One point you are missing is you can't select a cheaper monthly plans with phone option. Most of us doesn't need more than 50 CAD plan as people tend to use 6GB avg per month. By paying 30 CAD more for a phone plan ultimately you are paying more If you weigh in this PHONE IS NOT CHEAP YOU WILL PAY 720 CAD MORE.

I would agree and disagree. If you’re someone who’s phone is unusable and needs a new phone. Getting a phone plan is smart. You can pair any phone with any plan. I work for Canada’s biggest mobility service company and you can pair a 50$ plan with any phone you want. Really depends on individual needs. I know someone’s who uses a 15$ plan only 100 minutes of calling thats it.

His point was instead of spending your 1000 CAD at one shot, you can split it in 50-50, and further divide 500 in 21$/month. So someone with less purchasing power can buy a decent smartphone and pay back without drilling his wallet.

Also, carriers offer $5 discount on plans if you have your own phone. This sums up to $120 for 2 years. If you buy directly from Apple using their EMI option they charge around $100 interest. So ultimately you are paying more through carrier and are bound to their contract for 2 years.

Indian credit history has zero relavance here. You start from scratch. Dont worry if your bank issues you a credit car today, you can finance a phone tomorrow.

Its your responsibility to keep your phone safe and up to date. You will either keep paying for the device that’s not in a working condition or you could buy out your contract of what’s left. Unless you have insurance.
