The Iraqi American Union is a student organization on the Wayne State University and University of Michigan-Dearborn campuses in southeast Michigan. Every year, this organization hosts a scholarship gala where they have a group of volunteers perform traditional Iraqi dances. This diverse group includes Iraqis of all ethnicities and religions, including Arabs, Assyrians/Chaldeans, and Kurds. The 2022 performance included the Assyrian/Chaldean Bagiyeh/Sheikhani, the Chobi, and a variation of the Kurdish dabka.

The song that starts at 1:30 is an Assyrian song. The dance they do at that time is an Assyrian dance.

Not true at all. This song and dance are taken from the dance of the Arab tribes in the Arabian Peninsula, Iraq and Syria. There is no such thing as Assyrian dance or Assyrian music

How can people not see how connected the world's cultures are. The similarities between Irish step and other European dances, with dances of Arab/middle eastern cultures. I pity people who don't think this is amazing!!

There's an amazing joy and rhythm these dancers exhibit. The Iraqi people have suffered so much, yet they retain their faith and ancient cultural traditions. The young lead male dancer is especially talented in these dances.🙏🙏🙏

Oh man this is so cool. I've always thought of myself as really open minded, but in the end the only news I got about the middle-east was from western news outlets, and most of them were about conflict, and a lot of them were very antagonizing. Just seeing that people in these regions like to dance and have fun just like I do really changes my perspective.

I have been told I have some roots in the Middle East or North Africa region. I have been trying to find where exactly. So many countries came up but my results revealed I have some Iraqi roots and seeing this makes me absolutely in love with Iraqi culture! Response to user-ut3dy5jz6s: Hmm well actually I have cousins of Iraqi descent. And my skin is brown not black and no one has white skin either. We all just have different levels of melanin. Just to correct you Iraqis are human beings and all of humanity began and traces back to in sub-Saharan Africa so originally everyone is sub-Saharan African. But of course you do not know any of this because you are incredibly ignorant.

There's no band at this event. There's a dj playing all of these songs which is made up of different singers. The first song is by Juliana Jendo who's Assyrian and the language is Aramaic. The songs and dances after are in Arabic.
