It is well known that Touch ID chip is exclusively matched with the motherboard. If change a new home button only, the Touch ID function disappears as the unique chip is also changed. So if the home button is unfortunately broken, how can we repair it without losing Touch ID? Here is the solution for iPhone 7 home button replacement/repair.

If your button is damaged by water or liquid, just use a blow dryer (hair dryer) and gently blow some heat where the charger goes. Do this for 5 minutes, let it cool off then repeat the process. Eventually it will going to work. If it’s other issue this fix won’t help you but it’s worth a try.

TheArtsOfSense lmao I have the tools for my phone and I know how to do it , but the point is if I tried I know I’m going to mess up I have a low vision and that makes me unfocused I don’t know why but if your unable to see good your brain won’t memorize good or focus that’s what my doctor told me lmao I don’t if she lied to me or no. I used to do component level repair on laptops and desktops back in late 90’s but we didn’t have to deal with such small ribbon cables! Nice video. Keep up the good work. Repair don’t replace 👍🏻

Edilson Rodrigues. It all depends. You need to test the diode value of each pin on fingerprint connector to check first.

What kind of double sided tape do you use? I know its from 3M, but there's a lot of them out there. Or which one do you recommend for repairing?

R A Use the one that has red plastic labeled covered adhesive. That's the one I use. Very strong. Doesn't need to be 3M, but the stickiest one is the one that has yellow plastic cover label. Don't recommend that one unless you really want to stick something very well that you know it would be easy to come apart.

The touch ID function only works with the original home button. You will lose it after home button replacement.

My iPhone 7 has the same issue, but not the damaged flex cable. It's the original Home Button and the issue started when I opened the phone, and then close it after. I just checked if the battery is swollen, then close it after. And got the error message "Cannot activate Touch ID"... how to fix this? Can you help me?

The cost of repairing of this is much more expensive than the home button costs itself. Home Button Buying by Ebay for 10 Dollars. Then under settings simply register the touch ID. You can break more, than you can repair something if you have no experience with that. Easiest and simple Way is: Buy a Home-Button and register it by Touch-ID Settings.

Touch ID is paired to the CPU. It can only be reprogrammed by Apple. And on the iPhone 7 and 8 series, the home button functionality is also paired to the CPU and a new home button will be completely non functional. This method is actually much cheaper than taking it to Apple because Apple will not replace the home button individually but charge the price for an entire screen replacement. I hope one day a home button flasher will become available similar to the ones they have for the NANDs (storage chips) since those are also paired to their CPUs but can be reprogrammed with a machine and put on another board.

Hi, for iphone 6s, i checked the home button and there isnt any damage. Is there possibility that the damage is at the display assembly cable? One of the 3 cables from the display is responsible for the sensor right?

Hi Farzand Amanat Bhatti. Thanks for your comments. The Touch ID function of the iPhone 7 home button is bonded with the motherboard. Even the button is original, you can't restore its touch ID function if it is not the one it out of the factory with.

Does this work with the 6s as well? I don’t think I have torn my ribbon cable while replacing my lcd once, but Touch ID is just not working anymore, the physical button however still is. Is it perhaps because I unplugged the ribbon cable once while the phone still wasn’t completely turned off?

1. Did you apply a new home button or the original one? Please use the original home button if you want to keep the touch ID function. 2. Disconnect the battery and then re-connect it. 3. For 6s, the home button repair process is a little different with iPhone 7, because they come with different flex cable structure.

I have always kept my original home button on my device, touch id just suddenly stopped working after opening up the device a while back. The flex cable does not have any tears in it though. Could a broken Touch ID IC on the mainboard be the issue? Thanks

Hi I have an iPad Pro 12.9 motherboard (working) without a home button (Touch ID)which I’m going to use to change a motherboard of a non working iPad Pro 12.9. Can I reuse the home button from the damaged one on the working one?? I know the Touch ID won’t work but will it function just as a home button?? Suraj Rattan you can replace the button and get back button functionality but no touch ID. or swap the whole entire motherboard with one that comes with the original touch ID home button. go to Apple if you can

Hello :) I know my question doesnt has much to do with the actual topic, but I dont know where else I can find help, so im gonna try it here :D So my front Camera is not working after a screen replacement and I have no clue, what the problem could be since I already tried an new front facetime flex. Its only the facetime camera, which is not working.The other parts of this flex are working: proximity sensor & earpiece speaker. Everything else on this iPhone 7 Plus works perfectly fine. Any suggestions? Best Regards :-)
