It would be easier if the tabs were out in the screen to each note, I’m hopeless at following videos but thanks for the video all the same from a struggling newbie
Hi Lisa. I started banjo two weeks ago. I have learned the first couple of tunes. Im a retired professional musician but I keep it up for fun. I love Irish music and would love to be able to play as good as you. I live near Mullingar which, as you know hosted the Flagh this year and there’s a great possibility they’ll host it next year, so I aiming to learn a few gigs and reels with your help. Keep up the good work.
Interested in the monthly subscription to OAIM, but worried about the ability to freely cancel my subscription. I’ve heard too many horror stories about people trying to cancel monthly subscriptions! Anyone have any experience with this?
Hi Alexandria, You can easily cancel the subscription in the My Profile section of the site. There is a 14 day trial, which is also cancelled in the same way if you don't wish to continue. We've been online for 11 years now and you can always contact us via email or telephone, info you will find on the site - www.oaim.ie
Lisa is a great musician and a great teacher but as well as tutoring in banjo she could tutor in stage presence and performance. She is an absolute master at that!
Hi Dylan, this is a lesson about triplets on the banjo and not designed to teach beginners to music how to read TAB. If you search again for "beginner banjo lesson" or "how to read TAB for banjo" you'll probably get what you're looking for :)
Hi Noel, This is ear music so I'd suggest following the tutor and listening to see if it matches what is being played in the vid. How long are you playing banjo?
Online Academy of Irish Music hiya, a banjo school started 1 week ago, but i missed the first class, this week was the 2nd week, but due to the sudden downpour of snow i couldnt make it this week either be uase the fog over the mountain was too severe, i couldnt see past my car bonnet, so i turned and came back home. getting on good with the banjo, my mom is better and needs less taking care off which allows me to get back into it.
You need a tenor. Any banjo will do to start off with but if you spend a few extra bucks on a good one you will improve faster, enjoy it more and it would have good sell on value if you give it up.
Any tenor will do. Are you thinking of buying one? Set up is important, so if you buy a cheap one I'd recommend getting your local luthier to set it up well.
@@onlineacademyofirishmusic Yes I'm looking for a good second hand one to see how I get on. I'll look into setting it up too thanks. Is it 17 frets or 19 I need?
I first heard this tune in the Butler Arms public bar in Waterville in about 1968! The tinkers were in town for the annual donkey derby on Reenroe strand.
@@lf6352 plectrum banjos have longer necks with about 22 frets like a five sting without the drone string, and tenor banjos have 19 frets or 17 short scale,
Yes I’m pretty sure it’s a plectrum banjo, I have a plectrum banjo and a tenor banjo, plectrum banjos are usually used for jazz music, and were very popular in the 20s, I have never seen someone playing Irish music on a plectrum banjo before, you can see that it looks far longer than usual
