I have to disagree here. I’m also Irish and I’ve also lived in many different countries including France, the US, UK etc. Ireland is safe… kinda. I’ve had more problems in Limerick, Tipperary and Dublin than I’ve had in Montpellier, London, Manchester etc. The danger in the other countries is mostly gang violence. You won’t get stabbed in those other European cities unless you’re in a gang. In Ireland, kids *will* cause trouble with random people if they feel like it. That’s why despite Ireland being incredibly safe on paper, it ranks very low on any metrics that measure how safe people *feel* which is actually an interesting measure. These people aren’t being irrationally cautious, and showing them the statistics won’t make them feel any safer. You may not get stabbed in Ireland but you will get punched, spat on, assaulted, mugged. The chances of these things happening to you in Ireland are just incredibly higher than any of the other countries I’ve lived in. It would be a stupid mistake to ignorantly walk around any street feeling safe because the statistics say that you won’t get murdered. The safety measures are skewed. They only take violent crimes into account. So sure, if you’re a gang member, then you’re unsafe in Manchester, London, Chicago etc. but if you’re an everyday normal law-abiding person, you’re actually safer than you would be in Ireland. If we’re talking assault rates, Ireland is ranked far worse than countries like Lithuania and Albania which have far higher murder rates. And Northern Ireland and Scotland pretty much top the list for the most random assaults. So yes very skewed, and it’s damn near impossible to figure out which statistics are actually accurate on something as broad as “crime” or “safety”. It’s like how the GDP measures that say that Ireland is the richest country in Europe are skewed. Ireland looks really nice on paper, but I recommend anyone to come visit and actually see how safe they feel walking around. Come to some of the towns and cities outside Dublin and see how apparently wealthy everyone is. It’ll be a very confusing experience.

Some kf Dublin is really nice, but you got to see some of the areas and backstreets, the garda dosent help with anything, there is no coun I to clean rubbish away or anything.

went to Waterford a couple weeks back now and 3 random chaps started pressing me, reachin in their pants whatever. had never seen em before so I started threatening them askin if they knew who I was and I just kept moving away and they stopped, never happened anywhere else😂😂
