I own this phone and I love it... somehow I just don't need the most expensive latest thing... many of us don't, but the media sometimes makes you feel like you do, just buy what you need and spend what you should, not what you can :)
I think the SE could be the perfect phone for some people. For my dad is perfect. Is compact, works great, camera is good enough, he’s not using it all the time so the battery life is not a problem for him… Also, on the used market they get way cheaper. You can get a SE 2022 for like 300-350€ which I don’t think it’s a bad deal.
@@darkentity94 the iphone 13 has a good size with a very good battery life. I also like the Samsung S22. I'm disappointed that the pixel 6 and the upcoming 6a are that large..
Almost every word of this review isn’t aimed at this phones target audience. The phone is excellent, if expensive, for the people who will actually buy it. “Worst phone of the year” is ludicrous. Other than all that, I love you.
Why on earth would anyone want to buy the same phone a couple years on if they complain about battery life? What's ludicrous is that people think its a good idea to buy the same product they had with the same flaws, for more money.
I found my old 2016 Xiaomi Redmi 3 Pro a few days ago and was hit so hard by the nostalgia for such a small, light phone. It's almost exactly the same size as the iPhone SE, but the Xiaomi actually has a higher screen-to-body ratio - and significantly better battery life, going by the iPhone reviews. iPhone's got a 2018 mAh battery, the Xiaomi's got 4100 mAh... I've looked at the iPhone 13 Mini as well, but honestly I'm just not impressed. It's got great everything, doesn't even have the bezel issue, but battery life is an absolute deal breaker for me. Especially in these price ranges. I'll be getting the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G, it's cheaper, as light as the iPhone 13 Mini, smaller than my current giant phone, and looks like it'll have significantly better battery life. I'm holding out for the Xiaomi 12 Lite, but the 11 should be fine if my phone becomes unbearable before the 12 launch. I just don't care how good the camera/display/processor/whatever is if the battery isn't good. Buying a small phone and then having to carry around a battery pack... Been there, done that, never want to end up on a different continent with a phone so dependent on a separate battery pack ever again.
i have the mini, and i don’t find the battery life an issue despite using it more than 7+ hours a day. i havent really used an android full time but from what ive heard from watching some reviews the optimization of the chips makes up for it. probably better to do ur own research though, just what i heard
Battery life is very excellent for the price. I finish the day with 47% battery left. From 100%, 20min of video call brings me down to 90%. Throughout the day with social media scrolling, youtube, facebook, instagram; by 12 noon I got 76%. On the way home after work, same social media scrolling, some photos, youtube, spotify etc. I get home with 45-47% battery remaining.
I find it hard to believe it only gets 3-4 hours of screen on rims when quite a few reviewers said it gets 6 hours of screen on time. And the SE 2020 always got me 4 and a half to 5 hours of screen on time. And I’m beyond tired of people complaining about the design. If you like this phone you know what the design is going in. You won’t find a $430 android with flagship performance, build quality and the long term updates of the SE 2022. Gotta love it when a primarily android user trashes this phone because they clearly don’t get the concept for it. This is meant for users that like iPhone, Touch ID, want a phone that isn’t a $1000 and most importantly that lasts.
Battery life is great. I don’t know how these reviewers came up to this conclusion. I have just did another test, have used it for 47 minutes, battery dropped from 100 to 98 %. Standby time is also fantastic.
@@krns1617 the only thing I can think of is they must always be on 5g, playing games, playing music, using gps and using the camera for photos and videos heavily. Because with the previous model I was getting 4 and a half to 5 hours of screen on time. So this having a bigger battery and a more efficient a15 processor it should do great on battery.
Yes, now 2 hours and 9 minutes and the battery is at 81% (I have it already for a few days). Still like half hour standby time. I mean the case you describe these reviewers use, which phone last then long? It’s just mostly bashing. And I’m for sure no apple fanboy, it’s in fact my first iPhone. I’m just looking at it from a neutral point of view.
It might be not the best phone at its price anymore, but for those wanting to use Apple ecosystem and bringing an iPad wherever they go, this might be a good phone
@@Tristanator nah bigger doesn't always mean it's better and battery life bet se and 11 is just the same even if they have diff batt size. do your own research too
What Android rivals can match the A15… Answer none… You only mentioned the IP67 and wireless charging… I bought an IPhone SE 2020 to try iOS having in the past moved from Windows Phone to Android… Promptly sold every Android device I have… Am happy to have a phone with great build quality and performance that fits neatly into my jeans pocket… Not to mention the unrivalled software support…
Even for a major apple fan like me this phone is a tough pill to swallow. While the SE 2 was alright and good for many, the SE 3 is a little bit ridiculous. The battery life, the Display and also the camera since it doesn't sport a night mode or anything special for that matter. If I rly would want an iPhone I would definitely pick up an older iPhone 11 or something
You can cry and bitch about this phone all you want, but I have no ills or quarrels! I lost my iphone 12 so I used my old iPhone 6 from 2014 as a backup temporary substitute (it still works for calls and texts except that Apple stop updating after 5 years). I decided that I've spent all the apple dollars that I'm going dish out for now since I just got the new 16 inch M1 macbook pro, plus the M1 ipad pro 11. I got this iphone SE3 from metro by tmobile for $80 American dollars by simply Porting my number over and the service on phone is $50! Trust me when I tell you that I'm very happy now! $80 American dollars, it's well worth it for me!!!!
Ohh okay that makes sense. Buying that phone to complete your apple echosystem. When you need your bigger screen to watch Netflix or multimedia content you have your ipad. That makes total sense. I guess this phone totally fine for everyone whos smartphones are not their only multimedia fun device.
Generally yes but the A53 will be dead in a couple of years. The SE will just keep going. It all depends on what the customer needs. It's difficult to compare them apart from price point.
The bezels are only an issue if you are so used to the new phones. Once you start using it you get ised to it. Remember back then no one had a problem with iphone 7/8 design. So it’s not the design it’s the people getting ise to new things
Its good if your over 65 years old lol , the display is just ridiculous in 2022 , its from 2017 the huge bezels make it feel like a toy , Apple should have just turned the iPhone mini into the iPhone SE that would have made more sense
Daaaamn that mic on iPhone SE is bad, I thought they did not use the old crap iPhone 8 had O.o Since Xr they use good mics, but X/8 generation was unbearable.
Those type of reviewers are the main reason we now have a shovels instead of comfortable pocket communication devices, oh no the bezels, oh no tiny screen, nobody cares
I had the IPhone 12 Pro Max and have decided to upgrade to the IPhone SE 2022 just because I love the old style off phone which this guy is saying as a negative. For me the newer phones are too big and all look the same so wanted a nice simple phone that’s more affordable than paying silly prices to be like everyone else. Overall love the SE and having the home button and can fit it in my pockets better 😊
Of course they will. In fact, for you the good news is great; because the mini sold so poorly (I predict) we can expect to see it released at SE price and renamed the SE in about 2 years. For me this news is not so good as I just bought an SE, but I had no phone and one cannot go two years on an interim phone.
I needed to upgrade my old iphone 8, it was perfect for what i needed. So i choose the SE 2022 because i needed the same experience but renewed. The "flaws" like the old design and the fingerprint home button similar to the iphone 8 was what i actually was searching for.
exactly... plus no one on youtube seems to mention that some users have trouble with edge to edge displays. The bezels preclude most of their accidental touch inputs from happening and makes them happier to use the phone.
I’ve had one since day one and been using it as my daily the whole time I really like it. Maybe it’s the throwback look idk but it’s my favourite iPhone since the 4s
@@seanmacdonald86 about the same as the iPhone 12 mini I had before it, gets me thru an average day for me 4am to 10pm Ive also used a pixel 6 alot recently and would say the se has noticeably less battery life than it does
EVERYthing he mention in the first 5 minutes he said he didn't like about it is Whst Made me and my friends love it like the fingerscan and bars on bottom and top like I miss those soo much I can actually hold my phone again without touching the screen.
"...Whip out his knob and do his impression of a windmill" might be the greatest line I've ever heard in a review. 🤣 Standard for the Big Market to be fair.
To be honest I quite like the rectangular screen without unnecessary holes in the display. The island looks like there has been something dropped on the screen, so I prefer the old system.
Such an ugly phone. For the price you can get seriously good looking android phones. You have to be desperate to stay with Apple to stomach that phone.
If I was buying a Android Smartphone for £419 I would expect Amoled screen 120hz,a Snapdragon 7 series chipset or equivalent,6gb Ram 128 gb Storage, possible headphone jack, reasonable thin bezels, stereo speakers and more, why can't apple sell something similar at this price point.
I personally don’t mind the old design, In fact I kinda like it. I’m so used to that old fingerprint home button design and I don’t plan on upgrading to the high end iPhones anytime soon… Until I don’t have a choice because I know this is probably the last old design iPhone SE apple is making so I wanna take full advantage of it while I still can. I’m currently carrying an iPhone SE 2nd gen and I’m really thinking about getting this 3rd one… I know it’s a very small upgrade but my current phone has so many network and camera issues since I dropped it backwards and I don’t know if I dislodged or loosened something in the board but I tried every possible way to fix the problem and I’m basically paying for unlimited phone service for nothing. I’m currently using my Wi-Fi router for watching RU-vid and doing whatever I want.
I get that, but technology is about innovation, and if companies stop innovating, then the whole industry stops moving forward. Apple is giving people who pay less for phones a terrible experience, bearing in mind that even £400 is a lot of money...
I just made that upgrade today man (SE 2020 - SE 2022) Totally worth it. Chip is notably faster , slightly better battery and 5G. You get to keep the familiarity whilst being able to avail of 2022 capabilities. I’m delighted with my upgrade
@@aaravshah2288 the iPhone se 3 is definitely not a terrible experience. It is lightning fast, has 5G, and the best camera out of most budget smartphones. It also feels amazing in the hand and is quite light.
I would easily switched out any phone for even a older design, more like the 4s and 5s, because to me an iPhone is a phone with a home button and a small enough formfactor that will fit perfectly in one hand.
I bought this phone and haven't looked back, it's nice not having that iphone 13 brick in my pocket; admittedly I went back to the 13 a couple times, but I always miss the lightweight and easy to hold/handle SE. While I found this video informative, how many times are people going to knock it? Because it's getting old. The people who buy this phone are not playing PUBG or reading spreadsheets. I'm planning on getting another since you can't trust Apple will release a new device without screwing it up, already hearing rumors of a revamp, probably because they are equally tired of tech bloggers bashing the SE, for reasons IDK, these are the same people on the 60h bandwagon but said nothing about it even 2 years ago, now suddenly everything has to be 90 or 120.
It’s not expensive. It’s a fair price. This phone has top tier specs, a very good camera. In exchange you trade the design, screen, and worse battery life. With the A53 you trade in the performance for a fantastic display, battery life, and design. Personally I’d take the se, performance is important, especially as the phone ages.
@@googleisgod963 Or you could just get a Poco F3 or a Moto G100 or a Moto G200 with performance that's basically on par with Snapdragon 870 and 888+ processors for less money than the SE, with cameras that offer more versatility and are perfectly good cameras as well, and better displays. You're just looking at Samsung instead of other options with give you more for the price. It really isn't a fair price for what you're getting. Oh I forgot... They also have 90Hz and 144Hz displays too, for less money.
I'll generally never understand the bezel argument. People have brainwashed themselves into accepting a giant notch in their displays so much so that they're ok with a notch in their laptops. Unbelievable.
I actually like the notch on a iPhone . I now have the se and I don't mind the bezels . People can be so fussy . There is more important things in life to care about
Well people lets be clear, this is just an classic Iphone, maybe the last with touch id. My previous Iphone7 32 served me for 4,5 years without any problems, but few weeks ago was replaced by this new SE 128, works great and everything is familiar for me. By the way I never buy new Iphones only used 2-3 months etc...
No when people see those bezels they don’t care!!!! Honest it’s only the tech reviewers who care most people don’t know what software they are running, what chip is in their phone, how many pixels on their camera !!! Don’t believe me ? Question your friends and family about their phones!!!
Bought this phone for my wife because there are no small form factor Android alternatives. She's not a power user, only uses basic apps, calls and the occasional RU-vid video. She gets 2 days battery life, so no complaints.
this device doesn't make sense in 2022 isheeps will buy anything with an apple logo and apple is too good at marketing and now isheep are gonna come and bark around here lol
@@eggsandbacon247 hi ! I've been using iphone se 3 for a month now , ND I gotta say I love the design and overall feel of the phone . Touch id is great and overall experience is good , in initial days bezel did bother me as I use s20 fe 5g as my primary device , but now after a month I love se 3s design , compact , slim and sturdy .
Comparing it to all smartphones it is a bit lacking, especially in screen size and resolution/display. That being said, a lot of people get the iPhone to be in the ecosystem, and when compared to iphones it's pretty nice for those that want a small phone. If you want a small phone and a big screen, get the 12/13 mini. Small storage space has been common for apple as a way to make people pay more for it, unfortunately. Would be nice if they allowed an SD card for expandability.
It's honestly astonishing to me that they'd even approve it for production with such a bad battery life - I wouldn't accept that from a €250 phone, let alone one in this price range.
It's basically a iPhone 13 without the storage screen or new shape, it's not the worst buy. I been with Samsung last 8 years and before iPhone this year going back to iPhone as Samsung got way over priced. There specs are not what they say.
The battery life on the SE3 is fine if you are an average user. There are many reviews of the SE3 on RU-vid where they show it in use throughout a day and to the reviewers surprise the battery lasted for the full day. The LCD display is crisp, clean and the colours pop even compared to some of the lower end android phones that have an OLED. If you only do basic camera shots, the single camera is fine and there has been significant software added to enhance that experience. Video recording is very good at 4K. The phone has 5G and additional RAM as well. The area where I think they could have improved the phone was starting at 128gig of storage instead of 64gig and adding dark mode to the software update.
I don't know what you mean by average user, my daughter had a pixel 5 and I got her the SE3 because all her friends had iphones, she uses her phone for massaging, Instagram, and Snapchat. She goes to school at 8 am comes home at 1 pm that's 5 hours later and her phone is usually at 15 percent. That said she's not on her phone in class because I asked her teachers if she's on her phone and they have all told me no, her good grades are proof of their feedback. Back to the point she has definitely complained about the really poor battery life. She went back to the pixel phone. I ordered an iPhone 11 pro from eBay for $400 because I just don't believe an iPhone is worth the $800+ price tag. She's been using it for 3 days. She says the 11 pro is a huge upgrade, yet it's older and it's the same price.
Have seen iPhone SE 2022 (3rd gen) phones for as little as $329 online recently. MVNO 'Visible' had the deal for about a week, then it disappeared. MVNOs 'StraightTalk' and 'Simple Mobile' have it for $379. At prices like this who wouldn't purchase the SE 3?? 5G (sub6), Smart HDR, Deep Fusion, Neural Engine (AI), A15 Bionic, good battery life, etc. etc. I adore my 'Midnight'-colored iPhone SE 2022. It's the greatest value for money that Apple has ever created.
Its factually the worst battery life and the worst screen in the midrange market today. Stop defending crap for no other reason except its made by apple.
You can have a nice ips display... if there are smalls bezels and fast refresh rate, that's what you look for in a laptop, so why not a phone ? THIS display though.... F tier
@@negig2161 They are playing with the price ladder i believe it is called. Apple only does manipulation, this manufactured waste of a product is only here to bait you into buying something more expensive from them.
Okay let me say a few things. First, I love this phone. I have the red one and it has 256 GB of storage and that's been plenty for me. Second, I love the home button. I don't know why they removed the home button on the newer models, but I love the home button so much that I don't want to part with it. This is how I take screen shots and close programs. It's second nature to me. Third, many people knock the phone because of the smaller screen due to the black bevels on top and bottom. I don't care if this looks outdated or not, I don't care if the screen doesn't take up the full size of the phone, the only thing I care about is that I have my home button. I would personally choose the iphone SE over the new iphone 13 pro max, why? Because of the home button. That is just personal preference, but this phone fits me. I wouldn't call it the worst phone of 2022, but its actually my top pick for a phone in 2022. So you can knock this phone all you want, but I love it. There are a few thing apple could do however. Yes, an SD card slot would improve the phone and an easy way to change and replace the battery would also help.
You can't be serious. You bought a 256gig model of this hot pile of garbage? You should've bought the 13 mini 128gb. Even the 12 mini is miles better than this crap fest
If like me you are someone who likes to have Options and Choices with their Devices.... Then steer clear of anything with the Apple Brand, because it's all overly expensive shit.
for christ sake!! the phone is 4 years old and didn't warrant an initial review, now you are bringing out a 'one month later'!!! Chris - you are better than this
Not an accurate review, I have this phone and it's just as good as the more expensive iphone's out there, in my view get this iphone SE its is really gid
Had the SE for six months now, completely agree with all points made by Christ - just avoid it. Even as an Apple die hard. The battery is awful even at 95% plus capacity and the standard storage will run out after 2 months of light use. Camera is also wank in comparison to even a iPhone X.
I have the moto e ( 2020 ). I almost got the SE 2nd gen over the 11. I am less then 2 weeks with the iPhone 11 brand new for $300. First time with an iPhone. I’d like to get the 14, but I’ll wait till say 3rd or 4th year it’s out. Might be 400 or 350.?
I know this'll be inconsequential, and I'm always one for "too soon" humor (big Norm fan), but that Johnny Depp comment was just not only not funny, but not necessary for the review. I don't watch you for your humor, rather for your tech reviews. Or I did. Unsubbed.
I actually miss those big bezels, I liked having more places to grip from without accidentally touching the screen, but also for tempered glass protectors with cute designs on the bezel areas xD
"The battery life is pants. ...big floppy pants with skid marks permanently ingrained in the inner lining!" Lmao! I'm American and suddenly realized that "pants" in Britain refers to something bad and are actually underwear. 😀 Anyway, helpful review. I'm gathering specs on reasonably prices iPhones for a family member who has never used a smart phone. Thank you! I'll check out the iPhone 13 mini.
I have a se 2020 and it was fine for the past almost 2 years but i can't even get to 12am without my phone dying, the battery has gotten so bad I need a new phone asap
Those classic looking small iphones is the reason why i stay to apple. I prefer touch-id over face-id and bezels where i rest my fingers without touch any content on display. My only complain is their pathetic battery.
Ffs it’s an iPhone. They are all the same barring battery life and the quality of the camera. To be fair the people that buy these phones aren’t bothered about bezels and not interested in spending gaming laptop money on a phone.
