назад
Hello Casey, Sometimes the batteries arrive discharged. If the battery is completely discharged, it can take up to 15 minutes of charging before anything shows up on the screen. If you have charged the battery and nothing happens, I would suggest that you contact the support of the company that sold you the battery. If the battery came from us, you can reach out customer support at: support@scandi.tech (without .com) Regards, ScandiTech

Much appreciate the point that the 5S is NOT the same as other 5 series, in that there is that little connector under the home button, which requires you to carefully lift open the screen just a little to pry off this little connector. There are clips on YT which say they are for the 5S and the little connector is NOT in the video. Incompetence and misinformation just to get a subscriber and a click.

Successfully replaced the battery but now my touch screen is unresponsive... I tried brushing the ports that connect the screen but that didnt work. I literally have no phone now
@ScandiTech
@ScandiTech 7 лет назад
Hello Strife, It can be quite tricky to align and connect the touch screen (and LCD) connector. Some of our customers have reported that it takes them a couple of tries to get it right. You should hear a soft "click" when the connector snaps in place. Sometimes the connector can appear to be correctly connected even though it's slightly out of place. If you're absolutely sure that you're connector is correctly connected, then I'm sorry to say but it's possible that either your touch screen or the connector were damaged during the replacement process. Either way, contact the company that sold you the battery and they most likely be able to troubleshoot the issue. If you bought the battery from us, you can find our contact info on: www.scandi.tech Regards, ScandiTech

i replaced the battery on my iPhone 5s and when i turn on the phone, screen stay blue. what's wrong please??
@ScandiTech
@ScandiTech 7 лет назад
Hello Abi, That's odd. This is definitely our of the ordinary. A screen normally only turns blue when there's a problem. I would suggest that you begin by checking all the connectors you initially disconnected. Make sure they are all in place. You might even want to disconnect and then reconnect them once again to be sure they snap into place. If the connectors really are correctly connected, try re-installing your old battery if it's still in working condition to rule out that the battery is to blame. If you've bought the battery from an unreliable source (such as a random Ebay listing), it could be that the battery is malfunctioning. I would suggest that you contact the seller who sold it to you and ask for further support. Regards, ScandiTech

Hello there, Did your phone work prior to the battery replacement? Since you said "it still won't work", I assume there was some kind of issue with the phone before you replaced the battery. If your phone is completely dead, the problem could be caused by other factors than the battery. I would suggest you bring your phone to a repair shop and have them take a look at it. Regards, ScandiTech

I though 5s and 5c battery's were different

Hello there, The iPhone 5S battery has a slightly higher capacity than the iPhone 5C. The 5S has 1560 mAh while the 5C has 1506 mAh. However, both batteries have identical connectors and the same battery can safely be used with both iPhone models. A higher capacity means that that the battery will last longer which is why we offer the iPhone 5S battery for the iPhone 5C as well. Regards, Scandi Tech

can I use the 5s battery for the old iphone 5 version as well?
@djabazz8715

there is a high risk that your iphone goes to the bin, all contactors and screws are very very small and fragile the risk to break cables or contactors even if you are good at these kind of actions is not 0. the plastic frame around the glass can also break when you lift it up putting back the stuff is also tricky, not impossible but be very very very gentle and think each steps forehead. The tape is not easily removable it easily break and then you have to lift the battery has shown but with risk to damge things. Lifting the glass is critical if you go to much up or pass any tools beneath the glass at the cables that's it, you need to replace the screen, or the mother board. Perhaps better solution if you want to be on the safe side is just to buy a external battery that you can integrate as a folder. Considering feedbacks its around 30% failure to repair it by yourself...Think about it before...Just a warning

This was a complete disaster. I followed the instructions exactly but the stupid tape underneath the battery screwed me over. Not only did it take me like 30 minutes taking off the battery because I was so scared of it bursting, I think my touch screen is fried. It's showing up in weird colors and I can't even put in my code.
@ScandiTech
@ScandiTech 7 лет назад
Hello Katia, I'm sorry to hear that the battery replacement didn't go quite as planned. If the touch screen doesn't respond to touch, it's likely that its connector is not correctly connected. I'd like to suggest that you once again disconnect and then reconnect this connector. Do the same with the LCD connector next to it. It could solve the color problem. If you're absolutely sure the connectors are in place, the next most likely explanation is that the front assembly has been damaged. A new part cost about $30 on Amazon. Regards, ScandiTech

The entire screen ended up having to be replaced and my front camera. I didn't think it was worth me taking the risk to damage my phone more and lose intimate articles so I caved and went to fix it instead. :( Thanks for the advice though.
