It is such a joy to hear you playing this, you make a Steinway sound like a Steinway should, so many of them have a dead sounding top E that sticks out like a cracked church bell, your's rings like all the other notes. Steinway needs no other Steinway artist but you.

Do some of these phrases in this piece evoke Russian folk music, especially beginning in measures 34 to 49 (also the chord progressions in measures 7-9) with regard to the harmonies? I'm assuming you're the best to answer these questions given what I've already learned from your videos. If Rachmaninoff had written this is 3/4 time I would group it in with Chopin's Polonaises. But then the Eastern Orthodox dances were mostly in 4/4 time, which is a difficult time signature to dance to. Does this piece evoke any Russian folk music?
Sorry David, somehow I read you with 11 month delay.. to answer your question, I think yes, they do, but not literally speaking but rather in a character and a certain imitation technique between voices, Rachmaninov was influenced by both folk songs and orthodox church singing and bells, and we find all of those influences in his music
