STORYLINE:
The Iraqi and Syrian interior ministers met in Baghdad and signed a joint security agreement on Sunday.
The deal includes cooperation on topics like "combating drugs, controlling international borders, extraditing wanted persons, and combating organized crime and money laundering," said Iraqi Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari.
He made the remarks during a news conference with his Syrian counterpart, Muhammad Khaled al-Rahmoun.
Al-Rahmoun said there are still "hotspots" of the Islamic State group in the Syrian desert.
"Attacks are being carried out sponsored by some parties present on Syrian territory," he added.
Despite their defeat in Iraq in 2017 and in Syria in March 2019, the extremists sleeper cells are still active and have been carrying out deadly attacks against the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces and Syrian government forces.
