Note 8 is better to recording sound :) but iPhone has better colours on video... That's problem....

Casey explained earlier that he is biased towards Samsung But I think he really was unbiased and showed us the true picture. Both literally and metaphorically! Your hardwork for vlogs really inspires man!

Casey, I am blown away by both. It is simply amazing that such great video is possible with a smartphone​. I am still sporting the iPhone 6+ and holding off for the iPhone X. Even though I am all iPhone and wouldn't consider switching, audio is important and from your video, Samsung has much better audio. I hope I can improve it in Adobe Audition.

A very simple work around for the SD card for Iphone is the Go Pro Adapter that allows you to import and Export Footage to and from an SD Card from a DSLR or Go Pro. With that said. I enjoy the camera from my Iphone 8plus and the slightly warmer tones. In addition the IMovie Suite allows those users a rather powerful “mobile” editing platform for run and gun Filmaking at events, expos, or overseas.

Not as easy as "better" and "worse". The _Iphone_ camera has a *wider range* or *brightness* it picks up. It also has *higher contrast* and *higher vibrance* , which gives it this warm-y film-ish feel. The _Samsung_ has a slightly more *cold* , blue-ish tint and the image seems flatter, as the dynamic range seems to be smaller. To counter that it has greater *eye adaption* , which is a little closer to how the human eye works; when it is bright inside and dark outside, the outside appears darker, while the inside appears brighter and when moving between inside and outside, the birghtness adapts accordingly (this can be seen in modern video games as well). Another difference in the image quality is the *sharpness* / *softness* . The _iPhone_ has a much *softer* image than the _Samsung_ . Again, this is *neither bad nor good* , just depending on your *preference* or *requirements* , one of the two might be more appropriate. One thing I noticed as well, is that the _iPhone_ *smoothens* out the images more with fast movement, which makes the video appear to be smoother or have more fps, while the _Samsung_ seemed a little jaggedy, not blending between frames as much. Again _Samsung_ approach, which sounds inferior, has advantages, as you will be much more likely able to stop a recorded video at any given moment and get a *sharp image* , while the _iPhone_ video will give you a more *blurred image* . So while I agree that the raw video material with the _iPhone_ looks better and more professional, I do think that the video material from the _Samsung_ has more potential and allowance for higher quality image editing. The color is much more vibrant on the iPhone8, and it had better focusing. The Note 8 had much better audio though.

*i love my note 8 the thing i have to get used to is the 360 cam i got with it. it's interesting trying to edit and post the 360 videos but i believe based on this test that the Samsung has the win here , the audio is SO much better on the note 8 and the colors are more true on the note 8. not really a fan of the iphone image at all it appears to add a harsh yellowing effect to the video and that's just not cool at all. Nice test rig too by the way. that was impressive! still happy with my note 8 only disappointment so far is the shorter battery life, not a deal breaker with the fast charger around*

For me the Note 8 wins. But one thing I noticed in the video(and Casey mentioned it as well), is that iPhone's video was warmer. My iPhone 7+ used to shoot much natural videos than the 8+. Note 8 sure is the winner here. I like to shoot 4k videos on my Note 8. The colors are more vibrant and the audio is far far better. Plus the front cam(which I rarely ever use) is much better. And that dual OIS sure does help.

Can't go wrong with either one but Apple really need to do something about their mics. The audio on the iPhone is frustrating, every review I watched it's the same issue.

iPhone has the best quality. The note seems really faded with colour. Little quality loss there as well. However, the note has much better audio.

I have the note 8, and the camera is insane, it's so awesome, the note 8 doesn't look as good on youtube because RU-vid only does 1080p on phone so you can't tell how awesome it actually is, especially indoors

Both are slightly different because of color saturation. Also note has noice cancelation.

The iPhone is indeed better for indoor recording as well as recording vlogs, etc. But if you were to film a so-called movie, the Note would be a much better option.

Audio is so much better on the Note 8!! I havn't had an iphone for years but I've been curious about the 8+, camera is great but that audio is a bit of let down!

I definitely think both phones have great quality. Obviously one phone will have advantages for specific shot. So I think they are both great in their respective right. I'm just glad whatever phone you go with, they don't hold back on great features and great quality whether you get an iPhone or a Samsung. Although I will say, I prefer the Samsung's Audio a tad bit more. It seems a bit more full sounding. Great comparison video, Casey! I'll definitely have a hard time choosing my next phone.

I like the iPhone camera but note mic

The iPhone has a nicer depth of color but the sound is trash. iPhone has better motion capture as well, but I just can't get past the sound. I guess that's because I'm a trained sound engineer and not a vlogger.

Overall the iPhone has a slight edge but the note's mic though :0

i would say the iphone 8 has nicer colour and handles the light well INSIDE, BUT the Note 8 has a nicer dim to it outside which makes it look smoother;

Casey!! In the future when you're editing side by side just line up both videos from start to finish and create a new compound clip in final cut. You can then do all of your edits. Once your done with timing open up the compound clip to adjust the crop!! Boom quick side by side editing! :)

THe samsung sound quality is significantly better on the samsung. But I like the iPhone camera especially indoors.

iPhone for the vid note for the audio

Biggest flaw with this is that you can't show the 4k at 60fps iPhone is capable of shooting in a 1440p at 30fps RU-vid video. When you see it irl it's a huge difference. Very smooth and clean looking. I'm not an Apple sheep by any means, but once I saw that video quality in person it was no contest for me.

well I guess what casey means by saying unedited that is he didn't do anything but these mobile devices already have built-in algorithms editing images by default. The flash light test proves that iphone definitely have some operation such as contrast enhancement. So the final judgement is not only on the "camera" but also the quality of the algorithms editing the frames. A camera with no algorithm editing the frames may be better in some sense since a manual editor can make more specific changes on the frames. Furthermore, it is actually not an accurate comparison since youtube videos are compressed and therefore distorted.

Video Quality on the iPhone is better but sound quality on the Note is much better.

Note 8 looks better for grading as the colors look flat and neutral. Iphone 8+ have a warmer tone to it. Audio is definitely better on the Note 8.
