The Brighton hotel bombing was a Provisional Irish Republican Army assassination attempt against the top tier of the British government that occurred on 12 October 1984 at the Grand Brighton Hotel in Brighton, England, United Kingdom
Thatcher sought to foster a political image of strength and steadfastness and she did so by dealing with issues such as the troubles in an uncompromising manner that emphasised her personal strength, even though it deepened division, inflamed sectarian hatred and cost lives. She chose to make political capital from her policies on Northern Ireland to win votes, knowing that a political solution, not a military solution, was the only way forward. Magee killed people directly, whilst Thatcher indirectly had blood on her hands from the troubles. As she also did with the strikes in the eighties and the devastation of the manufacturing industry. One of the finest things I've witnessed was thatcher crying after her cabinet told her to f#ck off, as it dawned on her that her Tory sycophants didn't love her, rather they loved being in power and that she was now an irrelevant liability.
Biggest travesty was not killing her..she also said she wouldn't negotiate with the ira..she fucking did..because as soon as the hunger strikes stopped..she gave in to the prisoners apart from the wording...that bitch decimated communities in England and Wales.. promising to keep mines open if they were making money..then shut them for spite...ive just watched once upon a time in northern ireland..totally changed my view if the troubles..it was all the uk goverments fault...all down originally not giving votes to catholics ...shocking
Why waste your life hating someone because they don't agree with your beliefs. Come to Jesus Christ for HE alone is the only way the only truth and the only life John 3:3 John 3:16
Probably did escalate the violence in Ulster but you only have to travel around the industrial areas of Scotland and the north of England to see the legacy of Thatcher. Nearly 40 years have passed and these areas are still wastelands with all the social problems which long term unemployment brings!! Black day when she survived.

An old person i used to know once told me 'I dont support the IRA or terrorism, but the best thing they did was target thatcher, the worst thing they did was not succeed in killing her'
Funny how Irishmen enter England to take the war to them their evil , while British soldiers and paratroopers entering Ireland are there to to help PSNI/ RUC uphold law and order, don’t make me laugh
I remember my dad, who was sadly well used to anti Irish racism in England at that time, saying about the days after that bomb being particularly hostile for the fact Thatcher hadn't been killed.
There's not an Irish problem just an English problem we give thanks to the Irish Republic army that have the guts to stand up and fight for Ireland,,, those that have lost their lives may they never be forgotten,,,,,,, for the love ❤️ of Ireland 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪,

@@desmondhull5778As against every Colony England ever left, divide and concur. Look at the Middle East right now. The English upper class establishment is rotten to its core and the ignorant sheep that support us are as much to blame!
They didn't fight for Ireland at all. Real soldiers fight against other Soldiers who can fight back. The Irish Republican Army planted bombs that killed innocent people, shot dead people who couldn't fight back, and hit themselves. In other words they were GUTLESS COWARDS. You are likely an attention seeking troll, but if you actually support weak shit like that, then I hope you never ever have kids. God help them if you do.
Secret talks were also being conducted whilst Thatcher was in office. They stopped and a started a few times but they did occur - throughout her term in office.
As a Scottish nationalist Rangers supporter who had a low key Christian upbringing in the Church of Scotland, the reformed church, I was in no way bothered by the attack on Thatcher & her government. Not a nice view for sure, not very Christian but then I don't subscribed to the fantastical claims of the Abrahamic faiths. However, when our service personnel were killed I found it painful. Especially the three young Scottish soldiers in the hills of Antrim & the truly despicable murders of corporal's Derek Wood & David Howes on the 19th of March 1988. Such are, I suppose, the contradictions & perhaps, the hypocrisy of us human beings. However, that is just my outlook. I truly wish all Irish people of all persuasions & identity, the best of success, peace & happiness, they surely deserve it.
Brother against brother that's what it's all over about It's the Establishment who keep the war going.Feeding both sides of the conflict information to kill each other Also they allowed their own agent's to kill innocent people
There is not one speck of me that has any sympathy for two members of the Force Research Unit driving their car into a funeral cortege then getting their comeuppance from the locals. If they hadn't been there they'd still be alive. Same goes for every other British Soldier. Karma.
@@facta-non-verba I am not talking about 1600s 1700s. It's obvious the the politicians in London don't care about the scottish therefore I don't understand Scottish unionists. Is é sin mo thuairim.
All horrible deaths. All equally tragic. The entire conflict was an awful waste of life on all sides. Everything could have sorted if people had been open to negotiation. The unionist statelet first of all should have listened to the civil rights marchers. The IRA should have listened to NICRA. The British gov could have acted much sooner. So much wasted for lack of talking. So sad. Anwyay, I as an Irish man wish you Scots the best on your own journey as well.
My father passed away recently, he knew Pat Magee personally. He was in the business and didn't share the stories much but he said of Pat that it took him a long time to accept him as he came from a different area of Belfast and my father couldn't work out why he wouldn't sign up with his local unit. I always found it funny because my da tried not to let him in lol
How can anybody have sympathy for the thatcher and tebbitt etc who systematically targeted working class people and thatcher who let 10 Irish prisoners of war die on hunger strike. So shed no tears because they are not worth it pity it wipe them out.
Why did he have to touch the paper when he signed in? Surely, it's not that difficult to avoid doing so. He could have used his finger nail to move the slip if he had to manipulate it or to push it back to the reception staff. Having put so much effort into planning and implementing the attack, it was pretty amateurish to leave prints behind like that when he knew he had a record.

IRA members’ voices were dubbed on British television all through the 1980s until 1994 as a result of legislation preventing the promotion of the IRA’s ideas. This was repealed after the peace process. I am not certain when this was filmed, as it seems to be after that, so I am not sure why it would be dubbed here.

Valid point, bloody Sunday should have been properly investigated at the time -many in the British Govt knew it should have been. It was an outrage that eventually led to a proper inquiry. There is still no need or excuse for murder by any against any. John Hume -a hero of the peace process- was the first to realise and champion that point. Nationalism is a perfectly legitimate cause but not one that requires murder. It leads to martyrdom. The UK govt should have realised that in 1916 -constitutional nationalism was winning progress to independence- The 1916 rebels should have been tried in court for murdering their fellow irishmen rather than just shot by firing squad.
