as an iranian national with agnostic views. i wonder how different would the atmosphere be if there was no shiite islam in the region with such recognition. shortly before the revolution of Iran , prime minister shahpour Bakhtiar offered Khomeini to practice religion amongst people however to be separate from state power. before any decision was made France arranged for khomeinis return to iran which eventually meant being the head of the state. west always implied something that has echoed through generations. if we had separated religion and politics , we would have been a country like Italy where pope is respected and state has the ultimate power .
One good thing Iran is doing is conducting elections. We see so many faces as Heads of Government. US should not just go by words of Saudi's. It should accept any Country which respects people by holding elections democratically. Let Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, UAE, Syria, Kuwait. Just for oil should not blindly support the Arab World. US should adopt a strategy it respects people of respective Countries and not the regimes. Regimes Heads are only source for dealings but caring should be for the people of the Countries. Only democratically elected Nations is worth to be neighbors among themselves.
Egypt is a great power and Saudi Arabia is also a great power in middle east. I don't understand his definition of power but israel has no influence in the region. Israelis have a good army but it's only defensive and they have not a great ally in the region. Middle east is divided between Sunnis (friends of saudi arabia) and Shia (friends of iran). I see Turkey and Israel more as western countries that they don't want to deal with the other nations of middle east.

I have seen a lot of comments of hate and division between arabs and persians, i wonder i can se the day when you guys realize how stong you can be together. I love arab and persian culture, IREALLY DO!! Brothers from meadle east, feel proud of your culture and traditions, stay together and realize who is the real enemy, the enemy that is supporting the division between this beutyfull and great cultures (i know you know the name of this enemy). One thing Asher Susser forgot to mentin during his entire speech is the Kurds. The Kurds are a contradiction to the current Middle East Islamificatin where Nationalism, not Islam, is uniting the Kurds. The groups that fight ISIS may be muslims in faith, but they share a far more western values such as Liberalism, National Unity and Socialism. The YPG/YPJ who currently fights ISIS in Syria which in turn derives from the PKK in Turkey have their base in Socialism. The Peshmarga in Kurdistan Region which also fights ISIS in Iraq shares a more Liberal view on Nationhood. All in all, Kurds are the exception on this case which makes them far more interesting player in the Middle East than they have ever been.
