I well remember Irene Spencer and her many struggles in Mexico, it was so sad. I was luck enough to get away at 15 years of age and knew I would never practice polygamy and never have. At 70 years of age now I am still happy with my one (1) wife.
That why as christian man I feel polygyny is sinful. There is verses on how a husband should his wife and its impossible for a christian man can treat his wife biblically in polygyny.
@@irishdivajeffries6668 even though abusing public aid helps to financially provide for polygamous families, it will never make up for the lack of time, attention and devotion that a man cannot possibly give. I grew up in the FLDS, and I saw the damage first hand.
Poverty , obedience when you disagree, child abuse, physical & emotional abuse of women sounds like hell to me. Sad that she could not take all of her children as 6 were left in hell
I grew up in a LDS church! My father was a child of polygamy. His dad had 13 wives and 119 kids. His mom was the 7 wife and escaped with all of her 14 children. That was in Utah. They all moved to Missouri and that’s were most of the family has stayed.
Jade Morgan praise God they got out of their Polygamy group! This is so tragic. 119 children. Those children grew up without a father in their lives because that man was too busy going from wife to wife, making babies and never having time to be a dad.😢
These guys, who require that women be virgins and faithful to them when they can have themselves so many wives and kids they do not take care of properly, have some guts. I think we women should start the true righteous paths of requiring that men be virgin, entirely faithful to us with the obligation of treating us properly till the end. Becasue unless men do this, we are really not going to marry them ... who wants to be abused, cheated upon with the risks of diseases and hiv or abandonned with no money to raise kids. That is really what is at stake.
The creator of the mormon religion actually was "told by God" that polygamy was righteous and was the key to getting into heaven shortly after being caught cheating on his wife with multiple women. In my opinion the guy who created used it a scapegoat and then isolated the children of this scapegoat in order to keep his problems going on for as long as he lived -and now we know even longer.
Some do it well. It's still painful to see your husband take another wife they all admit. However one branch only takes and many as he can provide for. The women only work of they want to not because they have to financially. Another branch he has no say in how many wives he has or who she is. She picks her husband ,and they are not allowed to marry until the 18. Even though I am against polygamy there are people who do it with some human decency.
@@3monsters014 Many polygamysts are actually only married to one woman legally, but the other "wives" rely on the state to fund their children. This leaves the tax payers funding polgamy. It's just not right for the children, either who are then raised in poverty.
Why has not there been any official Billie Jean crew to take over this B's with man destroying women and children brought into this nutty world so many more women!!!!!!!!
Irene you are so strong and a wonderful role model for your children and other Polygamous women who don’t think they can make it in the gentile world on their own with their children 💜🙏🏻💜👏🏼👏🏼
It’s important to point out that Old Testament polygamy was 1) not commanded and was always sinful 2) brought chaos and hurt to all involved. 3) was engaged in when men, who would ultimately become believers, were yet strangers to Grace. Still, God did and can work despite this dreadful sin.
Point three is not totally correct, David and Solomon were God-fearing to begin with and then gathered all those wives when the power went to their head (maybe not exactly what happened but basically) and their faith lives deteriorated because of the pagan wive’s influence. There are probably a couple others but those two are the most prominent
If you look at examples of family structure in the bible, the couples were the holy families with good endings. The polygamous arrangements were all cautionary tales with bad endings.
I can't recommend her book, "Shattered Dreams" enough. Her sister-wife also wrote a book, "The Favorite Wife" which gives an alternative view on Irene. (Spoiler: it's not pretty.) But Irene's book does a wonderful job handling the characters and you go on the journey with her - the hope, the slow building disappointment, the frustration, the struggles, the poverty, the confusion, the loneliness... But is ultimately a beautiful, emotional story that challenges you to question your own beliefs.
That's unfortunate that they both came out on the other side and rather than rallying together they were still bitter towards each other. I wonder what happened to the sister wives after Irene left and what were the repercussions towards them (maybe it's in the book).
I wondered that too. The first wife is usually the legal wife. Perhaps she still believed enough to want the divorce church sanctioned. She hadn't become Christian yet.
I read her book and her sister wifes' book... great works I tell yah, it really digs into the dirtiest ugliest truths that are present, i recommend them both :)
I think you are amazing, irene. you had an 'adventurous life', and that doesn't seem like saying enough. I am so happy for all of your peace and joy! :)
I understand you and agree I have felt that way before as well.... God is good I suppose we feel that way because we want to honor him in love and in truth but he knows thankfully his Mercy is wide and great
I find it horrific .. and those men are guily of all crimes : sex abuse, exploitation, abandonment, neglect, endangering their wife's life and health ... everything that would be contratry of the basic dicency and humanity.
@@carolewilson1311 .... I'm sorry to say don't take offense but the only word I can come back but that is the truth which is your comment is in total ignorance you do understand that we as humans are not robots right? Bad things happen in this world there will come a day and a time where each individual gets called and has a choice and shine even in the darkest situations some take The Road Less Traveled and some go on the wide one just saying food for thought that didn't make sense to you I don't know what to say God bless you
@@bbaucom2 You only have sex to become pregnant, so if you don't, you would probably have to do it more. But you were probably thinking about the fact that they aren't allowed to use protection, and that they might think she's using that, and punish her for something she can't control.
You are a great woman .... and these guys are criminals, ... and something should really be done to stop this madness... it is violation of women's rights and abuse of women by men in its worse form.... the religious kind ;...
polygamy was never banned from the mormon church. and their doctrine and covenants book contradicts itself. basically when lawmakers came into utah they had to make a choice, in which if you watch one of their films they are lying to some lawmakers. i think the film is called 'on the mountain tops'. they did this so they could keep their religion. had the lawmakers allowed it, they would still be practicing it. if you ask any mormon and they are really honest, they will say yes i want to have many wives. men are not monogamous, that is why they cheat more than women. there is a study of 87% of men cheating. but mormons believe in polygamy in the 5 different mormon sects. they just don't do it apart from the fundamentalists, so they can continue to preside over utah state. look into mormon history and you will see what i mean. just like joseph smith wasn't martyred, he carried a gun. no profit will take a gun to shoot someone else, he was killed by a mob of his followers because he was stealing their wives.
I am a faithful Mormon and I know many others who are very against and disgusted by polygamy. The reason we don't practice it anymore is because God needed them to do it for a while, and that it wasn't permanent. We definitely do not believe in polygamy anymore, and any break offs that do are not following what they should be.
To those Mormons who say fundamentalists aren't real Mormons, take a look at your 1886 revelation where God says even He cannot rescind plural marriage. Too bad for them they swallowed the whole Mormon thing in the first place, but the fundies are the truer Mormons.
This is not some far off world where this happening; it's happening in US and Canada. What can be done to stop this? Is there will? Praise the Lord she got free from this.
The TRUTH of Jesus’ unconditional care led you to FREEDOM ... not just physically but ultimately SPIRITUAL and emotional freedom. So beautiful it brings tears to my eyes. Lies have a short life... just feels long
What an amazing story. Jesus is sufficient! :) "I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain" Gal 2,21
well i dont think its a start, i dont actually believe there is god, i say there might be one, Maybe there's no god but an after life. I do feel there is something but I dont know what it is, maybe nobody knows. The rest are just believes made by people. But thats ok with me aslong as they keep it to themselves. And respect belives of other. bye :)
murciélago al rescate Varela this women isn’t talking about the LDS church she is referring to the FLDS. Completely separate religion and has absolutely nothing to do with the LDS church
If you want to know if the LDS church is true, read the Bible. Just read the gospels. See who the Bible says Jesus is. Read what Jesus said about himself. He is not "Lucifer's" brother. The Jesus of The Bible is so much more than the counterfeit Jesus of Mormonism.
