Here's the thing: It's of interest to know that the division of the Muslim into Shia and Sunni dates back to the death of the Prophet Muhammad, and the question of who was to take over the leadership of the Muslim nation. Sunni Muslims believe the position of Prophet should be elected from among those capable of the job. This is what was done upon the Death the Prophet Muhammad, and the Prophet Muhammad's close friend and advisor, Abu Bakr, became the first Caliph of the Islamic nation. Shia Muslims Muslims believe that leadership should have stayed within the Prophet's own family, among those specifically appointed by him, or among Imams appointed by God Himself. The Shia Muslims believe that following the Prophet Muhammad's death, leadership should have passed directly to his cousin/son-in-law, Ali bin Abu Talib. Throughout history, Shia Muslims have not recognized the authority of elected Muslim leaders, choosing instead to follow a line of Imams which they believe have been appointed by the Prophet Muhammad or God Himself. So, we have a war of ideologies within the larger ideology of Islam itself. Centuries of conflict have not resolved the issue. This can be seen as a micro example of the current war of western ideologies being fought against middle eastern ideologies. You can't wage war on an idea.

There are more than 70 sects in christanty but I didn't hear any catholic or orthodox christian word on these western media channels.... By using words like shia and Sunnis rather than Muslims they r trying to divide them.....

This war has demolished the entire forest areas in Iraq so this people should move on green revolution after the war ,I think Iraq need more than 10 Million trees and specially indigenous trees are so effective for rescue wildlife in this area

People should stop fighting. What's the point in killing each other? Bangladesh is also a Muslim-majority country but there are no such divisions among Muslims here and people of all religious groups live harmoniously. I hope there isn't any 'divide and rule' policy going on in Iraq, and the "ISIS" business. Each person has her/his share of responsibility for contributing to the peace of the world. It's not an easy task but it is the only one worth pursuing.
