Wesahugo it really isn’t worth to down grade at all the se is I coming to maybe it last year of support by apple your XS is an excellent phone you’d miss it, I have an xr as my daily but like to go on my SE sometimes, you should keep your XS and buy a an SE for 50-100 pounds or dollars

You may think it's nicer to have a big screen but you have to remember that those who don't go for big screen phones do so because of ease of one handed use. To a lot of users, this is a primary reason why they want this phone.

Ryan Town nope. Big phones are annoying and cumbersome and arent comfortable to hold at all. Even if you do have bigger hands. The bigger screensize on the newer phones now is great... but it comes at the price of comfortably. And thats a serious price to pay just for a larger screen. Not worth it at all. So youre wrong. But we all have our own opinions so thats ok :)

100% facts. Apple messed up... again, by not keeping this phone at its original size. They could have kept the newer curved design but just made it the same size as the original se. (Thats the whole point we went for the se in the first place) and it would have been soo awesome... but they fucked up. They always fuck up.

I chose the 2016 Iphone SE this year as my first smartphone. Bought it renewed on Amazon. It's main attraction was its compact size. I like all the upgrades the 2020 has to offer, but what I have still works fantastic for me.

Great video. I've had the 64 GB model since 2016, and it's easily the best phone I've ever owned. I also own a 6, a 7 Plus, and an 8 Plus, and other than the slightly louder speakers and better camera on the 8 Plus, I see no difference in performance. The SE, as you mentioned, shoots 4K video (which seems pretty insane for 2016) and the display quality doesn't matter since the screen is so small. I find it to be lightning fast for everything I use it for. As an added bonus, I got mine as a free upgrade from Verizon! Like you said, the quality is amazing; like you, I also love the buttons. These phones are incredibly tough. They don't have glass backs and can take a ridiculous beating. I replaced the battery in mine today with a 2200 mAh (it had been running at 83% but seemed to draining very quickly--within a day) and I also replaced the screen protector after the other one cracked after a particularly rough night of abuse. The screen itself is still perfect, as is the rest of the phone. It literally looks brand-new, and now I have an even better battery than it originally came with (all for $23 on Amazon). As for the size, I use my laptop for most stuff, so I don't need a huge screen on my phone. I've never had a problem texting on it, Facetiming, watching videos, etc., although I certainly prefer my 8 Plus for longer viewing (while, say, bored at work). I wear my SE in my front pocket and find the Plus models to be impractical for a dude. So, all said, I have to reason to upgrade to a newer phone. Oh, and I just updated to 14.0.1. Booyah!

Thanks for posting this. We're a bunch of rare people who still love that compact design. I'm still rocking my SE and it runs like a champ, minus the 2 camera which is not very big deal for me as I don't take many pictures and I still have my iPhone XR as a backup. Got the battery on my SE replaced and with data, bluetooth and location services turned on it still gives me around 3-4 hours of screen on time, which I think is fantastic. Looking forward to iOS 15 on this little beauty.

November 2022, I'm using a SE Gen1 I bought NIB off ebay two years ago, replaced a 16g SE Gen1 , The newer SE still shows 100% battery, I just downloaded iOS 15.7.1 today, This little phone is beautiful. All metal, squared sides, real pocket size. I have basic usage needs so I don't need a new 800$ smart phone every two years.. Will be a sad day when I get forced to replace it..

I bought the iPhone SE in 2017, I still have it (32gb version) and I love it. The only thing I did is swapped out the battery, and it works like new. I really appreciate the new iPhone SE, it is literally perfect, Apple couldn’t have done a better job. Honestly I think this is going to be the best phone in 2020. Good job Apple, and good review :)

The new SE could have been better if Apple fill out the width of the old SE and keep the external size, then we would have a 4.5" screen but the same size phone. But this won't be cheap.

You just don’t get it man. The positives don’t outweigh anything. If its bigger screen is simply like having a 6, 8 ,11 or whatever the new same but different iPhone then it’s a fail. We don’t care about the size of screen for watching films. I’ve had the big Apple phablet house bricks and sold them. It’s not about price either. Apple simply don’t get it or understand - there are millions of people (yeah millions) who just want a 4.2’’ iPhone because it was and remains size perfection for serious adults that prioritise adult things and work- held easily in 1 hand and fit easily in pocket, bag or whatever ! Yes okay, with a new slim design if you must and new tech inside. Done! If not I’ll just buy another new old SE when this one dies which going by your review pointing out the same ergonomic fails I’ll be doing!

@@Hollowhalf17 Not that hard, I think, to change the battery yourself. I have done so on the iPhone 5 with iFixit guide and battery kit. The only difference on the SE is that you have to be careful lifting the display because of the ribbon connected to the touch ID home button. I will change it soon. That said, while I like my original SE, I have never been able to comfortably type on it. But my usage of my iPhone is very light throughout the day, so I see no need to upgrade. How wonderful that an iPhone gets so many updates throughout the years. It stil runs great. That battery, though, is really draining too fast right now.

I have two original iPhone SE purchased in 2016 that still meet my needs and will stay with them as long as they work on my carrier. I did order the SE2 to take look at it when they came out then returned it. Hopefully a version of the new SE will be around when I need a replacement. I don’t like the direction Apple is going and will stay with them as long as the old style is still available.

I'm going from an old iPhone SE to the new one, just waiting for its arrival. The size of these phones is definitely what makes me stick to them, plus the performance of the A13 Bionic on iOS in the new SE. A hell of an upgrade, if you ask me.

I remember when the original se came out in 2016 and I wanted it so bad but my mom didn’t want me to have a phone yet. I got the se 2nd gen in june 2020 and love it just as much. My mom recently got my brother an original se the other day. The nostalgia hit me hard I was so happy to see one of them again. If he breaks it I’ll be pissed at him

R u gonna get the se 2020? I have it and it’s rly good I upgraded from my big iPhone 7 Plus to it. One thing I HATE abt it is how small it is!! I can barely read anything (and yes I’ve set it to zoomed mode) although it’s prob bc my vision sucks XD

I still roll with my 2016 because I can text with one hand, and it’s much easier to grab in and out of pants pockets. I tried one of the big IPhone 6’s, and realized how much I don’t like “big” phones. Also, I REALLY enjoy my home button and head phone Jack. The fact that Apple decided to continually raise the price of their phones while taking away these two features bothered me. That would be like Toyota taking away power steering and windows. WHY WOULD YOU REMOVE THESE FEATURES??? ARRRHH. I have invested a lot into my head phones and I don’t feel like just throwing them away. What’s next, are they going to take our cameras away? Our cell phone capability so we have to go back to land lines??

I’ve had the 2016 SE for years, but the battery and storage are reaching their end. The new SE is probably what I will upgrade to. I will certainly miss the smaller size and the headphone jack... But it doesn’t seem like there are any other negatives. Gonna wait a bit before making the move.

Well, from what i see, many people seem not to happy with their Se 2020 purchase. Quite a few of them on the secondary market now. Anyway, nice comparison, But the Se 2016 still seems to attract my eye more more, maybe it is that beautiful housing.

A very good and informative video. I own both the original SE since 2016 and by a quirk of fate the new version. I like both and the original one has given me many years of good service. However time moves on and so does technology. The cameras on the new phone far outclass those from the 2016 model. The video performance is also impressive especially when used with a gimbal. I’ll still probably keep my venerable 2016 model but will probably use it for situations where I do not want to risk the new iPhone such as going out sailing or mountain biking.

I upgraded from a 2016 SE to a 2020 SE. i love that series. If a 4th SE comes (after the rumored 3rd SE or SE Plus), I’ll upgrade to that.

I’m still using the 2016 SE, and I know what you mean about the battery life. It’s pretty horrible. I’m planning on upgrading this year, and I am planning on either getting this one or the 11 if it has a solid price drop after the 12 comes out. After watching this video I think I would really enjoy it.

reizakagouken the shape is the only thing similar. The processor chip is from the iPhone 11 as long with the camera. It’s an iPhone 11 but smaller and 1 camera not 3. The speed and camera and battery run laps around the iPhone 8.

reizakagouken the iPhone 8 isn’t even that small just 3 years ago ppl were saying it has a big screen. These new screens are overkill looking like mini tablets.. I have a tablet I don’t need my phone to be one. Some ppl like phones that are actually ment for 1 hand and fit in your pocket rofl..

It's so funny to hear people talk about how they miss things like a fingerprint reader, when they were making fun of people who disliked the move to face ID. It feels like their word matters less, when they're swept away with whatever the latest trend is. If I were to mention how I didn't like that it didn't have a headphone jack, the same demeaning conversation would ensue. People are too fickle.

I 100% hated FaceID when it launched. I still hate it to this day 😅 I wish I had enough will power to stick with an older iPhone, but the other upgrades outweigh my frustrating with FaceID

@@TechDaily/videos Glad I wasn't the only one who didn't like Face ID (only thing I disliked more were curved screens), especially without a backup. I salute those who are trapped in the Apple ecosystem and don'rt have the resources/time/patient to try out Android. The iPhone X series felt like such a bomb from Apple, but instead of complaints, people just got quiet. I'm happy were past that now, but things like a headphone jack, or a fingerprint sensor, or other no nonsense features should take priority. Phones used to be tools we controlled and not something that controls us. Sorry for the rant. I actually like the SE (2020), but it don't like the way the tech community only looks forwards and not backwards.

@@qcdads/videos For me, someone who is admittedly kind of old school, I can't in good conscience commend Apple for the things they omitted. It feels like too big a step back for a budget phone, but I can't deny it's up there with the XR for entry iPhones. I think the biggest thing for me is it feels like settling and people are settling, and I see enough to to know they didn't have to settle.

Still on the 2016 SE , I've had a lot of people say to me how small it looks but i honestly never cared much bout it . It still looks beautiful, gets me more than decent photos and even snappier with the new update. I'm still holding on to it until it drops software support.

dank memer actually the SE has a far superior camera than the 6s plus. It’s faster, will last longer, has better battery, has a better camera, better operating system, wireless charging. Do NOT get the 6s plus now that’s a terrible buy. The SE is a lot better in terms of value and what you actually get in the phone. 6s is basically garbage now. Extremely slow, bad camera, bad battery, bad processor. I hope nobody takes ur advice lol 🤞

Had the og SE for 3 years now and upgraded to the new SE because I needed a better battery (just 4 hours) and I really really recommend the upgrade. It feel huge but comfortable, the hands-on experience is awesome coming from a 8 years old design, I feels refreshed, new and sooo premium. Cameras are awesome, the portrait mode works so well, battery... it could be better but not bad at all and the price point, to still using iOS, for social media, and read some papers it’s sooo convincing. I’m loving this phone.

Where i live, Apple still sells the iphone 6s for $350, the 7 for $440, the 8 for $520 The new se is $585 The 11 is $1000 The base 11 pro starts from $1400 The most expensive pro max models is north of $2000 No such thing as a Budget iPhone for us I laughed a lot when people called the xr and 11 "budget" iPhones Guess I ll be using my 3 year old se for 2 more years

MY iphone se was my first ever major purchase, when I was 12 I got in it August of 2016. I still love the phone and its design, I agree with everyone else whos says say its timeless and they should have kept the design again, but for me and I am sure many others the reason we still have them is since they work perfectly, I know mine has. Some time this year I will likely upgrade to it as my daily driver but I will still keep my SE till it dies fully and still use this great phone, I think the best smart phone ever.

the reasons i want the old se is because I have small hands, and love the smaller phone. i came from iPod 6 and love the size. the old se still has a headphone jack, and can still support the sim card, allowing it to be a phone, unlike iPod 6. also, the iPhone se old, is like 100 dollars at Walmart right now.

I just bought the new iPhone Se 2020 on Wednesday and love it. When I went to purchase it. the iPhone se 2020 was described as a hybrid between the iPhone 7 and iPhone 11. You have the iPhone 11 camera and the new iOS update and new iOS like features that would be on the 11 the only thing that is iPhone 7 like is the look! Just the back of your phone is glass. It’s fast and it’s one of apples best budget phones. This is coming from someone who came from Samsung! I don’t regret my purchase at all. I would recommend doing prior research like RU-vid reviews etc just to be sure this phone is the fit for you! Great video!!!

I've had my iPhone SE (Space Grey 64GB) since August 2018. When the Sept iPhones get announced, I'm mainly interested in the smaller one. Definitely upgrading this year! Almost bit on the SE 2020 model, and while it's a good value and all, can't get over the same design and am focused on the Face ID future of the mainline iPhones!

I bought a 2016 last month because tmobile is going VoLTE only. While I appreciate all of your points on upgrading, one cannot deny the difference in form factor and I know you mentioned that. Your mention of the larger screen benefits (youtube, games) isn't comparative. I could go to my PC if I want to do that stuff. I want a phone that doesn't take up my entire pocket. I want a phone not a tablet. The size creep of phones is ridiculous. I would buy the Sony compact phones if they weren't so damn expensive. Yet, I understand the annual business cycle of putting out "upgraded" phones. The problem, and the reason for size creep, is that battery technology is severely lagging behind. To power all the latest hardware while providing the battery longevity that people expect, the form factor of the phones have to get bigger and bigger.
