Well all seems like mixed ideas. However i have just successfully repaired the Audio IC thanks to your video. I practiced on an icloud locked board. then gave it a shot on the damaged one. I have just got new microscope and tools so i am a newbie. I just want to say thanks so much for taking the time to make such a clear and informative video

Since the first day I have been doing it like this- I bought 10 pcs new audio ic, when I do audio ic repair I put the board on a preheater, take off the chip and put it in a bag (when I have 10pcs in the bag I reball them all) I clean the pads just with the soldering iron, I only do one jumper, put in the new IC and the job is done, it takes around 15minutes.. I have done about 50 audio ic repairs and Ive never done more than one jumper and I never got any of the phones back...:)

I wedge my tweezer under the bottom right corner. 370/50 on the quick and it pops right off, not all pads molton either :) Sometimes 1 jumper sometimes all 4. Depends if I see the other pads move or not... Ps. Your local'ish fellow microsolderer in Lurgan lol

I have had people come back even with 4 jumpers but I have done alot. It also depends what kind of wire is being used. The thicker Chinese jumper wire will not last.

Hello. to fix pin C12 audio and do not need to remove it, you can insert a wire. the thread is inserted through the side of the audio chip by removing the bumpers (only the nand side) and r3201. this variant is tested and running, it raises the risk of disturbing the baseband, in only 10min.

Please post a picture or video or explain slightly more, does this mean no need to unsolder the board. Can I just place a wire and solder that. I am slightly technical but have no experience micro soldering or desire to. However if I only need to solder one wire this will be so much easier than unsoldering and resoldering the entire board

R3201 is the size of a grain of pepper. To actually perform this method you’d have to get that guy back off and on in a really tight spot. It would be far easier to learn to take the chip off and put back on

I don’t have my own repair shop , and I definitely do not have tools to micro solder, I just really enjoy learning the little tricks that you guys use to fix phones, And I thank you for fixing mine. I am very disappointed in apple for making such a shitty “ premium” product. From watching your videos, I was well aware of what went wrong with this phone but Criminal *cough* Apple still wanted $250 to “evaluate” what problem this phone had when it was just 3 months out of warranty, plus the cost of the repair, If I ever have the same problem with another phone at least I know where to send it. Thanks so much!

Great job , mark is always have tricks, Here is one for you. The iPhone 4 vibrator wire is very sensitive and not easy to work with I would advise you to try out the wire inside of Samsung Antenna cable much smaller and much stronger that the vibrator one

Why not add some electrical silicone to the edging frame (closer to the sim card ) to add more suppor , that way can avoid this issue happening again

I've found that some aftermarket front camera flex cables have caused the same no audio slow boot symptoms but obviously if you have never changed the front flex then it will be the IC

I think what we really need is training. We have a $3000 camera, and two $500 cameras, green screen, and a mess of cords, and some crappy tripods. If a camera guy wants to come show us how to help our YT setup, we are always open :)

Ha ha ha. I love Louis, and you can thank him for forcing me to buy this camera that has no audio input, and making me buy the $600 microphone with no way to connect to anything and then after two years finally getting it set up only to find that everyone prefers the $30 set up. Louis needs to get on his fancy Bafang and get his ass to Rochester to set all this up properly. I really honestly think I got less complaints when I was still using his old Sony camcorder that you had to hold closed with a pin.

Use alot of Amtech flex and don't use excess heat. Most of the problem is the solder ball breaking under the IC from the tracing pulling on the ball. 95% of the time a nice Amtech flux reflow will bond the ball again. Give each corner a very small tap to get the solder flowing in each direction. Check for shorts before powering. If there is a short after powering you will need to replace the IC. Over all the audio IC I have done. Only 2 of them had broken tracing. Test reflowing the IC on a known working iPhone first before attempting this repair on a customers iPhone. Always ...Always try reflowing first. This will be the best solution as you will only need to heat the board one time. Apple Solder Sucks!!!

That has not been our experience with any of the flexion-based defects. The problem is ALWAYS the trace pulling up from the board. Reflow can't help strength the floppy trace.

@@JessaJones We repaired hundreds of these Audio IC issue, and most of the time (90%) is the solder joint broke, not the trace on c12.

Although your post is 3 years old, I felt compelled to comment because I did the same thing without reading your post and I dont do repairs. I came across with this issue on my iPhone 7 this year 2022 lol ( the phone is still fast in my view and until I had the issue I was clueless about the issue for these 7 models on the IC chip ). I decided to do the reflow first obviously hoping to rebuild the connections by using flux. I did not even bother to remove the chip. Just laid the flux on the sides and with a heat gun worked my way to pushing the flux and then applied the gun on the chip. Worked flawlessly. If that had failed, I knew I would have to do the jumper fix.

my microphone on iphone 7 is really strange. It is working for a while and then it just stop. It have no reason. We tried to replace it but it was not working. It is not worth repairing iPhone 7 it will probably fail again. Buying a new phone is a good choice.

Possible yes, if you're good enough you can do the entire process blindfolded with your feet, but I wouldn't recommend it.

I love your synopsis of what's happening with that IC... "The flexy thing" you're talking shit! I'd love to know where you earned your certification. That IC doesn't move in the circuit, nothing flexes! Whats happening here is Expansion and Contraction, from heat. The entire IC expands when its hot and contracts when cold. Good old Apple has used substandard materials in manufacture. That IC should be soldered with pure silver on pad C12. Why does that contact go bad in particular? It's a combination of the control frequency, garbage lead based solder, and the constant expansion and contraction of the IC. If Apple had used pure silver through the entire baseband carrier/logic control, this wouldn't be an issue.

On what evidence? How can your heat theory explain why it is that the entire 12 row will have floppy pads on any pad served by a top layer side trace, but all other rows are firm. Flexion based damage makes the most sense

iPad Rehab think better about what you’re saying. Don’t try and get all technical so you can throw most 12 year olds. I been an engineer for 36 years and what you’re saying makes 0 sense in any logical thought level. Do you want to get into a conversation about degradation effects of high frequency passed through lead based tin solder? My heat theory isn’t a theory, it’s reality and it’s what is occurring to that IC. Pure silver doesn’t suffer the degradation effects and resists heat therefore reducing the effects of thermal expansion.

You also mention the relevance of the SIM card slot position and the forces of the card on the board...there is approx .0025n of force exerted to the system board at peak compression of the contact ledges in the slot. That’s nearly nothing, certainly not enough to unseat the IC even in the worst thermal condition. Nothing moves within the phones on the system board.

What I love is how you jump straight into full-on attack mode just because you disagree, instead of asking and having a discussion in a humane manner on why they diagnose something as X whereas you diagnose it as Y because your experience tells you so. In my opinion, you flash certification and experience, but you lack seniority in your trade, which almost always matters way more. Seniority is something you earn when you (amongst few other things) stop treating anyone else like an idiot and realize that we've all been there at some point, and while iPad Rehab MIGHT be wrong here (I doubt it, but that's my opinion), they are the ones displaying seniority and are trying to help the community understand (and possibly even solve their own) problems. I do not see you adding any community value here. Anyway, what am I doing wasting my time trying to show someone on the hecking internet why their behaviour is wrong and utterly useless. I'm going outside, enjoy life. I suggest y'all do the same.
