LET ME KNOW IF THOSE LINKS STOP WORKING!!!
While replacing an iPhone battery is not the most easy thing in the world... it is still very possible. With a simple pentalobe screwdriver (linked above) and a little know-how the whole project can be done in about 30 minutes. You want to go slow and make sure not to damage any components.
If your phone is not holding a charge for very long, or if the phone will drop from 50% to 0% battery life without notice, than a new battery will probably fix your issue. Replacing the battery does not erase your personal information if everything is done correctly.
The biggest things to watch out for are the iphone screen ribbon cables. Make sure not the bend or flex them in any unnatural way. They are very fragile. Also, the battery needs to be handled with care. Do not bend, flex, or puncture the battery at all.
Good luck! Leave any questions you have in the comments below. And please subscribe if you found this video interesting.

Thanks I successfully replaced my iPh5SE battery watching this! I used this video as my primary reference. Took me three hours. Technical for me is changing the oil in my truck. Never opened an Apple product before. Used the $10 eBay kit. 1. One thing, the plastic pry tool I had sucked. I had to use a box cutter...carefully. That took 40 minutes to do it right. 2. Pulling out the adhesive battery strips SUUUUCKED. One broke. I had to go to two other videos where one guy heated the iPhone with a hair dryer. I also placed the phone atop a bag of microwaved rice in a ziplock bag. Then I used fishing line to 'scissor' underneath the warmed battery/case until it came free. That was a pain in the ASS. So like this guy says, don't break those. 3. This video is shot really well. In real life those screws and such are SMALL. Make sure you have a good surface and at least the tools shown. You don't want to be pfaffing around dropping screws like a crackhead. You'll never find them. 4. There's a lot of videos but, this guy did everything right and in the right order. My phone charged right up. Freaked at first because the phone didn't turn on but, the battery was shipped totally de-energized to Alaska.

Very helpful video. Removing the battery adhesive is definitely the hardest part. I had to heat the case and battery a few times and pry quite hard with a plastic knife to get the battery out. It does bend the battery a bit, but no worries if not bending it over double! It is good to test the connection by powering up before screwing things in place. The first tow tries, my screen showed lines, so I knew it wasn't right. Third time was a charm. Thanks!

Three minutes? It took me two hours! But I would have never got it done without the help of this wonderful video - short but complete. There are warnings there - the sticky stuff breaks easily and it's devilishly hard to get a grip on the broken ends - when reassembling, it's very difficult to align the connectors properly before pushing them home - those microscopic screws are a pain to pick up and put in place - on removal, the spring clip covering the finger-print-scanner cable connector can, well, spring, an amazing distance, and be hard to find - and on reassembly it took me an exasperating ten minutes to align it before pushing it home. Take my advice - keep cool and be patient - you'll be amazed when the reassembled phone works perfectly first time (once you have given the new battery a bit of a charge).

Video is very precise, would be nice if it showed the replacement tape- the one I bought did not have instructions and I ended up putting it in the wrong side. SUGGESTION. If you have smaller fingers I would suggest cutting the black pull tab so that each strip of tape is separate. you will be less likely to break the tape if you do one at a time.

Thanks for the clear instructions. The only glitch I ran into was I had apparently not fully seated the first of the three screen connectors. However, I was somewhat prepared for this because I turned the phone on before moving on to the other final steps and closing it up. When the apple logo failed to appear I knew something was amiss and then I reattached the screen connectors. Got it seated and thankfully working again.

Great explanation! Easy to follow instructions. First, I watched the video twice all the way through then I followed installation of battery but I paused when needed to do the work and continued on as instructions progressed. I would recommended you have someone help hold the phone during this process. I used the tool kit I bought from your site but also had to use another phone tool kit I had from previous phone. It all came together on the first attempt and my phone is on and working great. Thank you!

I've heard stories recently about how Apple is now serializing their batteries to match a code in the phone, and it will restrict functionality if it detects it has had a new battery installed that was not done by an Apple certified repair facility. I haven't heard this necessarily applies to the First Gen SE, but for the newer models of iPhone.

thats absolutely no problem. there is really no point in removing the screen assembly. i have no idea why he sends people through that hassle, as it is extremly difficult for the regular user without proper equipment, to keep the screen connectors as clean as they need to be. then they will be stuck with stripes on their screen, because they do not know about isopropyl alcohol and what is causing the behavior. just be gentle with the screen. it allows for quite a bit of movement without breaking anything.
@Cooldrums777
@Cooldrums777 3 года назад
@@miko007 Now that I replaced the battery as was shown in the video I have come to the conclusion that you are correct. There is no reason to remove the screen. just open the screen up to 90 degrees and have someone hold it there while you remove and replace the battery. Obviously the battery cable and fingerprint sensor cable still need to be removed. If nobody is available to hold the screen you will need to prop it up against something to hold it in place while you struggle to peel out the old battery.

Followed the video instructions..... The phone would not come apart even with the tool provided and suction cup. Had to use a craft knife blade. got the ribbon tabs off ok. Then came the battery...The sticky tape broke immediately. Had to destroy the old battery to get it out. fit new battery. Connected the ribbon tabs (What a palaver) Eventually got it all back together and was surprised to find the phone actually worked. Took 1 hour. Now to see if there is any improvement in the charge hold.

Getting the battery to release as demonstrated was impossible. Prying up the battery as shown did not work either. I know this was risky, but using pliers to extract the battery was the only way and even this was difficult. After removing the battery I placed it on the concrete floor where it started to smoke then went up in flames. No worries, I got it done, in spite of the battery exploding.

This video is good. It's has all the right steps and tools, and the explanation is accurate. That said, the repair process is brutal. For instance, the adhesive he mentions is a complete nightmare; the video doesn't do it justice. I ended up having to remove the battery with brute force, which was rather dangerous. Also, the tiny screws and ribbon cables are uncooperative and cumbersome to attach. Considering that replacing your battery may not solve your problem (for me, it didn't), viewers may want to consider if the juice is worth the squeeze before starting any maintenance.

What type of EVIL ADHESIVE is that "sticky-stuff" that becomes NOT STICKY as it's pulled from beneath the battery? I have to give Apple credit. I've been using my 11-year-old DELL MINI 1012 laptop with few problems since I bought it new in 2009 and I was becoming "cocky" about my repair ability due to this success. NO MORE! I learned from my attempted repair that some things should be left to experts. The Legos metaphor is so wrong and unfortunate. With the cable connectors, you get one or two attempts before the connection gets damaged or wears out. That's what happened to me with two or three of the connectors and I ruined my phone. Also, most of the screws are about the size of the tip of a ballpoint pen. Maybe it's because I have big hands, but some of the connectors were very difficult and impossible to get back on and the screws were impossible to get back in. But that was a moot point since the phone was already ruined. Paying Apple to replace the battery would have saved me over $200 and a lot of stress.

Now if that happens to you, get a top E string for a guitar and get it under the battery, pulling it back and forth as you work your way along the battery, like a lumberjack’s saw. There is a fundamental piece of information missing which on ifixit is in large letters, the 4 screws on the display are all with different lengths (tenths of a millimetre) ) and if the exact position is not respected the logic board will break. Here he took them off and put them back on without underlining this aspect, you have to note the position or possibly have some luck that I didn't have.

Thanks, $10 fix and it took me 20 minutes. However, I believe I damaged my volume up and down connection by being too rough with battery removal. Listen to the video closely and be careful when removing the battery!!!

- spent 2 plus hours. Screwing up the sticky stuff added 30 minutes. Using a blow dryer to heat up (carefully) the glue was the key.

The volume controller ribbon can get damaged as the port tool is used to open the case - I know this the hard way! So check on the video exactly where the ribbons are first.

When putting in the replacement battery, is adhesive really necessary? It seems like the batter has no where to go...

Very simple, short, easy to understand video. Replaced my battery, took a little while but it was successful. If you can pull out the powerstrip its probably no need to disconnect the top 3 connections. Thanks for sharing.

Please help me! I pulled very hard on the suction cup because I couldn't get the screen out and it made the screen crack! Is there any chance I can still get it out without further damaging it?

It worked! Took me like an hour and a half because the adhesive ripped (my advice is actually not to be *too* careful with it...it tore less when I was a little more forceful with pulling on it), but it was actually a simple process. Thanks so much, man. Saved hundreds.

yep you need to keep pulling and pull from the bottom of adhesive. keep the tension on it. saving money doing diy phone repairs is fun!

Actually it didn't take him 3 minutes. The video runs about 3 minutes because he (wisely) left out the tedious parts. I get really irritated when tutorials show me the unscrewing and re-screwing of every screw in real time.

What will happen if u don’t disconnect screen! Just seems easier just leave the screen connected & put the new battery in

I like your thinking, yet you won't be able to unscrew the plate that covers the three ribbons that connect the screen to the board. 0:49

I've managed to do this on my SE but after I replaced the battery, the screen keeps flashing while booting, for some reason this problem keeps draining the battery very fast and I don't know what the cause of that might be...

I think some of the screws that hold the screen connector shield are longer and must be put back where they came from. You can damage the logic board if you put them in the wrong place. I think the two longer ones go in the two holes toward the top of the shield.

Thank you so much for posting this. I changed my battery and charge port using 2 of your videos. My glue strips both snapped and in the end I heated up the phone on a hot water bottle and was able to lift the battery up just enough to get the strips with tweezers. Not an easy job. Also just to mention the 6 screws which hold the 2 metal plates are all different lengths from 1.2mm to 1.7mm so take care!! Thanks again.

Thank you so much for this video. I’m going to try it out very soon. My phone cost too much to just throw away for a battery problem after three years use. I got a battery for NZ$18 with basic tools. The newer iPhones are much too big for my wee hands. I really love this phone, but it’s become virtually unusable unless plugged in every hour or so to charge. Wish me luck.

Sir, I am having Google pixel 3 xl phone. It stoped working due motherboard failure. Google authorised service centre in India is asking 350 dollars for motherboard replacement. Its too much costly for me. I have seen this motherboard on ebay for 50 dollars. Plus around 50 dollars other expenses to bring it to india. If I buy that motherboard from ebay will it solve my problem. What will be your advise on this.. ? Please guide.. !! 🙏🙏

I see these replacement batteries for under $10.00 on ebay, but apparently you need specific tools to do it correctly and you'd better do it correctly. I would feel unconfortable doing it, even IF I owned the correct tools.The question is, "How much will an Apple store charge to replace it".

My adhesive was cemented onto the phone, making a huge mess prying the old battery out. I ended up using pliers to force it out. It kinked, bent, was punctured and I'm hoping I don't get Lithium-Ion cancer in the near future from doing this... But?? I now have a brand new battery, hopefully giving me another 6 years with this phone... Thanks....................
