I had the same problem on my iPhone 7, so taking advantage of my sister's trip to Miami I had it reviewed in an applestore, they said they would solve my problem for free, but my surprise was great when I received a receipt for 300 dollars, so here I have it of paperweight

I was having this issue. I fixed it by slamming it on the carpeted floor flushed, on the flat sides, a couple times. Not hard enough to crack the screen, yet still hard enough. And haven’t had an issue ever since with it losing service and saying it needs an update to work again. So I think the real issue has to do with whatever component reads the sim is slightly off centered or something. Slamming it kinda set it back into place where it s supposed to be.

Just make sure you have no "liquid damage". Even if you have a phone with THIS problem, qualifies based on model and timeline of recall, AND no other evidence of liquid damage, they will not repair it for free. They know the problem, but if the little indicator by the ear speaker (you know, where you might sweat and answer a phone call) is red, then it's "liquid damage". Voids the warranty. I know this from experience, because my phone has never been near water when this issue started happening. I get it, if it's water damaged, the logic board is a pain to repair the issue (if micro-soldering the logic board), but everyone says apple doesn't bother repairing the logic board. So many factors add up to making me assume: Apple messed up badly, and they are doing their best to not pay for it by finding as many ways out from free repairs. OH, and yes, you find out if it truly qualifies for a "free" repair once opened by the technician outside of their Apple store, so they hope you go "well, shit, I already sent it and they have it, and I NEED a phone, so just fix it...here's my money." The repair is $319 for anyone who wants to know, btw. LOL.

go to the apple store does not help me during quarantine. apple online said it was not a free replacement, told it was 449 for the same phone.

I was told by the first customer service rep that as long as the phone did not have liquid damage, they would fix it for me for free since the problem was on their end. It took them four days to identify that the camera lens was cracked and the dock connector was damaged. I spoke to a senior adviser this time around and said there wasn't anything they could do. Even though those two things had nothing to do with the problem on their end. They tried to charge me $307 to fix it. Here's the kicker, I could get a totally new iPhone 7 for $300. Absolute sham! They screwed up and they don't want to ante up the cash to fix it. Now here I am with a absolutely useless iPhone.

These affected models should have been officially recalled and destroyed, my iPhone 7 does this periodically now and there is definitely no way to get it replaced or fixed, but what happens is the service comes back by itself after a while, i don't know why it only started doing this within the last 2 weeks.

Mine is pretty old, so I’m not sure if they will let me switch it... Is there no other solution?

I had model A1660. It had this happen so I called Apple, and bc it was within 4 years of purchase, they forwarded me to a supervisor that scheduled me to drop it off. Apple went through the phone and surprisingly agreed to replace it… with THE SAME MODEL NUMBER. It works w/ calls but the internet signal is weak. Internet signal won’t work inside of my house and is either lightning fast outside or nothing at all… why would they replace it with another device that is from the same recall????? Now I have no idea what to do……..

My iphone (a1660) was working today, until I got tempted to updated it to the latest ios 12 and I'm stuck with this problem. I opened my iphone for screen replacement which voids the warranty, can I still exchange it? If not, I'm screwed :(

THIS VIDEO IS FALSE. I just went to the Apple store, schedule an appointment, met with a technician, and they said I’d have to pay to fix it. Because my phone battery is old and my screen is cracked they told me I would have to pay $350 for a whole new unit. Even though this phone was “recalled” because of the excess damage they could not fix my no service issue.

I just had this happen to me right after a IOS update and took it to Verizon yesterday. Another dude came in at the same time with the exact same problem. Kind of coincidental....hmmmm. Hopefully they hold up to the free replacement. Thanks for the video.

What is the damn Apple store is in a city miles away

The problem being that any cosmetic damage to your screen and Apple will not repair the no service issue. I have a one cm crack on the top of the screen, out of the viewable area and Apple would not repair the service problem. The issues are unrelated and the crack is old and has no impact on the functionality of the phone, but not only was I refused, but I was treated poorly. I am reconsidering purchasing Apple products in the future.

Does anyone know how to fix it, it happened just earlier when I tried to update my phone to iOS 12. If no one knows, I’m just going to bring it to the Verizon store tomorrow Edit (two weeks later): 2 days after i wrote this, I figured out that if you have a certain model of a 6 or a 7, your phone is broken, i would recommend bringing it to your local store such as a Verizon store, so they can tell you. If this is the case they will give you a completely new phone for free

We dont have apple store near by but we have powermac. I went to their store abd i was referred to PowerMac Service center in Quezon City. I went there and show my phone, but when they checked, they said i should bring it to the country where it was bought because the model number is no longer part of their coverage. It was a gift from the US so they wanted me to bring it to US. So inconvenient.

Apple garbage store refuse to fix it I have 4 devices and each of the devices was rejected for a stupid reason one was "unauthorised modifications " which make no sense but they still refuse to fix they know the motherboard is faulty and its the device they sold is defective but refuse to fix apple supervisor told me the only solution will be to through the device in the garbage, is there any way to fix this issue without apple scam store ?

They said that in my country (Chile) the program is not currently working to change my iphone. They said me that i have to send the phone to brasil or usa.
