Ireland today! Superstorm Ashley brings 5-meter tsunami waves, residents shocked
Parts of the UK were hit by strong winds and heavy rain as Storm Ashley, the first named storm of the season, made landfall. Met Office meteorologist Dan Stroud said the very strong and violent winds, combined with high spring tides, could also produce very large waves.
It said power had been restored to more than 10,000 customers who lost power earlier in the day. The stormy conditions also meant some flights were affected. As of 7.45pm, 60 flights due to depart and land at Dublin airport on Sunday had been cancelled.
