Tutorial / Walk-Through: Replace your iPhone 6S battery in 20 minutes, a DIY video by Scandi Tech!
Buy our battery replacement kit for iPhone 6S on Amazon.com:
With tools: www.amazon.com/...
Battery only, no tools: www.amazon.com/...
NOTE:
In this video we show how to replace an iPhone 6S battery by removing the front assembly completely. This is not necessary but most first time technicians find it easier to work with both hands free. If you proceed by not removing the front assembly, it needs to be held securely at a 90 degree angle or the cables can get damaged or tear. This results in loss of LCD, touch or front camera functionality.
We urge everyone to also read our text/image instructions before attempting the battery replacement as it can get tricky and if not done correctly, there is a risk of damaging various components.

*****
We made this video to show everyone that it doesn't take an Apple-genius or a highly trained technician to remove and replace an iPhone 6S battery - anyone can do it!
A battery in an iPhone 6S, or any smartphone for that matter, works like any other battery - it wears out with time. After about 300 cycles, i.e. 300 full charges and discharges, a significant drop in performance is noticeable. The older and more used the battery gets, the more obvious is the performance drop. In the end the phone can end up shutting down when the battery percentage drops below 10-20%. In this case a fresh, new battery brings the phone back to life.
In some cases the battery swells. This results in the glass/digitizer lifting from its frame. If the battery is very swollen, it's not uncommon that a gap is apparent between the glass and the metal back assembly. This problem can also be fixed by replacing the battery.
*****
Product info:
The iPhone 6S battery replacement kit linked in the description is a complete kit with battery, tools and instructions - everything you need to get the battery replacement done!
Our batteries are manually tested before they leaves our quality control center and they are packaged in a ESD safe bag before placed between two layers of protective foam. The tools are carefully chosen to make the battery replacement process as easy and smooth as possible. We've also chosen to include metal tweezers as it's a very handy tool and can be used both to open the phone as well as picking up screws and other small parts inside the phone.

*This battery reconditioning program exceeded my presumptions. It worked on any drill battery, several AA and AAA batteries, **batery.repair** and any camera battery. The steps are simple and the act itself is exciting to do. No matter what type of battery you`ve got, it is sure to function again!*

Making use of the ru-vid.comUgkxcJ22tnHH9l1vjdIdEIG27iOG55P7LXI8 reconditioning plan, I just saved 2 auto batteries from being completely junked. The guides were very simple to follow. I wish I would have found this years ago! You may use the guide to recondition any battery type

Although a very detailed and comprehensive video, I would suggest that there is no need to remove the screen and risk breaking other connectors. I used an old book end (or anything similar will work) and put an elastic band around it and the LCD to keep the LCD up at 90 degrees while working on battery. This also prevents possible error of connecting battery in wrong sequence with screen and shorting your screen, which it seems many people have done.. Just changed battery in my son's 6s a few minutes ago for first time ever and took me less than 10 mins without having to remove the LCD screen.

Hi there, Thanks for the suggestion. We did mention a few steps to do this and one is letting the screen lean on to something secure and stable. It will all boil down on which method one is comfortable in using. We have discussed this in our guide at www.scandi.tech -John

So you only disconnected the battery, replaced it and connected the battery again?

Your "book end" technique made replacement much easier for me. I taped a cloth round a metal bookend so it wouldn't scratch the screen or back, then taped the screen to the bookend (regular or blue tape, not Gorilla or other superstrength tapes). From there it was easy.

Excellent guide. Pulling the adhesive strips didn't really work for me, I just had to keep applying heat and work the battery up a little at a time. Thanks guys, very good! 10/10.

Thanks it was really well explained, I succeeded ! I liked the zoom when you remove the display, other vids don't show that as clearly. I only had a bit of trouble when replacing the battery as the connector wasn't "bent" like the original one, i had to bend it a bit. And also when replacing the display, i found it easier to bring the display towards me (like 70 degrees angle) to put the metal plate back, at a 90 degrees angle it was too hard.

Thank you for the thorough and clear instructions! I would have liked a little explanation on what to aim for in the heat range for the adhesive, and some mention of the gasket would have been nice. However, I was able to successfully replace my battery, fairly easily thanks to this video.

Manufacturers don't recommend heating the back of the phone, the tape wlll come out cleanly if you just pull straight out toward the home button and up at a less than 60º angle to the phone. Prying can damage the battery and potentially cause a fire -- see "t-pain" below! Blessings!

Thanks for the nice professional demo. My screen was impossible (nearly impossible) to open. The 6s was released in September of 2015 and in April 2020 we are getting close to 5 years old, and when I finally, carefully, frustratingly got it open, it had a stock, untouched, original Apple battery. The pull tabs for the adhesive strips were NOT folded towards the bottom for easy access, they were wrapped up over the battery towards the top of the phone, and the black "end" of the white tabs covered and hid the adhesive tabs really well - I didn't recognize them at first. Unlike in your video, one I had uncovered the white strips I just pulled them straight out and though they got really really long didn't snap and break on me. From there replacement was a breeze. I used the "book end" method described by Lucarvian in the comments to keep the screen from exceeding the 90 degree limit. I note that some other installers who remove the screen cables advise NOT pushing on the connectors at the middle, only from one end then the other end otherwise the screens have problems (in your video you did have problems but removing and replacing fixed them). Positioning the battery is a little tricky. The replacement adhesive strips are really grippy and don't allow repositioning. So I tried connecting the battery using the adhesive strips just to know where in the slightly oversized battery slot the battery should be replaced. Unfortunately I didn't position the adhesive strips correctly - I put them in upside down. When installed correctly, the removal tabs should be accessible on top (hence, wrapped around the bottom of the battery and barely extending over the front edge) for future replacements. Guess any future battery replacement will have to be "brute force".

Hi Michael, Sounds like you had fun with the little DIY project. It's nice that, despite the age of your phone, the adhesives were easy to remove. Some devices tend to have stubborn adhesives. The 90 degree method works as long as the object the screen is leaning on is stable and the phone screen is secured. The only thing to keep in mind is to make sure that the flex cables are not stretched or folded. The slightest tension could potentially damage the phone screen. This is why we recommend removing the phone screen to prevent issues and also to make the whole process worry-free.

Hi there, Which screw was it? These are so tiny that even a slight gust from your breath can blow one away. You can probably ask for one screw from a local repair shop. They'd probably give it for free. ha!

I watched several videos - if I could only watch one, this would be it. Definitely disconnect and remove the top half ( with screen) of the phone before removing battery as quite a bit of handling of the bottom half can be needed to get the battery out.

You make it too complicated just unscrew the 2 screws bottom then straight pull the adhesive on battery done no heat gun needed I replaced mine in less than 5 minutes
@ScandiTech
@ScandiTech 4 года назад
Hi there, Thank you for leaving a comment. Yes, the adhesive can be pulled straight out albeit gently but there are times where the adhesive is stubborn. This is where the heat gun comes in. It softens the adhesives so that it can be pulled out easier.

Is there any reason you don’t remove the Taptic Engine? It would enable you to pull the adhesive strips straight out if you did

Hi there, There is no particular reason to remove the taptic engine as the adhesives can still be pulled out with it still installed.

@ScandiTech
@ScandiTech 4 года назад
Hi there, Are you in the testing phase? If so, you don't really need to close the phone when testing. We just need to see if the new battery is working. Once the new battery (still sitting on top of the old) has been connected to the phone, turn on the device and check if the screen and all its functions are working. If confirmed working, you can turn off the phone and continue with the process. You do not have to completely close the device during testing.

*My wife's iphone 6 plus earphone audio was problem free until I changed the depleted battery. The iphone is fine and functioning in every respect with the new battery except in 2 respects. (1) The earphone speaker sound stops intermittently and has cracking sound. The volume controls are not functioning as normal. (2) On a few occasions, temperature warning came on and I had to turn off the phone. Does anybody know what I might have done wrong when changing the battery? I have tried reconnecting the display to ensure proper contacts but the audio problem remains.*

You are supposed to pull the tabs out parallel to the phone, not sideways, thats why the second one broke.

What Temp should the Heat Gun be at ?
@ScandiTech
@ScandiTech 4 года назад
Hi there, Thank you for asking. We don't usually check the exact temperature but as a rule of thumb, if it is HOT to touch, you are heating it too much. The adhesives soften quickly and do not need long exposures to heat. Regards, John Scandi Tech

Removing all those upper connectors is a recipe for disaster. I use a metal, 90d bookend with an elastic band to hold the screen up vertically at 90d. I only need to remove the battery plate. I then warm the phone with a wheat pack heated in the microwave, then slowly, the battery can be leveraged out using a flat edge.
