Isfahan in general is very artistic city which means it is a land to many many artists who create stuff. And Saida's house was not an exception. So we did a tour of her house and they explained me art they have in their house with his brother.

The French were actively updating Iran's culture and infrastructure to Western standards for hundreds of years, specially in the 19th century. They would have cultural and economic ambassadors stationed in Iran to train and educate the masses with respect to newly aquired technology/fashion/science/public service infrastructures/etc. So because these things all came from France for the first time, they are usually called by their French name. For instance, Tomatoes are called French plum in Iran, sofas are meuble, elevators are ascenseurs, the police used to be called gendarmerie for the longest time, ... and people started saying merci instead of sepas somewhere along the line. fun fact: In Iran for the longest time they used to refer to the whole of Europe as "Farang" (Franc) because in their view France was Europe.

Merci is still used :) Before the Revolution, French was used in aristocratic circles (same at the end of the Ottoman era). I have met many highly educated Turks in the last 10-15 years who could speak French brilliantly (even better than the younger French generations). Lebanon was a former French colony/settlement, so the French speaking community is still active, although Arabic is taking over gradually in that part of the world :)

Man, I wish I could visit Iran, they have so much of culture and history and the people there are like....WOW!!! There is one thing I don't get. We say Assalah Malaikum in my country Malaysia as well and we are not Arabs and Salaam is also Arabic, so it's confusing why one Arabic term is considered Arabic and the other is not ok. I really thought it was that in all Islamic majority places. Why "merci" because: The language is historically linked with the history of Iran, as France and Persia have been having diplomatic relations and alliances for 3 centuries, involving notably king Louis XIV and emperor Napoléon Ier.

@@converse201996 , not just for me -professional artist. Art is art and can never be a craft or some other hand work . Some of the last kings of Qajar dynasty and also Pahlavi kings sent many talented people abroad to learn science , art ,etc... so that they could come back and teach other Iranians. Most of them were sent to France, so when they came back, they had to use some of Science words because they were no equivalent in Persian for them or they simply used some |French words in their everyday dialogue because they were used to it for years. There might be another reasons for them to use French words so much that other people gradually learnt them and became part of their routine words. But the answer to the question why there are lots of French words we use is mainly this. I surprised so much when I started learning French and found out so many words that we use are actually French. I always thought they were Persian! French was a language that was commonly studied in many parts of the Middle East. Many elites in places like Egypt, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, and even sometimes Palestine learned French. Turkey, for example, has a French university in Istanbul - Galatasaray. Anyway, because French was considered an important language of elites and diplomats, it influenced the various languages and many French words ended up being used in every day speech whether you’re dealing with Iranians, Turks, Egyptians. In the case of the Egyptians, you also had some Greek and Italian thrown in, as well.so thats why merci is used in Farsi.

Azerbaijanis in Iran are Turks. They identify themselves as "Turks" and nothing else. Over the past millennium, the territory of today's “so-called” Iran was ruled by Turkic dynasties starting from the Ghaznavids, Seljuks, Timurids, Safavids, Nader Shah’s Afsharid dynasty, and ending with the Qajar’s. By the early 20th century, the Persian Pahlavi dynasty stole power from the Turks with the help of European powers, mainly Britain. Until that time there had never been a country called Iran. Since that day the Persian nationalists have been discriminating against Azerbaijani Turks and other minorities. Azerbaijani Turks in Iran are not a minority, but a majority. The Iranian current ayatollah mullah regime is systematically assimilating them. In most cases, the Persian neo-Nazis do not even recognize the Turkish identity of Azerbaijanis, calling them an Iranian fake "Azeri" minority just speaking Turkish or a hybrid mix of Iranians with Mongols. They openly insult the Turks, denying their ethnicity. This is the official state policy towards the Azerbaijani Turks in Iran. There are over 40 million Turks that live in Iran, but they don't even have the schools in Turkish language. The regime persecutes every Turk who demands a school or any other basic human right. The Persians are using the fanatical sect of Shia Islam to cover-up their ultra-nationalist pan-Farsist chauvinist agenda and oppress other ethnic groups. This ideology has nothing to do with the religion of Islam, but they call the state an Islamic republic. Iran is not an Islamic republic, but a Persian national kleptocracy. They actively promote the Persian neo-Nazi ideology of Aryan race supremacy. 🔻Just read the comments below and make sure everything I wrote is true.
