I was 13 when all of this was taking place and I remember it as if it happened yesterday. This was also the beginning of my lifelong interest in failed US foreign policy and Middle Eastern politics. Now, at 55, I've seen so much change yet much remains the same. That certainly includes the ongoing tensions, hatred and distrust between Iran and the United States.
If it was reported today: "Today in the news, Jimmy Carter has two scoops of chocolate chip mint fudge ice cream! Yummy! Next in the news Bobo the Panda gave birth to a baby panda.... This is only the 149th captive panda to be conceived on record! yaaaaaaaay!!!!
Cuba was criminals taking root, The mafia set up shop down there, Lucky was kicked out of the United States and snuck back in to Cuba. Our government was fighting criminal organizations.
It reminds me a bit of a ruler I had in my country(mexico), Porfirio Diaz, he held power for over 40 years and modernized the country during that time, but he was a dictator in the end, focusing reform and his money on the elite, rather than the people at large.
A huge mistake by Carter to allow the Shah into the USA. He was warned about it and the consequences for the embassy staff, but made a very poor/foolsih choice. He should have at least evacuated most of the embassy staff prior to allowing the Shah in the country.
You can't leave him there to killed By those sick mobs. Carter should Have backed the shah. Look at The trouble the mullahs have caused in the middle east over The last forty years.
@@Shah-of-the-Shinebox which reminds me, that raises a lot of suspicion, there are many people that believe that the Republicans negotiated with Iran to delay the release of the hostages, in order to ruin Jimmy Carter's image, so he would lose the election, which he eventually did.
ok, what's up with this old footage? Did someone influence abc to make us remember this, same with the movie argo, is the press setting the stage for an attack on iran?
amazing a bunch of university student took over an US embassy. Where were the Marines that supposed to be guarding the embassy? They should have deadly force to protect the staff at the embassy. It was unfortunate Pres Carter, decided to cut the military budget in '78. The military couldn't get the replacement parts that were needed for their aircraft or ground vehicles, due to lack of funding. The Iran hostage rescue failed, due to equipment failure and cause Carter not run for election.
I watched this video yesterday and today in the cinema one of the trailers was for a movie based on this and I was like WTF? Something must be in the planning, for sure.
Way too simplistic, I mean he was good in many respects, however you have to remember how he came to power, the USA and GB forced his father to abdicate, they then put Reza in power, at first he focused on his reforms, while being a very clear Ally of the US and GB, however as time passed he started to consolidate his power, he eventually abolished political parties and put a single party in place , the Rastakhiz Party, and then declared that anyone who opposed the monarchy or the party would
Be considered a traitor, and either exiled or put in jail, he was quite oppressive here, squashing any political opposition. The reforms were good no doubt but its not the whole story, he had almost absolute power , and was brutal with his people, not to mention the amount of money he spent on himself. still could be worse, but the way he centralized power , coupled with his secularism and overtly ambitious reforms destabilized the country
Mosadeg wasn’t democratically elected. The Iranian constitution gave the Shah the power to appoint and depose of PMs. Stop spreading nonsense. The backwards Iranians needed the authoritarian rule. I know the mullah regime is paying you to write that nonsense LOL.
My mom was an toddler when 🇮🇷 hating 🇺🇸 back in 1979 My Grandma was in her early 40s, my Uncle got married . so teach me about the history between 🇮🇷 vs 🇺🇸 during Jimmy Carter's Presidency
WHY ON EARTH did we not close the embassy in early 1979 when khommenei took over Total and gross misreading of the situation of thr Iran situation by the State department
Jimmy Carter is responsible for terrorism today! The Shah of Iran did not support terrorism, the only reason why Jimmy Carter conducted a revolution in Iran was because the Shah of Iran was gaining power and popularity amongst the political arena in the world and Jimmy felt America should be the only super power on the block. Will.... years forward today, terrorist exist because of the revolution in Iran, This is sad but the truth. I love America and love everything about America, however, Jimmy Carter really missed up here, and made things much, much worst for the world. Iran was a peaceful country when The Shah was in power with lots to offer to the world, especially with it's 2,500+ years of rich history and contribution to the world. Very sad to see how things ended up for Iran.
the US chose the monarchy over the revolution and will pay the price for the rest of their lives. but dang 4:00 says "islam" properly unlike people literally now

He wasn't. He was maintained in power against the will of the people by the US, who had deposed the previous (democratically elected) PM, Mohammed Mossadegh. The Iranian people were understandably pissed off about this, which is why they took those hostages when the US provided the (deeply hated) former Shah asylum. Reasonable reaction if you ask me.
