I’m an IT fella but I referred to this video for a snapshot instructions. It greatly helped and made the swap easy without me forcing or breaking anything...that pesky battery is something. A gentle introduction of heat and leverage popped it right out. I found it best to get under one side nearest edge of phone and keep the leverage going in the same spot. From start to finish it took less than 10 min. Thanks!
Thank you for the helpful tutorial. Because of this video, I was able to order a brand new battery & confidently replace my battery with 100% success! My girlfriend was discouraging & said I should’ve just gone to the Apple store when I was having a hard time removing the battery (which is definitely the hardest part) but once I removed & replaced it, everything else after was easy, not to mention before. When my phone turned on it made my day!
Yeah, my husband is a dingbat, dropped the screws all over the floor, and I'm trying to find the last one with a magnet. Nobody would happen to know where I can find a list would they?
I just replaced the batteries on my own and did it in about an hour after struggling to take off the battery from the tape. I couldn't remove the said 'tabs' other commenters mentioned about. But I found warming the backside of the phone with a hair dryer helped me move on from the struggle I was having. Thanks so much for this video!!
It was actually really easy, I was kinda scared about taking off the screen due to it breaking but pried the screen off very carefully with those triangle things and it came off easily:-)
Alden Buyer as long as you apply heat to the back of the phone where the adhesive are and heat it up for about a minute or so(don’t heat it till you burn it) you can ply and pull the adhesive strips right off and the battery pops out easily:-)
So i finally completed my installation 2 hours and a broken nail later! This video was super HELPFUL! The challenges I had were the super uber small screws. It took forever getting them out and putting them back in! I used tweezers to help get them back in. I also recommend to label a piece of paper of which nails are for what and sit the nails on them so you don’t get them mixed up when putting them back in. I also was able to remove the battery WITHOUT removing the entire screen cuz I could not get 1/5 nails out. Thank you Jerry!!!!
This video is excellent. One piece of advice for all who dare to replace an iPhone battery: Hardware stores have the small magnetized dish/bowl one can use to insure against micro-screw loss. Those screws are so tiny, they can get lost in your fingernail! With this task, it does help if you have a background in electronics, SMT, and microcircuits (but surely not ctitical). Nice video JRE!
Getting the battery out was next to impossible...tried everything, including pulling the tape out...it broke. My battery was so stuck I actually bent it prying it out..finally came out, popped in the new battery and it worked!!! This is an awesome video!!! Thanks !!!
This video worked for me. Successfully replaced battery. You just have to be careful with what screws go where. I did it over a piece of blank paper and just labeled where I got each screw. Once you do that, it's pretty easy. I can understand the other comments about using the battery tabs, and wish I had read those earlier. But I didn't have any problems following JerryRig's instructions.
Nicely done..but I always check comments for any informed differences of opinion on how to do things and I'm now wondering if heating the phone is wise. Stick your tiny screws to pieces of clear tape then attach the tape to the metal covers they came out of so you don't lose the screws or replace them in the wrong order.
Did it, hardest part is put it back together, little tiny screws. The battery I bought came with tools. I warmed up the back then carefully pulled the glue strips out, they came out fairly easily. Hold the battery down when doing this or you could slingshot the battery across the room. Plugging in the connectors is tricky, takes patience. Phone is alive and everything works. I got three bowls to put the screws in. Don't want to blow them across the room with the blow drier.
Thank you Jerry for the step by step instruction, the most difficult part is the old battery removal, the adhesive is too strong holding it, i use the plastic tools comes with the replacement battery but accidentally breaks them. I also accidentally bend the old battery while prying it out, smoke and a bit of flame at the bending parts of the battery, luckily the small flame goes off after i stop bending it further.
Very professional & well done sir! Phone works perfect. Those super tiny screws were tough on my 69 year old eyes but the magnetized tool in the Yontex battery kit helped big time.
Fantastic instructional video, you could not ask for a more clear process and especially where you emphasise the difficulty in removing the screen and battery and using hairdryer really was the only way to move it the glue tabs were as good as under the battery. Took me 32 minutes start to finish as I’ve not done anything like it before and damned if I was paying Apple 3.5 times the price of a £20 battery and then shipping on top.
Thanx guy. I just had to change the battery of my son's Iphone 6. So much easier than changing the battery for my old LG G Flex. That was like mini surgery, for real.
BE CAREFUL! Guys, i was trying to replace the battery on this phone and when removing the battery from the glue i accidentally punctured the battery.... it burst into flames, there was a lot of smelly smoke, all over the house... i thought the phone is dead now, but luckyly it is still working haha :D... i managed to replace the battery and so far so good... today is Friday the 13th :)
@JerryRigEverything I'm currently installing my replacement battery for an iphone 6 battery! The MOST important thing is keeping the screws organized like U said & make sure ALL the cables are properly connected! I think it's 8 - 12 hours for the battery to fully charge before use so I'll let U know when & what happens....🙏🏽✌🏽💛💞👑📲💡🙌🏾! TY Brother 🤗
The video has an unnecessary step, you do not need to disconnect the screen, just make sure you're holding it, or held it against a book or something, and replace battery. Will save you time
yea i wish my instruction booklet said that and i love how this guy encourages the viewer to do a useless step that results in the hardest f'ing thing to do. cannot recconect the screen cables this is insane...
Followed it step by step. I used an flat edge of a putty knife to cut the glue holding the battery. One note to those who try to re-use the glue such as I did. You may want to cut the folded glue out of the case compartment before putting the battery back. This will keep the pressure on the battery uniform and will make the replacement battery last longer.
Great Video. Easy to do. Used very fine eye glasses screw driver for pentalobe case screws. Also, I did not need to remove the screen as my battery was not that sticky, Just hold screen with on hand at 90 degree angle. I bought my replacement battery from NEWEGG for about $8 for a Hi-Cap. My first time trying this and it took less than 10 minutes.
Just an update for those that have tried or will attempt to remove the battery. There are 2 half inch tabs on the bottom of the battery that you can peel back like a hinged tab. I suggest removing the 2 screws for the vibration motor and set that aside. Unhinge the 2 tabs and pull out carefully and as straight as you can. These are factory glue strips that come out similar to command strips. They will appear to stretch very long but once you get to the end of each one the battery will just fall out. Most replacement batteries come with new glue strips...
Thank you sir for taking the time to create this video. Instructions were clear and concise and I was able to complete the installation without incident...thanks again!
The iPhone 6 was the most reliable phone I’ve ever owned even more reliable then the iPhone X broke when I dropped it once XD I dropped my iPhone 6 about 100 times over the 5 years I’ve used it and yes I’ve used it every single day i also have dropped it on the concrete screen first I’m also a clumsy person so it was definitely the toughest phone I’ve owned and I am gonna replace the battery thank you Jerry for making a video on how to replace it and making it look easy I thought it would’ve been harder lol
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, MY iPhone 6 died, wasn't sure if it was the battery but I had it for a while, and needed it to make more income, it died last week, and thank god, it was indeed the battery, just had a hunch, the battery was acting weird, the wait for shipment was worth it, waiting for it to come while not knowing was indeed a risk, I absolutely didn't have the money to go and buy an upgrade right now, but the part was $6 eBay and waited and hope for 5 days, part came super early today and I followed this video and wasn't worried because battery was glued I mean super glued on but switch it out, and THANK GOD SERIOUSLY, MY iPhone is back on and ready to go at 76% so lucky for me, it was the battery, GOOD LUCK EVERYONE ELSE. It's WORTH DOING IT.
I seen in another video that you can pull the glue by pulling the 2 pads attached at one end of the battery - no need to heat up the phone. Is it correct?
Speed. Can't be 4 minutes if you need to spend 5 to pull the glue. If you try to do the whole repair in 4 minutes you'll rip the glue and prying will be required.
Great vid. Although the 6 is not powerful enough to use as a phone anymore I use it as an mp3 and this is the second time that I change the battery in this phone...UNBELIEVEABLE
Hi! Thanks for your great video. I need to ask a question. Is it possible to damage cellular reception when removing or replacing the battery. I went to a discounted service. My cellular is not working. It was fine before. The phone worked fine.
1.Original battery - battery health is 100%+/-3% positive, cycle times: 0-3 times(Check battery usage and serial number with itools on PC) 2.True and false distinction: The battery on the original machine must be three yards in one. The three codes are as follows: 1. Serial number of the battery surface 2. The QR code above the battery 3. Serial number recorded in the battery protection board (scan the QR code using the software i-nigma software)
I had an Alcatel Flip Phone, with a tool less replaceable battery. I began using an iPhone 6 in 2017. Since there are no more updates for this phone, I wonder how long it will last? Replacing the battery is a quick way to give it some new life, but probably not as a main phone anymore.
Thanks so much for this video! i wanted to replace my terrible battery, but didn't want to pay for someone else to replace it for me, and without this video, i would have been lost :)
he is not kidding about the glue, but if your battery is fully discharged, and you don't have a heat gun, you can heat over the oven (lightly) and use a butter knife as a pry-tool. Worked for me
Great tutorial.... Another tip, if you dont have hot gun... use hair dryer or your car vent with full heat and all other vents closed. It worked perfectly....
Fabulous video. Took me a bit more than 4 mins but I succeeded. I did warm up the back of the phone to loosen the glue without any problem. The screws are very small so I had bought a suitable tool kit for the iPhone.
Dear Sir. This video helped me change a battery. I found it very helpful. Thank you for the effort and for sharing the knowledge. You sir are awesome. Best regards // Ehsan.
A suggestion- put an image of any critical info - like the special screwdrivers in the video. “In the comments sounds good to start but years later, and 2.5k comments, it’s hard to find. :-)
Looks like the battery is glued same way as in the 6S with the two glue-strips. If so you can easily drag both strips out from the side and no need to heat it too.
Hey Jerry - I got a diagnostic done and I need both the charging port and the battery replaced. It costs around 100$ so I was thinking about doing it myself. Any procedural suggestions?
I’m hoping to find a tech or anyone who knows a lot in this industry to give me an advice. I’m using a 5 year old iPhone 6, going absolutely fine except after replacing the broken screen with a ‘fake’ LCD, the battery performance went pretty rubbish. I’ve been still using it like that for over a year now. The battery has gone even worse and I’m thinking about replacing the battery. Would it be worth doing it though with the same battery eating screen? Or should I just get a new phone?
I just found out that you don't have to remove the top right corner 5 little screws in order to change the battery. It will be enough to change the battery by just remove the right bot corner 2 screws. I just did it.
