آمُل یک شهر توریستی در استان مازندران و مرکز شهرستان آمل است. آمل یکی از قدیمی‌ترین شهرهای ایران، قطب صنعت و صادرات استان مازندران، پایتخت پرتغال ایران، یکی از قدیمی‌ترین مراکز یک‌جانشینی جهان، از شهرهای مهم ترابری، کشاورزی، گردشگری، معدنی و صنعتی ایران و از مهم‌ترین شهرهای مرتبط به علم در تاریخ معروف به شهر تاریخ و فلسفه است. پیشینه شهر آمل به زمان آماردها بر می‌گردد و در تاریخ نوشتاری نیز، مانند شاهنامه آمل از مراکز مهم اتفاقات بوده‌است. آمل در زمان زیاریان، علویان پایتخت ایران و در زمان اشکانیان یکی از مراکز ایران بود و در زمان افریدون تا زمان بهرام گور نیز آمل تختگاه و پایتخت ربع مسکون است. این شهر به دو منطقه شهری تقسیم می‌شود. آمل یکی از پرجمعیت‌ترین شهرهای استان مازندران است. شهر آمل در کنار ارومیه و گنبد کاووس یکی از سه قطب والیبال ایران می‌باشد.
