I hope SRF remains as good a series as it always has been and doesn't attract all the T1L1 Warriors. It's always been a great group with mature respectful racing (well, for the most part. There are always Those Days)
I honestly don't get the nostalgia for an H pattern shifter. Were people nostalgic for double clutching when syncromesh was introduced? Were they nostalgic for manually changing timing and mixture when those got eliminated? It's called progress. Sequential with auto blip is faster and simpler. That's a good thing.
I can appreciate why people liked it, but as a nooby, not so great driver, I had a really hard time driving this car. If this update means more enjoyable races then I'm personally glad.
Matt have you got like a base setup you have found for this car? Its my 2nd ever non mazda race and I just find understeer everywhere on the base setting before. Never tweaked with setups before. loving all the content, keep it up!
The baseline default is perfectly fine, I've just lowered the ride heights to the minimum allowed, softer front ARB and stiffer rear ARB by one each over baseline.
The good news on that front is iRacing actually worked with some guys who drive them and they had (supposedly - I mean they are always going to say it) much better reaction to where this ended up.
Need to try it again but pre patch it was horrible to drive. Next you’ll be saying that the best car in the sim has been ruined by making it less stupid…Radical.
I'll put an F in the chat for the old car, though I never got into it myself. With its wayward behaviour and my lack of skill at manual-with-clutch downshifting I was too scared to ever try racing it. But I really like the new car's relative stability, and it's given me more confidence to try and see if I can finally get a few races in.
Honestly, it makes sense that iRacing would be quick to make low level cars sequential when the real life cars converted. Most new drivers have never driven an H-pattern car and many never will. I'd bet most used paddles and auto-clutch on the manual cars anyway. The only ones who drive them properly are us old farts who are nostalgic for them, and a few younger guys who know what's up. Unless iRacing decides to bring more vintage series into the service, I think we are seeing the last days of rowing our own gears. Personally, I'd love to see Group C prototypes and late 60's/early 70's Trans Am, but I'm not going to hold my breath.
My 1st race on iracing out of rookies was in the spec racer, ahhh I remember it well, Watkins Glen, no qually, no practice, starting from the back, green light, go!, peel out in 1st, shift up to second, a few more revs and I'll shift into 3rd, Kapow! Blew the engine before the 1st corner. I've loved that little car ever since. I too have mixed feelings about the update, if this car had just come out like the vee, I would love it immediately but being an update I admit I kinda miss the quirks of the old one.
iRacing is too expensive for me, but I've always loved your channel and videos. You are a great ambassador for sim racing and provide a ton of help to all of us. Thanks brother
I really loved the last version of iRacing's SRF2, and I really love a lot of the changes that are a part of the SRF3 like the sequential gearbox and the crazy new speeds, but I really don't like the way the new car handles. The Formula Vee doesn't really do it for me either because while it does have the handling, it's so slow that half the corners that were really fun in the SRF2 just don't exist in the Vee, which I find especially noticeable at Summit Point. I do really hope they bring the SRF2 back as a legacy car even if I have to pay them $5 for it because even just with the AI, I had a lot of fun with the car and I loved the way the lift off oversteer flowed through the corners.
