That was my Dalek, 2001 Space Clpper and Aries ib on the IPMS Farnborough table at 13:06 and my Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea flying sub at 7:26 on the Movies and TV SIG table - we won the silver prize for the best SIG table mainly I reckon because of the superb 2001 EVA Pod and the Aston Martin SB5!!! I love SMW, this was my 10th anniversary of attending but didn't win anything in the competition this year. Glad you enjoyed the show

Hello Wayne, great video mate, there are some fantastic models there but the one that blew my mind was the Dambuster Lancaster dropping the Upkeep mine, and the water was phenomenal at 5.50, Lee.

Hi Wayne, regarding the judging, it takes several hours for all the entrants to enter their models (lots of entries for abroad). Then the judging starts…it is generally judged from past winners and if you are judging upwards of 50 models in a category then it’s going to take time. Having judged the 1/48 detailed class in the past for 10 years, you are under extreme pressure to be fair, open and transparent to every model entered…let alone being done in a timely manner. There really is no other way to judge because in the evening we are all socialising with friends from around the world. Also you have to remember that some of the models entered have taken years to build so to rush judging would be very unfair. The best way is to have a good look on the Sunday morning….because a weekend visit is really the only way to get everything in….we’ll almost.

Wish we had shows like this in the states . I know there is one but there should be more .

Excellent job of videotaping the show. You pan your shots nice and slow. Numerous other people at the show pan around model to model and you don't get toes the model and they are moving to the next. So thank you for the great work. Really enjoyed watching.

Great video Wayne. I was at a small show this past weekend in my hometown. It was mostly figures with a smattering of sci-fi and military. I was blown away! Thanks for sharing. 😎🇨🇦

The stand with K.I.T.T, Reliant, Enterprise and Razor Quest is from my IPMS club I belong to in Brighton, they're also my friends builds. We usually attend Telford but couldn't make it this year.

there are some pretty awesome models there

I went on Sunday, last time I visited was 2016. In 2016 it took an hour to get to the car park from joining the back of the queue, this year, drove straight in. There were no queue's to speak of, the number of traders was down probably 30% and the number of people there down by probably 50%. From that point of view, it was disappointing, but the standard of models and display were definitely better. The number of entries in the competition classes were also down. I entered a ship and there were at least 25 in the same class back then, this year I don't think there were even 20 ships entered. It was still worth it though, if you get a chance to go - GO!

The pod from 2001 was amazing - I have a 1 meter long Discovery from 2001 that I 3d printed several years ago. Will have to see if I can find the files to print the pod now. Looks like it was a great show - thanks for sharing the video Wayne.

I'm primarily an aircraft modeller, but as soon as I saw the monoshawan on the cozmic stand 😍 😍😍 (I went with the smaller one, as I think it is time to expand my skill set 😁)

That was a cool,presentation Wayne! Really nice clear camera work! Everything can be seen in fantastic detail! I always wish that I could go, but year on year I’m marooned at home- not marooned exactly, somethings always crop up or other circumstances prevent me from going! Also not having transport is a massive detriment! Oh well I can watch the videos and posts! Wish I was going to Airfix next week! Very Best!

Hey Wayne. So good of you to take the time to go and film that event. Even I was just amazed at the time and the attention to detail each one of the displays. As you know I was in the U.S Marine Corps and can really appreciate the military models. Also am a HUGE Starwars fan and enjoyed that as well. Thank you SO much Wayne I really appreciate that show.

Nice video Wayne! But if you think about it, it's pretty simple and logical why they don't let anyone into the competition area until the judging is finished. Firstly, how could the judges do their jobs properly with the public milling around (trust me with the crowds it's hard enough just to get a glimpse at some entries). Secondly, there's a shit ton of entries that they have to judge and even with multiple teams of judges covering all the classes it takes time just to look at the entries let alone come to a consensus decision if there's any disagreements. Lastly, they announce the winners on the Saturday as not every competitor will be there for both days and traditionally Saturday is the main day. At least that's my take on the matter.

The X Wing diorama must be based on Star Wars, as they had different markings (I think) in Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi didn't have any hangar scenes at all.

Was that Vulcan the one that was underwater in Thunderball? It looks like it's resting on a seabed.

Scale ModelWorld is a two-day event (plus build/set-up on the Friday, when it is not "open for business") : The Competition is just one aspect of the event - but this year consisted of well over 100 classes and had somewhere in the region of 1400 entries from literally all over the world, I understand. Models for the Competition may be entered from late Friday afternoon and then from 9am on the Saturday morning, until 11.30am, to give competitors (especially those travelling long distances or from abroad) as much time as possible to arrive with their entries. During this time on the Saturday morning, the Competition Area *IS* open to the public for viewing. The Competition Area then closes to everyone except the judges, from 11.45 to 15.00, for the judging process. With tens of thousands of attendees to the show, it would be almost impossible for the judges to do their work with SO many people milling about the competition tables, probably take longer and potentially risk damage to the models. So it's much more efficient to close off the Competition Area for as short a time as practical to do this. There's no other time it could be done. The Competition Area re-opens for general viewing at about 3pm Saturday, until the show closes at 6pm . It is then open for viewing all day on the Sunday - models must be left on display both days and not removed until about 3pm on the Sunday. During this time, the awards/commendations/winners/etc. are then displayed with the appropriate models, so that everyone can also see who/what has won, prior to the official "awards presentation ceremony", which is also held on the Sunday.

They used to let you in before they started judging years ago ,really annoying when you have traveled mile to have to miss the competition area.

I'm curious about the Dambuster diorama. 1. The Lancaster has visible windows which they didn't have. 2. There are no squadron markings which it /did/ have. 3. It's flying over water but the explosion is /behind/, which makes no sense as the bomb (which can be seen) bounced on the dam's water so the aircraft is facing the wrong way and the dam is behind it. (It's not the bomb splash as the water is above the Lancaster so it's a huge under water explosion. 4. Each aircraft was told to wait until the water had settled between each bomb before making their run so the choppy water is wrong. Don't get me wrong the model is a great one and very skilled, but the modeller hasn't thought the composition through properly.

FWIW. MY Dad introduced me to Airfix in '59. I was 4. he guided me to paint black, the spikey exhausts on The Sunderland... We actually got the bomb racks sliding out! Happy Days! Been to Telford twice, Amazing experience, if only to be surrounded by hundreds of other 'Modellers' who are on the same page! [Edit: Your Camera work is Superb! Just the pan right speed, exposure spot on !]

Where do I look to find out when these sorts of shows are on? I always seem to find out about them when they are over. 😭
